Dave the Chameleon

For what it's worth, I think the Dave the Chameleon article was worth doing, and it looks like you tried to make it unbiased and neutral. I don't know if it'll get deleted or not, but you have my support. I think the chameleon jokes are now probably going to be around for about as long as Cameron is, so I reckon it deserves its own article. All the best. KrJDub05 15:05, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi - I looked at AfD, and saw lots of articles about Jewish Summer Camps - and though of brigning them together into articles, state by state like Jewish Summer Camps in Maine. I just copy and pasted from the previous articles for that one. Is it alright to do this, or is there a specific procedure, and is it worth continuing with other states?

thanks Martinp23 19:48, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi! The image you uploaded from the commons to this page was of a golden crowned sparrow, not warbler, that was uploaded with the wrong name. Please see that article's talk page for more info! Sabine's Sunbird talk 17:52, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry - ive asked for the page to be deleted from commons to avoid the confusion I suffered! Martinp23 18:44, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

The page has now been deleted - it now won't come up in the lists of articles needing images from commons. Martinp23 21:10, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Welcome message placement

Hi! Thanks for welcoming so many new users! I just wanted to let you know that it's customary to place welcome messages on new users' talk pages, not on their user pages. Just something to be aware of. Thanks! —Caesura(t) 18:30, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I PLEAD NOT GUILTY!

Dear sir, I did not vandalize. That page was created by my friend and he asked me to fill in more information because I am an expert on fagatrons. Let me put it this way so you understand. Grafiti is vandalism. But if a friend asked you to help him paint his house, it is not vandalism. Thank you. 12:10, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps you were hasty...

Well done for getting used to wikipedia so quickly. I was referring to the edits I did in the context of the article (to be honest I didn't want to research too much by going through your talk page history), but I think your comment above does underline the fact that third opinion was the only real way forward. As of just now, I've merged the pages in the direction of the consensus, so I hope this is OK. Thanks Martinp23 20:30, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Good job on the re-merge. It might be helpful to explain the significant difference between the work you have just performed and how it differs from the incomplete efforts regarding connectivity and orphaning of articles to Nscheffey. I have doubts that he has a complete understanding of my half of the disagreement you have just resolved. Thanks. Ste4k 20:35, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
  • My apologies. It appears that I spoke to soon. Your efforts have deleted major portions of the other article. This was probably unintentional, but it does underscore the reasons that I had mentioned earlier in discussion regarding a split and POV fork. Ste4k 20:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Barcid page

Hi, Martin, I think you have me confused with someone. I was trying to revert some vandalism on the Barcid page and I got some warnings from you. Could you revert them from my talk page, please? Thanks! - Tapir Terrific 23:04, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! - Tapir Terrific 23:06, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: your message: No problem! I figured it was something like that; I just didn't want to remove the warnings from my own page, because even if it's a mistake, it seems like bad form. See you around! - Tapir Terrific 23:09, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Confusion

Hi, when I opened wikipedia, I have seen an warning from you for IP 203.189.231.5 for the vandalism in Sadiq Public School, Bahawalpur. As the message was shown to me as new message, possibly it is my IP. But Please note that I have never changed anything on that page!. And whenever I edit, I use my username and not do it anonymously. I am using a computer from inside a LAN, and possibly anyone else using the same NAT will have the same IP. On Any Confusion, please Conact me on my user page. Thanks. Sayutee 03:11, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes I saw that message before logging in. Its surely someone else inside the same network. Anyway, thanks for replying :). Sayutee 11:22, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

vandalism warnings

G'day Martin,

I appreciate what you're trying to do, but this is way over the top. Yes, Tiorted needed to stop creating empty placeholder articles, but "it is considered vandalism" is so much marsh gas. Please consider one of the many better, more appropriate words the English language has to offer before reaching to that ever-handy placeholder "vandalism" — it's offensive to old-timers and confusing to newbies. Vandalism is vandalism; creating empty placeholder pages is creating empty placeholder pages. "It's annoying" would suffice, I think, rather than drawing a long bow and invoking the "vandalism" bogey-man when it's not necessary. Thanks, fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 15:32, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

my user talk page

Er,what happened there? My talk page was vandalised, I reverted it, it was un-reverted and now it has been re-reverted to the way I reverted it. It's all very confusing (and no doubt gramatically incorrect). Oh, and a warning got put in there somewhere. Could you please tell me what happened here?

