Problems with my Editing

[edit]

Anyone has a problem, by all means tell me here, but don't tell me I don't have a right to help edit, nor should you treat me as someone who doesn't know his resources.

Moving, renaming pages

[edit]

In future, please don't move pages by cutting and pasting the content from one article to another, as it messes up the contribution history. If you can't yet use the "move page" function, you can post a request on Wikipedia:Requested moves so that someone else can rename the page without scattering the history. Also, is there any specific reason we want to rename Black mage to Black Mage (character class)? Are you planning on creating a disambigution page or something like that? I'm just curious. --Afluent Rider 09:27, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I am about to do a disambiguation page about them. It said I couldn't move the page because something about "Page already made, choose another" So I had to copy and paste. Got any other suggestions, kind sir?
Alrighty then. I'll make a post on the relevant page to see if I can get an adminstrator to clean up the copy+paste move. Thanks for clarifying. --Afluent Rider 09:32, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also going to do: White Mage, Red Mage, Summoner, and I believe, Blue Mage. I may need some help with there too.--LuvLuv G2000 09:35, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, I'm about to go to bed, so I can't offer much more help right now. If you do come across a page that you can't move, 'tis generally easier if you make your request on WP:RM, and a sysop will move it for you if the move turns out to be non-controversial. Might take a while, though --Afluent Rider 09:38, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, since it appears nobody else has:

Final Fantasy jobs

[edit]

Hello. Wikipedia strives to be a creditable encyclopedia; as such, we are minimizing how much of a fictional databse we become. Don't take offense, but lists of magic and whatnot is almost always considered unencyclopedic. Please see the Final Fantasy WikiProject talkpage for more. — Deckiller 03:37, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not offended, but please do explain to me what in the world you mean, when it was just a simple listing and explanation of what each spell does. Not to mention, a whole listing of where you can find substitution Magic for each Job Class in Final Fantasy X-2. Also, you're telling me when I listed perfect proof that those spell names and info were in fact non-fiction, you're going to claim it is fiction? You're an Administrator, haven't you even played the series?
--LuvLuv G2000 08:07, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We cannot list every aspect of the gameplay; for instance, it's fine to give a couple of examples of magic spells to illustrate a notable point (see Final Fantasy magic); however, WP:NOT and WP:WAF make it clear that the site is not to list everything about fiction (however, we have a Final Fantasy Wikicities/Wikia, where that information would be perfect. see [finalfantasy.wikia.com]. — Deckiller 17:46, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The best thing to do is to link to the respective Final Fantasy Wikia page (Final Fantasy Wikia), which is the final fantasy wikipedia, of sorts. You can list all the details there, because that's the Final Fantasy Wikia's purpose. — Deckiller 23:35, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Debate

[edit]

(SF: Copying LuvLuv's rants over here. Also, I'm a guy. Also, as I note below, the CONTENT part of this debate DOES occur on the White Mage page.)

Stop moving those Final Fantasy Job Class pages. I am making disambiguation versions of the pages. If you keep moving them, I will move them back every time. You wish to discuss about it, discuss it in my message area. Now Stop. As for editing your "Talk" parts, it was a minor courtesy to erase it, since it isn't really necessary and needed.
--LuvLuv G2000 08:11, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You said so yourself, you're not an expert with Final Fantasy, so leave the the expertise to someone who knows what the game is all about. You, just stick to your other religions and whatnot, let me do the Final Fantasy Job Class pages. You want me to stop deleting your "Talk"? Then stop acting as if it's even qualifying as a real "debate". You want to have a real debate with me? Hold it within your own talk (or mine), I'll keep your name on file so I can go back and see. Or you can leave me a message in mine. Just click "Discussion" in my profile. Ok? Don't bring it to the actual pages, because it's looking quite unproffessional. Now, unless you want to sound like an unproffessional, go ahead and keep it up. I can keep moving/deleting it.
--LuvLuv G2000 22:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you bothered to look at the move log, you'll see that I only moved it once, so it was not a continuous thing. I happen to be of the school of discussion and consensus first, which unfortunately you do not seem to be of. User:Axem Titanium was the one who moved the other pages, which should give you a hint that consensus may not be on your side when two other people have reverted your changes. I haven't the faintest clue what your source is for your rant on me knowing nothing of Final Fantasy. I meant that I don't watch those pages or pay attention to them in general. Regardless, I do know something of Wikipedia policy. I'd recommend learning about Wikipedia (or anything, really) before making major changes- the move page warns you outright not to do this without good reason. If you think that the pages should be moved, EXPLAIN what the heck you're doing and perhaps go to WP:RM. That said, our personal talk pages are not the place to hash this out. This is something that you want - let's repeat the word again- consensus on, so a public talk page allows EVERYONE to take part in the debate. I've stated there why your "disambiguation" claim makes fairly little sense. Feel free to explain what you mean by "creating disambiguation versions of the pages." Also, unprofessional?! Have you ever seen the TRUE train wrecks of Wikipedia? Go to Talk:Conservatism or Talk:Scientology or something. It's messy, but that's how WP does business. Also, I wouldn't recommend bragging about your awesome talk page hacking and deleting skills on a site with open editing. If you delete, it can just be brought back... and back... and back.
SnowFire 22:57, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, well that said the stuff can still be deleted, again...and again...and again.... Besides, someone else already beat you to the punch on helping me. I'm still new, so instead of mocking me and what not, why not do what the person above your post did? Offer up some help so I don't do it again. Besides, yeah that does look messy. If I did do something that atrocious, I do apologize. I did not mean to make it look messy.

If you want to move forward and discuss the issue, then great. I'm more than happy to respond in good faith to that. However, I was not snippy for no reason before; while I recognize that you may not have been familiar with Wikipedia etiquette, it is not okay to remove other people's comments from the talk page. That is considered censorship and extremely rude, hence the strong reaction. I hope that we can work better on this issue now at the talk pages.
