Vulgar Latin

[edit]

It's a widely known fact that there was a significant difference between literary and popular Latin in the Roman world. So I wasn't trying to "prove" this fact in my edit summary by citing the wikipedia article, but just trying to remark something which -in my naivety- I assumed to be obvious. Last, I'm not compelled to read discussion pages because, you see, this is -or is meant to be- an encyclopedia, not a social network nor a guild with its own unwritten rules and masonic-like internal traditions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.167.204.15 (talk) 02:14, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Latin Spelling and Pronunciation

[edit]

I reverted your reversion of the article on Latin spelling and pronunciation‎. The monophthongization of /æ/ in unaccented syllables (such as in Troiae) took place early in the republican period. (Corssen I, 687 ff.) It's unlikely that Virgil himself would have pronounced unaccented /æ/ as a diphthong. If you wish to discuss this further, please do so in either your talkpage, mine, or the article's discussion section. Szfski (talk) 19:49, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. Quintilian and Terentius Scaurus disagree with me. Szfski (talk) 20:50, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
