Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Gilmour Academy, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. You need to source your additions, and you are required to properly disclose your situation as a paid editor. Meters (talk) 20:28, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And you really should follow the proper procedure and propose your edits on the article's talk page rather than making them yourself. Disclose your conflict of interest properly, request your changes with reliable sources, and someone will review them. Meters (talk) 20:32, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the fact that you work for the school does not mean that you own the copyright of material on the school's website. Meters (talk) 20:35, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help Editing

[edit]

I clearly need some help because everything I am trying to accomplish is getting flagged.

I would like to update the page for Gilmour Academy.

When you google Gilmour Academy and the wiki comes up, it has a tax code and a parent organization listed. Both of which are incorrect.

I was also trying to add the history of this amazing place but it keeps being flagged as well. Please help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marisaleemartin (talkcontribs) 20:37, August 25, 2021 (UTC)

Go back and read the links that you have removed from this talk page. You have added promotional, non-neutral material. You have added copyright-violating material. You have added unsourced material. You are a WP:PAID editor. And, not previously mentioned, you have removed maintenance tags. Read the links and follow the instructions. Your changes can be made by other editors if the changes are neutral, sourced, and not copyright violations. Meters (talk) 20:52, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Last warning: please stop making edits yourself. Declare your COI properly. Meters (talk) 21:06, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not use embedded links. Please read these instructions for creating citations. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:08, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You've already been given a final warning for adding non-neutral content; consider yourself warned against adding copyrighted content as well. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:08, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for trying to source things, but please do it properly. We use cited references rather than external links, and we add them following punctuation rather than in the middle of sentences. See WP:REFSTART. Meters (talk) 21:10, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meters and OhNoItsJamie. Please know I'm trying to do this correctly but for some reason it's not going well. I'm not a paid contributor that I know of. I'm trying to declare my COI but not sure if I did this correctly.

According to your userpage, your contributions "are made on behalf of Gilmour Academy and in consultation with them," but you're also saying that you are not a paid contributor? I don't think you are being truthful. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:31, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, let's be clear that Gilmour Academy is an encyclopedia article; Wikipedia articles are written in a neutral fashion in the voice of an encyclopedia, and all material must be reliably sourced. Wikipedia pages are not social media extensions, and are not intended to be managed by digital marketing specialists on behalf of the subjects. If you compensated by the subject of the article, you need to disclose that relationship. Per WP:PAID, editors with "a conflict of interest, including paid editors, are very strongly discouraged from directly editing affected articles, but should post content proposals on the talk pages of existing articles." Hi Meters and OhNoItsJamie.

I'm not exactly sure I fall under the paid contributor umbrella. See, I attended Gilmour and now I work here as the Digital Content Producer which you can verify here and look for Marisa Martin. While I work at Gilmour, I am not directly getting paid to update Wiki. I just love this place and want the info to be correct. If that makes me a Paid Contributor then okay. But the Paid Contributor page says "A paid contribution is one that involves contributing to Wikipedia in exchange for money or other inducements. It includes adding or removing content from any page, including articles and talk pages." which I am not getting money or other inducements.

Please know I 100% acknowledge the copyright issue and the POV issue and was trying to work on fixing that. Also, I completely acknowledge that this is not a marketing platform at all. I simply want the information to be correct. I am also working on adding citations at the end of the sentences rather than the words in the middle of a sentence.

If you are editing the page about your employer during the course of your employment, then you are a paid editor. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:50, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for clarifying. I have updated by COI here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Marisaleemartin. Does that suffice?

Yes, thank you. If you have further questions, start with the policy links that have already been left for you; if you're still not sure about something, the WP:TEAHOUSE is a good place to ask questions. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:56, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Again, please do not edit this page directly. Follow the COI guidelines and propose your edits on the article's talk page. You should not be editing this article directly. See WP:EDITREQ and WP:COIADVICE. Meters (talk) 06:05, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meters, I will propose my edits but not sure where the article's talk page is. Every time I click it, it directs me to here. Can I propose my changes here?

Article talk page: Talk:Gilmour_Academy. When you're looking at an article, you're on the "Article" tab; to the right of that is the "talk" tab. OhNoitsJamie Talk 13:43, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Do not copy-paste the entire article plus your changes to the talk page. How are we supposed to figure out what you've changed? Please read Wikipedia:Edit_requests and Wikipedia:Sample_edit_requests before editing again. OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:22, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