Thanks Lurker 12:14, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your prompt reply. I see what happened now. Lurker 12:26, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

stop

your comments on the battle field 2 page have been abusive and personal insults this is not following wikipedias guide lines with comments like "poorly written" that is a personal attack and I found it insulting so please refrain from doing it. I am a respected member of the wikipedia community and i am ashamed to think that an admin has been fooled by sock puppet vandal accounts such as General Oumrov who are determined to get me banned because i reported them to admin and they were given a warning. I will be requesting your admin be removed or you at least given a warning because I believe your behaviour to be completely inappropriate for admin. --Hunter91 16:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

ok i will take this instace as a missunderstanding.--Hunter91 17:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi - I noticed that you removed some comments from the AfD for Battle Field 2 - there's no proof that the users in question are sockpuppets and they haven't been banned or similar. If you have a true reason for thinking that either of the two users should not be able to vote, you should leave the votes where they are and below the last vote write:
  • Comment Whatever the problem is here

With the bullet points and the emphasized "Comment". It's best not to delete votes as it can give the wrong impression. Martinp23 17:40, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

i am beginning to become anoyed with your intrussive and frankly anoying methods of putting your points across if you had even bothered to look and back up your claims the users i delted their votes have been given several warnings and are recognised as vandals by many admin which you are not, they are currently in the process of being blocked for being sock puppet acounts. i would thank you if you no longer leave comments on my page as i no longer belive you to be a good member and frankly you are becoming an anoyance. --Hunter91 18:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

(not a user)

Thanks for leaving the message on my talk page. What do I do when I don't know how to find the requisite information to prove relevancy? I know that the band whose article I submitted had a hit with significant radio play, but I don't have any way to show the playlists of radio stations from 8 years ago. I also don't know where to find past Top 100 charts week by week to prove whether a song made the charts. I wish Wikipedia would allow a page for articles that don't have enough information, but that aren't inappropriate (i.e. advertisements or attacks) in and of themselves! Since Wikipedia is meant to be a comprehensive encyclopedia, it would be nice to err on the side of inclusiveness versus exclusiveness. 18.139.5.197 20:00, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

What have you done?

hi there! nice havin you on my page. saw what you did on the spy kids page i was drafting for my movieworld link.

what i created is totally different on what you have redirected. i appreciate whatever you're trying to do, but i am about to do something else. did i violate any rules or what? i need an answer on my talk page ASAP. if i need you help, id ask for it okay. don't bother doing the redirection again please, i dont need it. sweet n pretty bratzynella 00:51, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

It's okay now

Thanks to the change that bluevalour did. he merged the article from spy kids with my pics. i was planning to make several diff links for each part yet i kinda liked it. i believe i'd let it that way for now until such time when i can add a few articles up. thanks guys! sweet n pretty bratzynella 01:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know - I thought that the title of the page was a typo and that you'd thought there was no article on spykids, so I made it into a redirect. Thanks Martinp23 10:44, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

In the future, you'll find the process is much easier if you just click on the "move" tab at the top of the screen to move an article to a new name. This accomplishes the same steps: Moves the article to the new title and creates a redirect at the old title. The big difference, and very important to Wikipedia procedures and GFDL, is that when you use the "move" function the edit history moves with the article, rather than staying at the old redirect location, so it can be viewed by anyone looking at the page. (The importance of the history in GFDL is discussed in WP:GFDL#4. MODIFICATIONS.) Fan-1967 13:11, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for telling me. Just after I'd done my copy and paste and redirect move, I thought hat I should have tested the move thing (I've never used it). I'll be sure to use it in future. Thanks Martinp23 13:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I've tried to fix the problem by making a page move with the previous version of the original page to St Bernard's Catholic School, Buckinghamshire and then make the page I made incorrectly into a redirect to that. thanks Martinp23 13:29, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Vandalproof is a semi-bot

