Hi Márta,
Thanks for the copyediting in Hungarian name. I changed the "maiden name" to "birth name" because in Hungary that is the legal term now; also, I think if a woman keeps her name, she has no "maiden name", she has simply a name, just like men have. (When getting my first ID card I made sure that they'll include my name in the "name" field, not in the "maiden name" one, where all the other girls wrote their names. In their ID's the "name" field was left blank, which looked kind of odd…) – Alensha talk 16:48, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, Alensha, but while both "birth name" and "maiden name" are easily understandable in the English-speaking world, the use of "maiden name" is still more common. At any rate, thanks for the info. I didn't know that in Hungary "maiden name" has been officially changed to "birth name." When did that happen? Marta Palos 05:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
In 2004 when the law was changed to allow men to change their names (also, te option of hyphenation was introduced at that time). It would funny to have the term "maiden name" on men's official papers :) Also, I know some American women (mostly in their late 20s – early 30s) who dislike the "maiden name" expression, they said it sounds outdated, that's why I thought maybe "birth name" is the politically correct one in the US too. – Alensha talk 20:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps it is. It isn't really that important to me. Cheers, Marta Palos 05:42, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
