If you'd like to know what's going on in regards to the internal workings of Wikipedia from an experienced user, here's an insight into the unwritten rules of this place.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Please see the "discussion" section on Hewitt's page. The info about her ancestry is almost certainly wrong, coming from unreliable websites like the IMDB. Vulturell 01:34, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edit to New England Patriots

[edit]

For your information, I reverted your edit to this article. The official name of the city is Foxborough. Still not convinced? You might want to check out the official web site of the city: http://www.townfoxborough.us/ Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 01:15, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's hardly "fucking around" as it improvement. Dispensable stockpiling information doesn't necessarily improve an article. I've already stated my suggestions on the Mancow's Morning Madhouse talk page; If you feel the article truly possess a professional and polished tone rivaling that that of a post high-school graduate, contact a veteran or experienced Wikipedian and ask them to read the article. Also you may find it incredibly helpful to view a page's [1] for rationale regrading why a certain portion was deleted. Quite frankly, this game of Cat and Mouse is getting rather redundant. --ShadowJester07 07:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Cowboy ray.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cowboy ray.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Unspecified source for Image:Turd the bartender.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Turd the bartender.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Wisden17 20:15, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD Nomination: Turd, the Bartender

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem to me that Turd, the Bartender meets these criteria, I have started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turd, the Bartender. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, an administrator will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. --Wisden17 20:30, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Al Roker Jr.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Al Roker Jr.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

RE:Image

[edit]

Hmmm, did you add the licensing tags? Usually, you can always use {{promotional}} tag. However, when uploading the file, Wikipedia doesn't give you that option - and if you forget to add it, the "OrphanBot" will assume that it s stolen . So When your uploading the file, select a Random tag like "Sporting event". When the file is uploaded, edit the page, and change the tag to promotional. --ShadowJester07 02:16, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Try re-adding them now, I think I fixed the licensing tags on them. In the future, just add the following to ever image.
==Licensing==
 {{promotional}}

Just make sure you don't leave all those spaces by the left margin (I left them so it makes that box thingy. And always remember to remove the {{Somewebsite}} {{no license|month=August|day=9|year=2006}} tags, those just prompt Orphan Bot to tag it for deletion. --ShadowJester07 00:03, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Nicole Oring, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, article #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 18:06, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You wrote: <<Nicole Oring is a model and actress who deserves notoriety on Wikipedia since she has performed in fromnt of the camera.>> There are thousands of models and actresses in the world, including thousands with their own webpages. You haven't asserted why Ms. Oring is a notable model or actress. Also, you need third-party sources (not just Ms. Oring's website and a fan site) to verify her notability. Thanks, NawlinWiki 18:15, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:William Hainsworth 01.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 23:39, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Mancow

[edit]

I have not checked out that page in quite some time, as I dropped it off my watch list some time ago. The "Mancow's Morning Madhouse" is missing a lot of stuff, while the Muller's actual article has been left in tact for the most part - unless there's something I can't see. However, the line "He has claimed to be a libertarian at times. However, he has also described himself as a "conservative, Bible-thumping radical who curses" sounds like someone was trying to antagonized Mancow. For one thing, I'd recommend to vote against the merge on the talk page, as Mancow himself and his show are two different topics. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  00:51, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Chicagoland

[edit]

I don't know if you are aware, but people who were born and raised within the city limits find the term "Chicagoland" annoying. It is viewed as a suburban phenomenon, invented by the Tribune (ugh) and used by advertisers and people who live on the outskirts of the metropolitan area when they want to cloak themselves in the glory of Chicago. Also, the usage is un-encyclopedic in many cases, because it means that the writer does not know which suburb somebody lives in. Finally, Chicagoland is too amorphous to be used with precision. For example, some people do and some people don't include Rockford in Chicagoland. The federal gov't precisely defines the Chicago metropolitan area, and expands this definition using demographic parameters when warranted. The term Chicagoland is also too limiting. For example, if a rock band plays "in the Chicago area," they could have had a gig in Madison, Wisconsin. If they play in the "Chicago metropolitan area," that means "urban, and near Chicago." If they play in "Chicagoland," that means "mostly the suburbs," which is uncool, to say the least. Thanks for your concern about my edits. Speciate 19:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Menatwork.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Menatwork.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:39, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Freak1.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. Hi Maddawg1967!
We thank you for uploading Image:Mancow logo2.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. To the unblock patrolling admin, did I do summick wrong? And note this from Maddawg's email: "Please also simplify further unblocking instructions. I do not know computerese and I am not a rocket scientist." -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 19:05, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
  3. If you are still blocked, copy the {{unblock-ip|...}} code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section. This is usually hidden within the "What do I do now?" section. If so, just click the "[show]" link to the right hand side to show this text.
  4. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page and click save.

If you are not blocked from editing the sandbox then the autoblock on your IP address has already expired and you can resume editing. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 21:04, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

State radio lists

[edit]

I'm not against the addition of this information, but you are not adding it to the table improperly - you are creating a blank column to the right of the table that does not belong. I'm not going to go through and clean up after you by finding how and where you're making said column, so it has to be reverted. JPG-GR (talk) 07:01, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Maddawg1967! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 317 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Irma Blanco - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