This doesn't make any sense. Also, note that that talk page says, at the top, "No more Vandalproof warnings". --Cyde↔Weys 13:43, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I am worried now that my English must be slipping again. Seriously. This is not a comment on only your reply. But I would appreciate it if you went back and read our conversation again. Thanks. Ste4k 03:59, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I received your message and am happy that has been cleared up between the two of us. On another issue, however, I'd appreciate your attention. In the RfC that has been brought up at Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Ste4k you have signed your name under the heading that reads: "Users who tried and failed to resolve the dispute". The person whom has created the RfC, Will Beback, describes the remedy of his "dispute" to be that I contribute in a non-confrontational manner. The issue about Greek Statues was a one sided affair in my opinion. I never disputed any merge, only that it be performed properly and in full. If anyone, I was the least confrontational in that discussion, and the discussion itself was resolved, i.e. is not an open issue or problem. After my response to the RfC, the user himself has become very confrontational, and nearly hostile in a forward attack upon my integrity. Please see the conversation on my talk page at: User_talk:Ste4k#Curse_hoax. In that conversation he implies that I do not even deserve the assumption of good faith. This appears to be a very important issue to him, but it is also a brand new dispute in my opinion. He has never before raised this matter with me in any regard. As an undersigner in the RfC, you are stating that you have tried and failed to resolve that dispute. It is on the basis of those signatures that he has himself determined that this RfC was credible. Please see [1]. I would appreciate your confirmation that this was your intention in signing that dispute (one way or the other); that you endorse that you have tried and failed to resolve the dispute about a hoax before Will brought the matter up for review to the community, and that you found me to be confrontational and in need of remedy (i.e. specifically in regard to the discussion on my talk page). Thanks. Ste4k 19:44, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi - I feel that I tried and failed to resolve the (minor) dispute at greek statues. I was asked to help through WP:3O and feel that I tried and failed to resolve disputes on that page. With regards to the revert especially, though I found consensus and carried out the merge, you reverted it for about 10 words that I excluded accidentaly, without mentioning why you had taken such steps (I appreciate that you may have been busy, but then surely the revert could have waited, or you could have told me what I had missed). Another reason I feel that I "tried and failed" was that I noticed your lack of faith in the WP:3O process, immediately disagreeing with my comment which addressed the question set at 3O. I hope this clarifies matters for you (PS - I will be on a wikibreak (a course) from first thing tomorrow morning (GMT), so may not be able to reply to any messages left, but please don't let that stop you leaving message, as I'll respond as soon as I return. -- Martinp23 20:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
I am considering taking the matter of this RfC into arbitration and would like for you to reconsider your signature as undersigning of Will Beback's dispute about a hoax. Specificallly that by undersigning his RfC, that you are attesting that you were a party to that dispute before he brought the matter to the community. Please see the criteria in that regard, this conversation on my talk page, and further review the RfC in question. Thanks. Ste4k 21:49, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi - my endorsement is of the opinion put forward of your behavoir across the whole of the prject (see the RfC talk [35]), so I will be leaving it where it is. As a point of note, I think it is only proper that I leave my ensorsement where it is because I authored the section on Greek Statues etc.. Please don't look at the RfC as a personal attack, but rather as an honset opinion of the community. The RfC is not about a "hoax" as you mentioned above, but rather about editors' opinions of your behavoir across the whole project. (In addition, I don't feel that Nscheffey was a stalker of you...) Martinp23 22:11, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Arbitration Request Filed

I have asked for abrbitration involving User:Nscheffey. See here. Please post any comments you desire to add. Ste4k 08:58, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

You wanted a quick explanation

I'd like you to consider the speed at which you required of me a quick explanation for your questions regarding a particular 3PO that you mediated. I hope that a portion of this discussion with Will Beback will provide you that answer as well as explain how/why the question you had asked could not be answered quickly. As a co-signer on an RfC that has effectively banned me from working on WP, I hope that upon your return from your real-life recreational activities that you at least reply to my message here on your talk page. Thanks. Ste4k 20:11, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Martinp23, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Your AfD

