Well, if you need to know...

British/Irish Collegial Banner
Because if you want something, you gotta ask ... and for your patience, willingness and openness at co-operating on difficult things to do with "these islands", the "six counties", "countries, provinces, regions", and a whole lot more despite (or because of?) your own perspective. RA (talk) 18:12, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I like the design. Maybe that should be the flag of Northern Ireland... Everyone wins! JonCTalk 19:05, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I don't think it'd be a very successful one considering how many people loathe at least one of the flags in it. Mabuska (talk) 19:15, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm only kidding. I'm quite partial to this one, m'self. No crown, no six pointed star, a symbol (the red hand) both communities claim as their own... perfect. JonCTalk 19:21, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Congrats on the star, by the way. You deserve it much more than I do! JonCTalk 19:22, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Funnily enough i've always envisaged such a flag for Northern Ireland. It is based upon the flag of St. Patrick (possibly a flag that represented Ireland itself before that), and the symbol of Ulster on it, along with a six-sided emboss (six counties). Would be a good flag imho. Mabuska (talk) 19:43, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I've no aversion to the six-pointed star myself, but when you've got loyalists flying Israeli flags to counteract the republicans' Palestinian ones it's probably not a good symbol for any future flag. The hexagon deals with that nicely, I thought. JonCTalk 19:46, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
The six-pointed star in the Ulster Banner allegedly represents the Star of David so the connection is not lost there, however it's ironic the loyalist/republican situation in regards to Israel/Palestine. As far as i'm aware Israeli terrorists (before the creation of Israel) killed more British soliders than Palestinian terrorists ever did (if any)... Mabuska (talk) 19:56, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I'd never heard that – I always thought the resemblance to the Star of David was purely coincidental? I know there are/were Ulsterman that consider(ed) themselves to be some kind of lost tribe, but they've always been on the fringes. You're right about irony there though; this lot were notorious. JonCTalk 20:06, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
There are some Christian's here that believe the Ulster Banner and even the Red Hand of Ulster are directly inspired by the connection to ancient Israel/Judah and to a son or descendant of Moses. Mabuska (talk) 20:32, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Whatever floats their boat. King George VI and his grandma believed they were descended from the ancient Israelites, so they're in good company, at least. JonCTalk 20:37, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Howth gun-running / rifle comparison

There is no source, the facts are there in all the linked articles. Just nerdy scientific reality.86.42.192.6 (talk) 21:01, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Howth gun-running / rifle comparison

There is no source, the well-known facts are there in all the linked articles. Just boring nerdy scientific reality to enhance that page.86.42.192.6 (talk) 21:04, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Whether its well-known facts or 100% factual, it could still violate synthesis and original research unless the actual claims in regards to the Howth gun-running are citable. Mabuska (talk) 14:47, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.
