Little context in Tourism in Europe

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Tourism in Europe, by Vegaswikian, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Tourism in Europe is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Tourism in Europe, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Tourism in Europe itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 00:14, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First, I don't agree with you that the link is proper per WP:EL. Second, this is part of a larger dispute which you might want to comment on: Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#User:Bookuser. -- Ronz  20:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Entertaining-mr-sloane-poster.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:27, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

news

[edit]

Too bad you deleted the news about the Queen Elisabeth Competition. You describe the item as not newsworthy because the agencies haven't covered it. The fact that the major international agencies haven't covered it is strangely true... Astonishing.

But who decides what's newsworthy on WP? Commercial news agencies? I think you're terribly wrong on this news item. The queen elisabeth competition is probably the most important classical music competition in the world, so winning it deserves a news item, at least in the music portal. A red link can simply be removed by removing the brackets.

Re: Image:Beatles cropped.jpg deleted without a log entry

[edit]

Hi, this image was apparently hosted at the Wikimedia Commons. It was deleted earlier today by commons:User:EPO because of some copyright violation. I don't know what the problem was, I recall that this image was properly sourced and so forth. The easiest way to find out is to ask EPO about it. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 14:10, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out that this was cropped from Image:Beatles.jpg, a photo deleted by commons:User:Tom because it was "Not a PD image; rights to pre-1991 UPI images are now owned by CORBIS: http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/res/151_upi.html; confirmed in CORBIS database." This is technically true, many images from the New York World-Telegram & Sun Collection at the Library of Congress were copyrighted by United Press International, which folded in '91 (correction: bankrupt, sold of all assets, etc.). While Corbis bought out the whole lot of UPI images, the LoC does note that "In an attempt to determine if UPI registered any copyrights and if those copyrights were renewed, Specialists in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress searched the Copyright Office files. It was found that only a few images were registered for copyright and those copyrights were not renewed." If there is any proof that the copyright on that photograph was not renewed, we could prove that it is in the public domain. Don't expect Corbis to be cooperative though - they don't care whether they are claiming copyright on an expired image. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 14:17, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
US Copyright Office. There's still a vital problem, was the image taken prior to 1963? If it was taken later, the copyright would not have lapsed. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 14:24, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to the mirror, the photo was taken in 1964. I'm afraid that it is gone for good. :( ˉˉanetode╦╩ 14:27, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You might be able to persuade Corbis to allow for a limited Wikipedia-exclusive license, but they would never agree to license it under the GFDL. The bigger concern becomes consideration for replaceability. Since procuring a free-license photo of the Beatles is next to impossible, I think this is a good case for a fair use claim under Wikipedia policy. If a fair use claim were made, almost any portrait of the Beatles would qualify. (There is a possibility that this photo is in the public domain, but it is difficult to verify.) ˉˉanetode╦╩ 14:43, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Entertaining-mr-sloane-poster-1970.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Entertaining-mr-sloane-poster-1970.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:47, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:History Portal Featured Candidate requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes.

WikiProject Musical Instruments roll call

[edit]

Please remember to mark your edits as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Madder! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 144 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

License tagging for File:Mark-twain-opens-kensalriselib-thumb.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mark-twain-opens-kensalriselib-thumb.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:08, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as:

is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the image, and it will be more informative to readers.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

[edit]

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Mark-twain-opens-kensalriselib-thumb.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Melissa Cross requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://voicefoundation.org/events/world-voice-day/scream/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. eπ/💬 01:18, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
