Oh my God you were right....... (In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith,[1] a Canadian physical education student and instructor at YMCA Training School[2] (today, Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters to keep the students in shape. After rejecting other ideas as either too rough or poorly suited to walled-in gymnasiums, he wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot (3.05 m) elevated track.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wannabe Wiki (talk • contribs) 08:41, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Merge discussion
[edit]Why did you remove the merge discussion from the page? Just wondering. Midorihana みどりはな 01:45, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Could you please respond? Thanks! Midorihana みどりはな 04:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, thanks for replying. I felt that the merge would work in that case because there was an entry at the other page (Minor_characters_from_The_Hitchhiker's_Guide_to_the_Galaxy#Paula_Nancy_Millstone_Jennings_of_Sussex) and that the information at your page could fix there as well. Sometimes, we do have to merge things and part with articles, but everything is in the interest of Wikipedia. :) What happens during a merge is that the information in an article is combined with an article of the same topic, and the old page is redirected. Nothing is 'destroyed'; you can continue to work on the other page, and the same information will be there. Would it be alright if I put the merge template back on again for discussion?
- Also, when you're editing and making a change which may require explanation (such as removing a merge template), it's a good idea to use edit summaries. :)
Happy editing, Midorihana みどりはな 19:09, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Alright. If you're concerned about loss of information while merging, you can go ahead and help too if the consensus is to merge. Midorihana みどりはな 07:01, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- P.S. - see WP:MERGE too for more info on merging. :) Midorihana みどりはな 07:06, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, my new wiki cake however is much better and I will also send you a cookie so ha,ha

Totemism - in Australian Aboriginal religion
[edit]Thanks for your recent edit to Australian Aboriginal mythology adding reference to totemism (and for so drawing attention to the need for this article to cover totemism in Aboriginal Australia.)
I am, however, a little concerned at how accurate your edit is, and I'm not certain the reference you've used is the most authoritative or reliable of those we should be able to find.
From experience, trying to remember off the top of my head : - while it is true that the term 'totem' was first borrowed from the Americas, then later applied to Australian Aborigines .. I think the form it took/takes in Australia is substantially different to the American (?) form you describe.
As I understand it, in Australia if you imagine family, relationships and obligations as extending outwards and including the non-human world .. then:
1. the whole world is made up of places, waters, clouds, features, flora and fauna with whom one is closely related .. and those who are other people's close relations
2. the whole world consists of 'classes' of places, waters, clouds, features etc .. and one's obligations, responsibilities and rights are in part predetermined by the object, place, plant or animals 'class'
3. there are some 'classes' from whom one is expected, even required to 'marry' into etc .. and their are other classes which one is prohibited from marryin into etc ... (see for instance Lardil kinship totems)
Whatever the actual case may be .. I am pretty certain, Aboriginal totemism is more complex than your edit currently suggests.
On the above grounds, if it's OK with you, I'd like to cut and past your current edit into the article's talk page .. until we have done a bit more detailed research .. possibly to create a new section specifically on totemism?!! Bruceanthro (talk) 13:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

The reason I was blocked was that I am apparantly a sock puppet of User:Adrian Fletcher. This is incorrect. I am simply a friend and am in correspondence with him through his User Wannabe Wiki page. Request reason:
I have not done anything wrong. I have been blocked due to the accusation that I am a sock puppet of User:Adrian Fletcher and User:Wannabe Wiki. This is incorrect. I do not know how to prove this, but if you would review my record and compare it against these other users who are apparantly controlling me, then I'm sure you will see that a mistake has been made. In accordance with previous declines of this unblock template, I have visited the Arbitration page and was going to enter my case, but due to the blocking, I was unable to enter a case through editing the page. Please, if you do decline, tell me how to appeal the blok so that my account can be unblocked.
Decline reason:
No admin here is going to unblock you on their own when this involves an ArbCom decision. Email a member of the committee. This has been explained to you above. — Daniel Case (talk) 03:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