My personal standard for RfA is over 2000 edits. You now do, just. But, I would have expected that at the beginning of the RfA, not during. Also I'm uncomfortable with discussion about changing a vote while the RfA is ongoing, as yours is. Most people would wait untill after it's over before asking people about changing their vote next time, it makes the candidate look like they're campaigning which is against the spirit of the RfA. Continue your good work over the next three months and I would see no problem with supporting you then. Ifnord 18:11, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

For your RFA I graded you as inexperienced. This means wikipedia has not been explored to it's fullest, for instance images, and the village pump. Therefore you would have a tough time refering, explaining, or helping others editors if such problems came from such areas. Your Wikipedia talk edit count was only 2. Wikpedia is a community, as well as a encyclopedia. Try working harder and maybe you can get barnstars or other awards from working on this project. I encourage users to go for the featured article or the article that is posted on the main page of the Wikipedia website. Only the best articles can be placed there. Thank you for helping Wikpedia. --Masssiveego 03:51, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for your nice note on my talk page! It served as a nice reminder to encourage me to use the edit summary more often. Cheers! Medtopic 21:15, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you for nominating me Martin. I have now accepted :) - Glen 06:22, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

We found a reference. According to this article, Reed's company is one of the largest recruitment companies in the UK. --HResearcher 07:41, 16 August 2006 (UTC) ==

Megaproject

What's wrong with the latest version (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Megaproject&oldid=69979013) of the Megaproject article that you'd consider it vandalism? --Krakfly 09:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

I would say the new version is a major rewrite, wouldn't you? --Krakfly 09:25, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Reversions

Can you see this? I am not too versed with wikipedia. Why have my edits been reversed? 68.215.242.198 20:23, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you!

I appreciate the Barnstar. When I saw that I had a new message, I figured the author of one of the books I AfD'd was out for blood. I was pleasantly surprised ;). -Elmer Clark 04:59, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

this link [2] which I started working on about a month ago... at the time he said he wasn't ready so I didn't go very far. I'm fine with you guys running with it if you want, or would be happy to co nom... LMK. ++Lar: t/c 20:39, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

(refactored) Hi, You beat me to it - I was just about to go to the history of Eagles nom to see if I could find out what your username was. I was just about to ask you to co-nom - I think Eagle was worried that he didn't meet the standards of many users, but he does (!), so I think I might have persuaded him (touch wood), though he's still reserving the right to decline. Having you as co nom would almost certianly help to keep Eagle happy with doing an RfA, so if you're will, then please do - thanks :) Martinp23 20:43, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Sure, whatever works. I'll put a conom in and move his protoquestion answers over so they aren't lost. I like his candidacy because he's a tool smith and we need more of those. We can keep talking here. ++Lar: t/c 21:03, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah - that'll be great thanks. I can really see him easily getting admin status - as long as it's obvious that he's more of a wikignome, then nobody can really demand 1FA or the like. Thanks again Martinp23 21:44, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Admin?

Hi, are you an admin? BlueValour 23:52, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

The guidelines are clear 'Non-administrators may only close decisions which are unambiguous "keep" decisions'. This was /not/ an unambiguous keep. BlueValour 00:07, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Also see: "Non-administrators may also close the other variations of "keep" such as unambiguous "merge and redirect". " - this was an unambiguous redirect, not requiring admin involvement and not requiring AfD.
Nope, not unambiguous, I want it deleted first. BlueValour 00:17, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Please see the AFD page for reasons why it shouldn't be deleted. By the way, why do you want the page deleted? Martinp23 00:18, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
A merge/redirect is an editorial decision that the creator can reverse. A delete/redirect he cannot. You made a mistake. Accept it and move on (I am not commenting further on this; it has wasted too much time already). BlueValour 00:24, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Your RFA

Hi! Your RFA did not receive the required level of support needed for promotion so I had to fail it. Your edit count seems to be low, so hang around more in WP, and give it a shot after a few months. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:17, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

