In addition, you can sign your name in talk pages and voting by typing three tildes (~~~). Four tildes (~~~~) signs your name and also displays the date which you signed your name. If you have any further questions, please see Wikipedia's help pages, add a question or comment to the village pump, or ask me on my User Talk page. Thank you for signing up!

BTW - Please don't take my vote to delete your presidential candidates templates the wrong way (and, from the current looks of the vote, they won't be deleted). We've had an issue for a while where the guidelines for when to use a navigational template (such as yours) vs. when to use a category vs. when to use a list are not clear. Some folks (including me) object to the "visual clutter" induced by stacking up several of these at the bottom of an article. Other folks (presumably now including you) don't mind. I agree that navigational templates are VERY useful (I've created dozens of them). If I can get a discussion about this issue going, please feel free to participate. And, again, welcome! -- Rick Block (talk) June 30, 2005 02:56 (UTC)

Edward VIII image

[edit]

Hey,

Love the new picture of Edward VIII. One thing though. We need all pictures to be sourced so that we know their copyright status. We could claim {{fairuse}} possibly and be able to use it. If it is {{CrownCopyright}} it is a bit more complicated. Could you give information as to where it came from? Unsourced images, and certainly one with no defined copyright status, are routinely deleted to protect Wikipedia from being sued from breach of copyright. It would be a pity if this good one was deleted on that basis if we were legally able to use it. We need to be able to know if we can. Slán FearÉIREANN\(caint) 01:39, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Paul vi.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Stan 06:01, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Edgarportrait.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Rossrs 09:17, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Elizabeth II 80th.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Elizabeth II 80th.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fair use rationale for Image:Edward-viii-sm.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Edward-viii-sm.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Thank you. Fred-Chess 13:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Monaco-louis2.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Monaco-louis2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore will not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.
  • To opt out of these bot messages, add {{bots|deny=DASHBot}} to your talk page.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
