I got your message. Would you classify yourself as a friend or a fan of theirs? Please sign with four tildes and nothing else, no name, no spaces. Bearian (talk) 20:07, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
I would say that Admirer is a better description. At one time I was a member of the Bolshoi Ballet, and I have an exacting set of standards I apply to performers. I happen to believe that the Albek Duo is well deserving of Wikipedia attention, but I will follow your lead if you think I am overstating anything. My intention is to be completely factual.Marinaperry (talk) 20:33, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
COI on Albek Duo
[edit]Hi Marinaperry
I believe there you have a conflict of interest with respect to the Albek Duo article. If you link an e-mail account to your Wikipedia, I would be happy to explain why in a private e-mail (you can go to "My preferences" to do so). Or, as you appear not to be concerned about your real world identity, with your permission here I will simply state the reason for my belief.
Regards, Bongomatic 08:20, 8 December 2010 (UTC) Should you wish to reply, please do so here. I will watch this page for a few days, so no {{talkback}} or other comment on my talk page is required.
- Yes. Bongo, please tell me why my writing about an ensemble that I think is notable and becoming increasingly so is inappropriate. I really want to make this entry both factual and effective, and I am very open to your suggestions. I will be putting in interior references as requested later today or tomorrow.
- I also would like a clarification. If ultimately you don't approve of the article, would it be reduced to a stub so we could revisit it in a year or so when their three new CDs have been released and they will have had, I understand, a North American and a UK tour with attendant publicity? I wouldn't want them to be excised permanently as their discography and public recognition continues to grow. Help me please.Marinaperry (talk) 21:11, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
It appears to me that you are Marina Perry, married to William P. Perry, who is the publisher and author of a musical work for Albek Duo. Hence there is a monetary (albeit probably not massive) and personal conflict of interest.
One of the good things about Wikipedia is that even if an article is deleted, it can always be undeleted in the future if new material can be added. And many administrators are willing to "userfy" articles deleted at AfD discussions into a user's personal work area for improvement over time. I should note that the article on you and your husband do not have the necessary references to be included in Wikipedia and also reflect COI editing. Bongomatic 22:20, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- I have written factually and accurately as much as I know about the Albek Duo. I was going to add known references in the main copy, but if you think that they would not contribute to the decision to retain or delete the entry, then please tell me. I would ask you, however, to try to persuade your associates to put the entry into a "userfy" or stub category because Duo Albek is a rapidly rising ensemble in both performance and recording. I'm sure you'll return to them another day with another writer.
- For the record, my husband wrote a concerto for the Duo after attending one of their recitals and being excited about the challenge of writing for a combination that had rarely been utilized since Mendelssohn. Naxos recorded the work within three weeks of its premiere. He has written a number of concertos (trumpet, cello, piano) all of which have been commercially recorded and none of which were commissioned or paid for by the artists. For myself, I am a web designer with no financial interest of any kind in the matters under discussion. I do, however, care very much about Wikipedia and have tried to write to its standards.
- I can't help but add one more note about William P. Perry. Apart from his awards and nominations (Emmy Award, Tony Award, Peabody Award etc.) he is regarded as one of the key people responsible for the revival of interest in silent films and silent film music. During his tenure as Musical Director at the Museum of Modern Art he composed more than a hundred silent film scores, many now available on DVD. His disciples are the new generation of silent film pianists. Over thirty years he produced nearly a hundred national programs for PBS (Anyone for Tennyson, The Silent Years, the Mark Twain Series, etc.) and at the age of 80 is still remarkably active as a composer/producer with his films and film scores being played throughout the world. I am in no way accusing you of acting in bad faith. However, I would encourage you to review the key policies and guidelines relating to article inclusion in Wikipedia. Some that I think would be particularly relevant to your stated editing objectives are WP:V, WP:N, WP:NOR, WP:NOT, and WP:COI.
You can "userfy" the article yourself now by moving it to your own user space and then nominating the resulting redirect for deletion. I can do this for you if you would like.
My recommendation is that—notwithstanding the COI—you focus your editing activities for now on improving William P. Perry by providing references for your above claims and the claims made in the article. For specific facts—such as having won or having been nominated for an award—primary (rather than secondary / tertiary) sources are just fine. For most other sorts of information, secondary / tertiary sources are generally preferred. See the WP:PSTS section of NOR. Bongomatic 01:27, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you, Bongo. Yes, I would be very appreciative if you could "userfy" the Albek Duo and move it to my user space. Does that mean that the entire article will be transported to that space and live there until there is enough new material to nominate it again?
- I think I undersatnd now what the William P. Perry article needs. I am reading the Wiki procedural sections you identified and will shortly begin the improvement process. I have sources and references that I'm sure will answer the requirements.
- Point of curiosity: will this article remain on your editorial list or do these get passed around to other administrators? I feel that I have found a very helpful administrator and hope that you will remain as my primary contact.
- And are you really from The Netherlands?Marinaperry (talk) 02:13, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
I am not an administrator at all . . . just a regular volunteer editor like yourself. I have gotten involved in AfD nominations (AfD, prod, and speedy nominations are all made by regular editors—admins are required only to delete articles). I'll continue to follow the articles (they're on my watch list), but if I miss something important, just leave a note on my talk page.
The reason I pointed you towards the William P. Perry article is that (again, COI notwithstanding), if the claims you have made are verifiable, then the subject will easily pass the notability requirements. COI editing is—as you can see from the other policies and guidelines—not a reason for article deletion, but for extra attention.
And no, I'm not from the Netherlands at all—my user page is 90% rubbish that was deposited there by other editors. Bongomatic 02:22, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
. . . and done. See User:Marinaperry/Albek Duo. Bongomatic 02:42, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Appropriate references
[edit]Hi Marinaperry
References to Wikipedia are not acceptable. If you want to demonstrate that someone was given or nominated for an award, please identify either the award's own press release or website, or third-party coverage in reliable sources reporting the award or nomination.

Hi Bongo. Sorry about that. I have now sourced industry publications. Work in progress.Marinaperry (talk) 03:31, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
- You should really look either for primary sources (e.g., the Tony Awards web site) or reliable sources (e.g., Variety, New York Times, etc.). IMDB is singled out for not being a reliable source (though it's useful for external links). The other source you added is also not preferred. Bongomatic 03:49, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Hi Bongo. Over the past few days I have worked assiduously on the William P. Perry entry, and I believe that I have answered all the points you so helpfully made. I added and adjusted material in the article and both cleaned it up and improved it.I established verification references throughout, and these are from highly respected and recognized sources. Perry has been written about and reviewed a great deal. As you noted in a previous talk response, properly referenced sources would have no problem in establishing Perry's notability.
As a sidenote, there are only two active producer/composers who write the music for the films they produce. One is Clint Eastwood (though he doesn't do orchestrations of course) and the other is William Perry. In former times, Chaplin wrote music for some of his films and also MGM's Arthur Freed. But it's very rare.
So with thanks for your good counsel, I will ask you now to remove the advisories at the top of the article or allow me to do so.
I am leaving to spend some time with my father. When I return after Christmas, I will address two other entries that you have tagged. I wish you very happy holidays.Marinaperry (talk) 02:59, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