If you don't agree with Cyde's block, it's best to take it up with him. In this case I think my block was a bit short. I will go the middle route and block him for 24 hours instead of 48. If you still don't agree with that, please take it up with Cyde. - Mgm|(talk) 18:47, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to the AMA! :-)

Hello, I'm Steve Caruso, the Acting Coordinator from the Association of Members' Advocates.I just recieved your message, and I wanted to welcome you to the AMA! :-) I'm absolutely thrilled to see another editor who is up for the challenge of helping out our fellow Wikipedians resolve disputes. Every once and a while a case can get tricky, but in the vast majority of situations each problem is usually resolved by simply being a good listener and the experience is ultimately rewarding. :-)

Taking a look at what you've done to your userpage I see that you've read over our instructions for joining the AMA and I assume you've looked over the Guide to Advocacy and the AMA Handbook, so you're far ahead of the game. If you come across any tidbits that you think should be in them, be bold. :-)

At this particular point in time, we have actually abolished our backlog (I cannot believe that this has happened :-) ) so there aren't any cases that need immediate attention. Where you could be used most is over at our Meeting page, where we are discussing where the AMA currently is and where we see it going in the future.

If at any time either on or off a case that you have a question or come up against a problem, please don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page. Think of me as the "phone a friend" lifeline on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" only I'm available as many times you need me, so don't feel awkward. :-)

Once again welcome and good luck! :-)

Looking forward,

אמר Steve Caruso (desk/AMA) 14:25, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

GIen's RfA: Thank you!

Martinp23 for your Support!
I I feel truly humbled & honored by your support in my RfA, which closed at 90 / 5 / 0. Thank you! If you need me for anything, just say the word. For now however, just like Mr Potter here:
My mop & I shall thwart all evil :)
IThank you once again my friend. GIen

PS: YES YOU'RE RIGHT HARRY POTTER USES A BROOM! (BUT GOOD MOPS ARE HARD TO FIND!!)

Well well well - the man that started it all. THANK YOU MY FRIEND. To go out of your way to nominate someone you barely know speaks volumes of your character. You, my friend, are one in a million. Can't wait to return the favor fairly shortly :) Thanks so much, and I owe you one (ok, 90 I guess!) Your mate, - GIen 04:51, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Lancashire

Hello Martin. The "Real Lancashire" I refer to is Lancashire as it was prior to local government re-organisation in 1974. This might otherwise be known as the Historic County of Lancashire. It includes the detached Furness Peninsula, or Lancashire North of the Sands. I was born there. Since 1974 Furness has been in the Administrative county of Cumbria. See Friends of Real Lancashire. Cheers. Arcturus 19:59, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Good idea about the user box. I've amended it as you suggested. The link from Lancashire is now to FORL rather than History of Lancashire. Arcturus 21:14, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Tally ho!

Thanks for updating the tally on my RfA and for supporting it, but may I say that you used a most witty edit summary - if you have no objection I'll start using it for my tally updates :D —Xyrael / 16:01, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Rod Zimmer

Hi there, I put in the code you gave me for Canadian politicians above the deletion tag on Image:Rod_Zimmer.JPG. I no longer need the File:R Zimmer.JPG photo (the second one I uploaded). I finally managed to upload the picture to his site, thanks to all your help. Very much appreciated! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zimmer-assist (talkcontribs) . 15:18, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

AfD Article

Thanks, I don't know what happens when it is listed for deletion , I guess I will find out in a few days. =Wenzi 15:18, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Teke's RfA thanks

Thank you for your support of my RfA, which has passed with a final tally of 76/1/1. With this overwhelming show of support and approval I am honored to serve Wikipedia in the task charged to me and as outlined in my nomination. Happy editing to you! Teke (talk) 17:08, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Martin! Image:Wvworks.PNG and Image:Wvworks1.PNG were both uploaded under the claim of fair use, however, fair use is not allowed outside the main article space. "For non-commercial use only" and "used with permission" are also not allowed anywhere in the encyclopedia. I'm not quite sure what you should do about it, I'm just warning you that the images may be deleted. —Mets501 (talk) 15:33, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
