Request on 21:46:56, 18 January 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by PinkAechFas

Hi Marc. I was approached last year by someone who works for Di Jones Estate Agents. They had their page deleted. They asked me on my talk page to help out with fixing the problem. I couldn't find a copy of what used to be there so I have written a page that I think covers off the basics. They contacted me because I have edited some other Australian real estate related articles. I wrote a fair bit about LJ Hooker (both the man and the company) a few years ago and they both seemed deserving of seperate articles. In this case Di Jones (the person) is a fairly interesting and the company effectively seem to be following her principals after her death but I can't see that there should be two seperate articles. One very frustrating thing in researching the article is that even though both the person and the company we extremely high profile in the print media in the 1990's and early 2000's there is almost no record of those articles on Trove etc. It was much easier to research LJ Hooker with most of their interesting history occurring before 1990. In any event I imagine the Di Jones article can be improved upon in the future when this information isn't behind expensive paywalls.

I also wrote to User_talk:Dan_arndt yesterday as he was the person that appeared to delete the old page. I have had no suggestions from him yet.

What I was trying to do with the wording of the article was to make it clear why the business/person are notable in two ways:

1. Di Jones the person was a notable and important individual in Australian business circles. The real estate industry is still very much made dominated. I thought that the following comment in one of the news articles used as a citation makes this case very clearly:

https://agent.domain.com.au/news/remembering-di-jones-and-her-profound-impact-on-the-australian-real-estate-industry-952659/

And her female trailblazing has always stood the women who followed Di Jones into real estate in great stead, believes Leanne Pilkington, the current Real Estate Institute of NSW president.

“She really proved that if you were committed and worked hard, you could blaze your own path,” she says. “She was a great inspiration for women like me to achieve – especially when I’m only the second female president in 110 years of the institute!

Other articles on Wikipedia focus on the successes of male real estate agents eg

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McGrath_Estate_Agents https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McGrath_(entrepreneur)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LJ_Hooker https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Joseph_Hooker

I therefore think that to provide a balance to Wikipedia and context to readers it is essential to include some mention of a female success.

2. I tried to list some of the 'firsts' that they achieved to prove that the business was/is notable. In other words that they were pioneers in terms of using internet technology etc. I didn't think that this was promotional because it is really ancient history now as far as a customer in 2023 is concerned.

I am not really sure where to go to from here. I have never had this happen before. Can you please suggest what I might need to change?

There are many phrases in the draft which together make it read like it was written by the organisation to promote itself. Taken together the overall tone is that of an advert. For example, "The business supports an open innovation approach for employees to solve problems or improve existing capabilities for both themselves and their customers at their own discretion." That could have come straight from their own website. It adds little in terms of understanding of the company, but tends to promote them as a great organisation without any real evidence that this is supported by anyone other than themselves. The fact that the reference is to an independent source isn't relevant because it is to a lifestyle section and is clearly just quoting the company not independent analysis. Or this "The business has always supported groups enacting female empowerment and gender equality in Australian society". It isn't referenced, it does not have a neutral tone. Even using "passed away" rather than "died" makes this read like a eulogy rather than a neutral article. So there is no one objectionable sentence, it is more the overall tone that needs addressing. Draft:Pete Festersen

Why did you decline my draft, I really want this success so tell me 2600:8804:1382:2000:90C7:4EF4:981B:6A52 (talk) 21:46, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

All the information is here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pete Festersen and in the notability guidelines for politicians. Wikipedia has a minimum standard for politicians which, loosely, means that only national politicians and those of large sub-national bodies (e.g., like the governor of California) will meet the standard. Festersen does not appear to be sufficiently notable. MarcGarver (talk) 09:49, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Help!

Hey, MarcGarver I need your help please review my draft https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Maulana_Kaif_Raza_Khan 103.126.63.69 (talk) 05:31, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Declined the draft

I'm new to the Wikipedia and I'm unable to understand why the draft has been declined. Can you please help me in this to get it approved. Here is the link to the draft: Draft:Udapachar Mogalgiddi (talk) 13:24, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

  1. It isn't neutral. Wikipedia requires you to write in a neutral tone. E.g., "he was a teacher" is fine, "he was a much beloved teacher" is not okay because it is not neutral
  2. Wikipedia requires notability - that several reliable independent sources discuss the person in some way. You have not provided any that demonstrate notability.
  3. It isn't clear why this person should be in an encyclopedia. What did they actually do that makes them a person of interest?

Hi MarcGarver,

Please could you feedback/explain reasons why the Adam Stott page was rejected, despite multiple citations. And please can you explain the conflict of interest.

Thanks very much for your help, any support would be appreaciated.

Recognitionpr1 (talk) 15:20, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

It has precisely ZERO citations. Your account name implies you are a PR agency, hence the conflict. MarcGarver (talk) 16:19, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Mark - thanks for your feedback. I've gone and added some more info on the subject who is very prominent in F1 business and law. I hope this meets the notability criteria and would love to get your feedback.

Hi MarcGarver, I saw my article was declined because of insignificant references. Could you tell me please what kind of sources I need to add in this article? I mean, if IMDB insignificant, so what should I look for? MorozovKa (talk) 10:55, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

The best advice can be found in the Wikipedia guide at WP:BLPRS. You will see, for example, the the problem with IMDb is it self-published and therefore not reliable (because there is no serious editorial control). You are looking for things like proper newspapers, serious magazines, and so on. MarcGarver (talk) 22:11, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

I worked on Clifton Suspension Bridge to bring it up to Good Article standard. Because I didn't write the nomination, it doesn't appear via the tool, but I did the work to make it good and that's what counts as far as I am concerned. MarcGarver (talk) 11:45, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
Maybe changing the link would clarify it. 多多123 () 11:53, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
