Marshall, query for you here. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:35, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You say you support having a more prominent discussion of women in the lead. And yet you have removed the image of the woman being executed, and you continue to edit the version of the lead inserted by the Taliban supporters on that page. If you support a more prominent treatment of women in the intro, can I ask you please to act consistently with that? SlimVirgin (talk) 19:46, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, you edited a lead that moved the treatment of women to the end, and included the text: "Women were forced to wear the burqa in public ... in a response to the numerous rapes that were committed in the lawless environment that existed after two decades of war." And: "Girls were not allowed to be educated after the age of eight ... as the Taliban claimed that they did not have the funds to educate them."
It's bad enough to have to write about this misogyny without it being acted out in the article. I'd appreciate it if you would not contribute to it, even inadvertently. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will continue to question your motives if you continue to edit badly. You removed the image from the lead, as you know, and replaced it with an infobox containing the Taliban logo. The treatment of women is not a partisan issue. It was the issue that the Taliban became known for internationally; the only issue they were known for before 9/11. Please read the content policies: NPOV, V, and NOR. We don't edit leads to reflect our own views of what they ought to have been known for, but for what they were known for. And they were not known for failing to educate women because they had no money for it; they were not known for forcing women to remain covered to protect them from rape. That was the version you edited, and yet you call it "improving the quality of the article." As for your pointless fluff comment, I am speechless. SlimVirgin (talk) 20:17, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know whether you're pretending to misunderstand me, or whether you really didn't see what I wrote. Once again: I object to your saying, on the one hand, that you support a more prominent treatment in the lead of the position of women, and on the other hand (a) removing the image, (b) editing a version where the position of women was left to the end of the lead, and (c) (worst of all) editing a version that said women were not educated because the Taliban couldn't afford to educate them, and that women were forced to keep covered to protect them from rape. This is offensive Taliban propaganda, but you did nothing about it. SlimVirgin (talk) 20:52, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, what I am saying is that you're involving yourself in an article that you haven't even bothered to read; you're edit warring and then denying you're doing it; you're restoring leads that are offensive; and you are supporting editors who have widely acknowledged extremist views, and who are incapable of editing (here and elsewhere) within the policies. But I am the one you pick on to make accusations against ... SlimVirgin (talk) 21:12, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why are you removing Farsi and Arabic and returning Pashto? SlimVirgin (talk) 21:13, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pakistan Taliban

[edit]

There are countless number of news reports of Pakistani Taliban. I don't have to place source behind every sentence. This is now openly known that entire Pakistan has Taliban present, NWFP province, Balochistan, FATA areas, even Sindh and other smaller towns and villages throughout Pakistan. Taliban was started by Pashtuns but now it spread to other areas of other ethnicities. If you are not an expert on Taliban, why are you editing? Also, the Arabic writings in the very top is farsi and arabic, NOT PASHTO.--Birdazi 01:24, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3RR warning

[edit]

You have technically violated 3RR at Taliban by constantly reverting against multiple editors and by engaging in complex, partial reverts. I won't report it this time, because it may have been inadvertent, but please note for the future that every time you undo another editor's work, it counts toward 3RR. Please review WP:3RR. SlimVirgin (talk) 01:26, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You thanked me on my talk page for the warning, but you continued to revert. SlimVirgin (talk) 02:16, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then you're very lucky, because I warned you before I saw that edit. You had already violated 3RR before that. SlimVirgin (talk) 02:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're continuing to revert, and yet you're still within the 24 hour period. If you do it once more, I'm reporting it. SlimVirgin (talk) 16:42, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could you revert yourself, please? SlimVirgin (talk) 17:01, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't want to be reported, you'll have to revert yourself. SlimVirgin (talk) 17:04, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taliban

[edit]

That arabic writings on the very top does not have anything to do with meaning of the word Taliban. That is for those who can't read or understand English language so then they can read Taliban article in their languages, which is available in Arabic and Farsi languages. In order to do this, they type in ar:طالبان or fa:طالبان, or type "ar:" in the "search" then copy-paste the dark arabic writings next to it, and then you can read or edit the article in their languages. There is no Taliban article in Pashto language as far as I know. The word "Taliban" can be translated to any language as you can see in this English article the word is written as "Taliban". Putting Pashto at the top is telling others that there is no Arabic and Farsi article on Taliban. In fact there might be 100s of articles on Taliban in every language but you can't put all of them so the ones most likely will be interested to read is Arabs and Persians. Lets keep that the way it is. About Areas of operations, it is now very clear to almost everyone that the entire country of Afghanistan is under an operation. Check ISAF, Provincial Reconstruction Teams, US State deparment on country report for Afghanistan. Also check US deparment of state on country report for Pakistan. Both countries as a whole have Taliban movement present, Pakistan's president Musharraf very recently stated to the media that the entire Pakistan's population supports Taliban. Instead of pin-pointing where Taliban are most active, we rather put the whole country so travellars to those countries are aware that no place in those countris is considered safe. I am present in the region and I know little more than those who are living else where. This is a religious movement, not an ethnic or nationalistic movement.--Birdazi 02:13, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey, thanks for solving that 'picture problem' over at the Taliban article by making that infobox. I tried to tell them over and over that placing a pic of a public execution at the top of an article (ANY ARTICLE!) was POV, but they just wouldn't listen...until you came along and fixed it. So, thanks again! --Wassermann 05:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Ultimate_Force.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ultimate_Force.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:55, 1 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 11:55, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London

Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

WP:FILMS Questionnaire

[edit]

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Fair use rationale for File:Sloane Ranger Handbook.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sloane Ranger Handbook.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:39, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

London Wikimedia Fundraiser

[edit]

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.

Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:22, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
