Why am I not active in the Tagalog Wikipedia

[edit]

Well, I've wrote it down on my user page under the WikiPhilosophy section:

The English Wikipedia is canonical. At least with respect to the other Philippine-language editions Wikipedia. I prefer that the articles in the Tagalog, Cebuano, Kapampangan and other Philippine Wikipedias be simply translated version of their English counterparts. After all, the aim of having versions of Wikipedia in various languages is so that people who understand the language can get access to this free information. It therefore won't help to have differing information in different languages. This is the reason why I will remain primarily active in the English edition, instead of in the Tagalog Wikipedia.

Hope I answered your question. :) --seav 06:30, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thailand subdivisions

[edit]

Thailand have 75 provinces (changwat) and 1 capital metropolis, Bangkok. (Thai people also count them as 76 changwats.) A province divides into districts (amphoe). Only some provinces also have minor districts (king amphoe). King amphoe is not sub of amphoe; they are on the same level, king amphoe just has smaller area. Each amphoe divides into sub-districts (tambon), and then villages (mooban or ban). I won't describe about Bangkok; you can read in the article.

The Thai word King (กิ่ง) means branch and should not be confused with the english word King.

See this tree.

  • metropolis
  • changwat
    • amphoe or king amphoe
      • tambon
        • mooban or ban

The question you ask is about "Mueang". There is no really "Mueang" in Thailand but every province must have one capital main district called amphoe Mueang, so "Mueang Chiang Rai" should refer to amphoe Mueang in Chiang Rai, not the whole province of Chiang Rai. This applies to other provinces, too. --Octra Bond 21:51, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For a little, Mueang can be refer to Towns, one type of Thailand's municipality, such as Thesaban Mueang Saraburi which its area is a part of Amphoe Mueang Saraburi etc.. See also: Thesaban. --202.183.233.11 05:59, 25 May 2007 (UTC) (i'm user:thanyakij from Thai Wikipedia)[reply]

I think that you misunderstand about this: "province > amphoe mueang > tambon > muban". We call every district by beginning with "amphoe". So don't join "amphoe" and "mueang" as one thing. Amphoe mueang is just an amphoe name in a province. See Chiang Rai Province#Administrative divisions as example. The correct direction should be as the above tree.

Amphoe mueang is on the same level as another amphoe, just where to plot placemark of province on the map.

Who leads them all? They have both led by governors, local people, and juristic person (org's):

  • province: led by a Provincial Governor (Phuwa Ratchakan Changwat, ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด, as gov); Thesaban Nakhon (เทศบาลนคร, as local); and Provincial Administration Organization (องค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัด: อบจ., as juristic person)
  • amphoe: led by a District Chief Officer (Nai Amphoe, นายอำเภอ, as gov); and Thesaban Mueang (เทศบาลเมือง, as local)
  • tambon: led by a Kamnan (กำนัน, as gov or local); Thesaban Tambon (เทศบาลตำบล, as local); and Subdistrict Administration Organization (องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบล: อบต., as juristic person)
  • mooban: led by a Villege Leader (Phuyai Ban, ผู้ใหญ่บ้าน, as gov or local)

Only อบจ. and อบต. must come from election in the local area. Even they all are so many but they administrate in different responsibility. --Octra Bond 11:39, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thailand's administration is divide into three sections.

Central Administration (ราชการส่วนกลาง) Regional Administration (ราชการส่วนภูมิภาค) Local Administration (ราชการส่วนท้องถิ่น)
  • Government (รัฐบาล)
    Prime Minister (นายกรัฐมนตรี)
    • Ministry (กระทรวง)
      Minister (รัฐมนตรี)
      • Department (กรม)
        Director General (อธิบดี)
  • Province
    Provincial Governor (ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด)
    • District
      District Chief Officer (นายอำเภอ)
      • Commune or Subdistrict
        Kamnan (กำนัน)
        • Village
          Village Leader (ผู้ใหญ่บ้าน)
  • Provincial Administration Organization (องค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัด)
    PAO.Mayor (นายกองค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัด)
    • Thesaban (เทศบาล)
      Thesaban Mayor (นายกเทศมนตรี)
    • Commune (Subdistrict) Administration Organization (องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบล)
      CAO.Mayor (นายกองค์การบริหารส่วนตำบล)
    • BMA: Bangkok Metropolitan Administration
      (กรุงเทพมหานคร(องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่น))*
      Bangkok Governor (ผู้ว่าราชการกรุงเทพมหานคร)
    • Mueang Pattaya (เมืองพัทยา)*
      Pattaya City Manager (นายกเมืองพัทยา)
  • Central Administration is policy level and only operation level in Bangkok, it rules economic, health, people-registration, military, currency, agricultural policy, transportation, communication, electricity, waterworks and others exclude some infrastructural-works and environmental-works (which the Local do).
  • Regional Administration is operation level in the other provinces in the same as Central Administration
  • Local Administration rule some infrastructural-works environmental-works and promote their own area and do some transportation and waterworks which the Central Government don't.

Note: Bangkok and Pattaya is special pattern of Local Administration ,municipality, they are in class of Thesaban Nakhon

Note: The PAO. is the consultant committee of Provincial Governor and it not directly administrate it's area.

Note: Thesaban and CAO are the same level of municipality, its area may be is not exact to the provincial division and Thesaban Nakorn is not only rule in Amphoe Muang because it divide into class by its population level, Thesaban Nakhon is more population than Thesaban Mueang such as Nonthaburi has two thesaban Nakhon which are Thesaban Nakhon Nonthaburi and Thesaban Nakhon Pakkret because it has population more than 50,000 and/or a population density more than 3,000 per square kilometre. But Amphoe Chakkarat of Nakhon Ratchasima Province has its municipality in the class of Thesaban Tambon because it has less population.

Proposed blackout in protest of RA 10175

[edit]

Dear Mananaliksik,

Greetings!

As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.

Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.

Thank you and maraming salamat po!

Kind regards,

Article Feedback Tool update

[edit]

Hey Mananaliksik. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:41, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
