Information icon Hello.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits a summary may be quite brief.

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Hemantha (talk) 03:58, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I came here to add the same information that you see above, but I see that someone else already did so. It is good advice; please use edit summaries on all of your edits. Thank you. Mathglot (talk) 09:26, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:50, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LQUOTE

[edit]

It is part of the MOS to use WP:LQUOTE. If most of the article's sentences end with the ending dots/commas inside of the quotation marks, you can do a ctrl+F and replace them to fix all of this (double check everytime, in case you ever find an edgecase). Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Council of Fifty, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page John Taylor. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:56, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Captions

[edit]

Hey! I was just looking at your edits to Islam in China—just so you know, according to the Manual of Style, image captions do not have a final full stop if the caption does not contain a full sentence. Cheers! Remsense 23:36, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bernardo Rucellai

Hi! You're really edit-warring over a red link? How does that help the encyclopaedia? Please read this, specifically where it mentions [red] " ... links to a term that could plausibly sustain an article ..." – which of course is the case for these rather significant Florentine gardens. Perhaps you'd then be good enough to revert your mistaken edit? Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:00, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Jessica Alba. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. General Ization Talk 21:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

Information icon Please do not move a page unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus, as you did to Umm al-Kitab (Shi'i book). This includes making page moves while a discussion remains underway. You are in effect edit warring on Umm al-Kitab (Shi'i book). Please revert your edits and discuss at Talk:Umm al-Kitab (Shi'i book). Thanks, ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 17:21, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Marcin Rychlewicz,
Do not move-war about an article's page title. If you are reverted, please go to the article talk page and start a discussion. Persisting in doing this can result in a loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:12, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
