Cleanup
Thank you for consistent quality cleanup of articles, such as Prisoner-of-war camp, and for seeing where "risk is zero", - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Thanks for updating: I am just creating the basic/start class articles for some of the otherwise anbset Urban and Rural Districts - and was going to add the categories afterwards as a group (unless 'someone else' had done so). Jackiespeel (talk) 11:02, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi QuiteUnusal
It was not my intention to be submitting spammy content. I fixed/updated dead links by submitting fresh links witch confirmed the statements of the content in the wikipedia article. The link referred to also had a 2nd link to another reliable source for the claim.
I do admit that the link was directed to our website but I still believed the link was 100% relevant and reliable.
If your really of the opinion that making statements (such as I fixed) without having any source is better than my contribution, than I will of course stop making an effort in what I actually believed was improving the wikipedia article.
Best regards,
EmmaHenders (talk) 14:39, 19 January 2015 (UTC) Emma
- Adding links to your own website is hard to separate from spamming. While it may be constructive and an improvement to Wikipedia, it is difficult to see it as not being at least unintentionally promotional. I, however, am just one editor and my opinion is worth no more than anybody else's. There is some guidance at WP:SPAMMER on how to avoid the problem of link addition being seen as spam which may help. If you are acting in good faith and the links you are including in the citation support the material in the article then they may be acceptable. QuiteUnusual (talk) 14:53, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply and the info. I just find it a bit strange however that your comment in the edit when undoing my work was "restore higher quality ref". How can dead links possibly be higher quality ref? I will make sure to give more details of the reason for making changes if I make further contribution to wikipedia. Best regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by EmmaHenders (talk • contribs) 11:20, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Deadlinks are not removed or replaced by default and nor is a replacement necessarily better quality than a deadlink. Deadlinks sometimes "come back to life" or the material they referred to can be identified in another location. For example, if a reputable journal published a scientific study but then the link went dead, replacing it with a link to a tabloid newspaper that glossed over the same subject would not be a good replacement. It would be better to leave the deadlink until another source for the original scientific paper could be found. Given you appeared to be spamming it was questionable if the links you were inserting were an improvement over the deadlink - hence the edit summary. QuiteUnusual (talk) 11:54, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
