Hello, did you get the referencing error message thing sorted out? It all looks fine now.

This is not an official review, but I just wanted to point out your draft lacks a clear WP:Lead section. We must have an absolutely explicit who-what-why-when-where, ideally as the first paragraph. As a fictional example, something like "Acme Whisky Company is a distillery founded in 1909 in Arglebargle County by Henrik Foss, and currently owned by Glamor LLC. The company produces over 60,000 barrels per year." A concise wrap-up of the highest points of the article. WP articles aren't mystery novels with a surprise ending, you want to front-load at least brief mentions of all the key points.

Following that, your language is too promotional and flowery. WP writing should be, to be blunt, bone dry and dull. So please remove cute things like "From Past to Present" and stick to a simple and literal "History", like that.

So far as sourcing, you're leaning kinda heavy on the Times Free Press. Don't remove those cites, but try to strengthen it up. Poke around on Google, find other news sources that back up current facts in the article, or better yet introduce and verify additional facts. It helps all the more if you can find some news media from further away too, showing this is not purely of local interest.

As the article stands now it'll probably get sent back to you for some tweaking, so don't be surprised if you get an initial decline, but while waiting for review continue to improve tone and sourcing, and we'll see how it works out. Thanks for your contributions to our coverage so far. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:15, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Doubling up footnotes?

[edit]

Formatting issue: it appears you're typing out a full citation, and then adding a footnote of the same citation after it? Please don't do that, just type your facts in normal narrative, and when you want to show where that fact is proven, that's where you put a footnote.

So don't do:

when two men, Joe Ledbetter and Tim Piersant decided to change it.{{cite web|first1=staff|title=Chattanooga Whiskey Company 1816|url=http://www.tennesseewhiskeytrail.com/whiskey-friends/|website=TN Whiskey Trail|accessdate=2009}} <ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.tennesseewhiskeytrail.com/whiskey-friends/ |title=TN Whiskey Trail Whiskey FriendsTN Whiskey Trail |publisher=Tennesseewhiskeytrail.com |date= |accessdate=2014-07-17}}</ref>

Instead just do:

when two men, Joe Ledbetter and Tim Piersant decided to change it.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.tennesseewhiskeytrail.com/whiskey-friends/ |title=TN Whiskey Trail Whiskey FriendsTN Whiskey Trail |publisher=Tennesseewhiskeytrail.com |date= |accessdate=2014-07-17}}</ref>

That way you aren't interrupting your narrative by saying "THIS COMES FROM THE TN WHISKEY TRAIL SITE!!!", but by having the "ref" coding you make a nice blue footnote, so readers can click it (or just hover their mouse over it) if they want to see from whence you derived the fact that Ledbetter and Piersant started the business.

Please fix this formatting issue for any footnotes where you have a redundant citation, and things will flow much better. MatthewVanitas (talk) 07:55, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
