Chevron Cars Ltd
[edit]Edward321. Why did you remove the link to Kelvin Jones Motorsport that I posted on the Chevron Cars Ltd page? KJM is approved by Chevron Cars Ltd to build and prepare Chevron cars. Manlydesign (talk) 19:46, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Lots of companies restore cars, so unless Kelvin Jones is the only firm authorized to do so, the link exists only to advertise KJ, which is specifically against Wikipedia guidelines. If KJ is the only company allowed to restore Chevron Cars, that might make them notable, in which case I recommend creating an article if you can find some indepedendant sources. BTW, you were lucky I spotted this, you're more likely to get a response if you put it on the article's or my talk page. Edward321 (talk) 00:06, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Chevron Cars Ltd do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Chevron Cars Ltd. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Edward321 (talk) 05:15, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Chevron Cars Ltd.
[edit]I'm going to make this simple. Please stop adding a link to Kelvin Jones Motorsport to Chevron Cars Ltd. We understand that Kelvin Jones Motorsport makes parts for certain Chevron models. However, a company which makes parts for Chevrons is not entirely notable, as there are multiple companies which make parts for various Chevrons. Kelvin Jones Motorsport's website specifically states that the company sells authorized parts for two models, that is unfortunately not notable enough to really include a link. Links should be about the Chevron company(ies), not companies that assist Chevron in making their parts.
To further this matter, the only edits you have performed on Wikipedia have involved adding a link to this website. This is troubling as it makes you appear to be here simply to spam or promote your website. If you wish to truly contribute to Wikipedia, please edit, improve, add, or create articles. Hell, the Chevron Cars Ltd article itself needs improvement. However, don't continue to repeatedly promote your website by re-adding a link that has been removed for justifiable reasons. Please also read Wikipedia:External links for an in-depth discussion of why your link is not allowed. The359 (talk) 07:14, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Please heed the advice you were given nearly three years ago. Your addition of an external link to a company that offers service for Chevron vehicles is not inherently notable, no matter who has authorized what. Your additions seem to be self promotional rather than constructive, as nearly every edit to Wikipedia by you has been to add your link to Chevron Cars Ltd. Please read our information o Conflicts of Interest. The359 (Talk) 09:37, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:Declan Jones.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Declan Jones.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Declan Jones article
[edit]That has improved it but the main thing is that a biography of a living person needs inline citations for all claims made in the article. To learn more about inline citations please look at the red review box posted at the top of the article.
That article should never have been published they way it is and I have labeled it as needing references (it also needs inline citations). The problem is that in recent years people have published things about living persons that were not true and Wikipedia has been sued over it. These steps are in place to protect the organization and the people that the articles are about. The article you referenced was created before these steps were in place. As you can imagine, it is quite the process to change all articles of living persons (especially for a bunch of volunteers that do this stuff in our spare time). Thank you for taking the initiative to try and figure it out and not just resubmit. Chris1834 (talk) 17:24, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
The refs have been vastly improved and you could probably resubmit. I can't guarantee anything though as I may not be the editor that reviews it and that is some of the problem also. There are rules in place but different people interpret them different ways. Chris1834 (talk) 22:29, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

It's probably best if I respond to your enquiry here on your Talk page. The claim to be "one of the youngest winners" doesn't amount to a great deal, in my view. The 'news' article that claims this (and the other 'news' articles cited) are from a Sports software developers website, so hardly what could be called a reliable journalistic news source. You can see from Wikipedia's golden rule what is needed to prove a person is 'notable' enought for Wikipedia. In addition there are alternative guidelines for sportspeople with a specific section for motorsports participants. Maybe better to wait until Jones is older and competing in major professional races. Sionk (talk) 22:59, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- Sionk,
- Thanks again for the prompt reply.
- The report of Declan winning is not just on a "Sports developers website" but others too. Did I choose the wrong type of site? Others include the Race Series own website http://www.britishgt.com/newsitem.php?key=1908, a top regional newspaper http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/junior-sport/liverpools-teenage-motor-racing-star-6389476 and race car manufacturers own site, http://www.ginetta.com/news_article?id=911.
- Manlydesign (talk) 16:18, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
- Well yes, the Liverpool Echo is undoubtedly a reliable journalistic source, but doesn't give a great deal of biographical info, other than he's a successful young racer who's looking for funding. It sounds like he will be picked up at some point and graduate to senior racing, so hopefully he's on track to be 'notable' at some point in the future. Sionk (talk) 13:41, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Sionk, I am sorry to have to keep on like this but the point is that the Avon British GT championship IS senior racing. The entry fee alone is £10,000. This is my whole point for notability. Declan is only 19 and yet has achieved a win "in the most prestigious and stylish sportscar grid of any national motor sport championship in the world" http://www.britishgt.com/info.php. Thanks again for your prompt reply. Manlydesign (talk) 15:41, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'm no great follower of British motorsport but GT4 seems to be an amateur class of race. At the moment I'm not convinced enough to accept the article. Sionk (talk) 16:29, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Sionk, Thanks again. It's great to get such prompt feedback. Does it help that the both team mates Declan had last season have had there submissions accepted? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zo%C3%AB_Wenham and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Freke. I appreciate you don't follow British motorsport but as I said GT4 is a senior class. You need at least a minimum of an International Grade C license to enter.
