Thanks for uploading Image:Firenze_dot.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. minor bug in redirected pages

In popup of a redirect, the target article's history etc. popup does not pops up. Example if i point to WP:RS, it shows redirects to Wikipedia:Reliable Sources(Even in non-dev version). minorIssue#4: Window.onClose = popupsDropdownmenu.reset() please. This is because, even if i close a tab in firefox, it saves all cache for "undo close tab" option. Some 10 tabs it(firefox) saves for this purpose and firefox slowed down a little. Thanks. Lara_bran 06:07, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Quick Question

Help with disambig fixing via popups

Hi, was wondering how I would enable disambig linking via popups with the monobook script I have. I know you have to add popupFixDabs=true; but I don't understand where. i've been reading through you're help pages but they don't seem to mention where to add it. I would also like it, so I wouldn't have to preview the edit first, or am I being a bit thick, and this option (popupRedirAutoClick) is nothing to do with the disambig fixing :-/

An interesting revert

As about five of us were all trying to fix page move vandalism last night (and tripping over each other, and possibly causing one of the two db locks) I tried reverting to the last good version of one of the pages with your script. Much to my surprise... I somehow reverted to the deleted diff text, not the edit by Mattva01. Have you seen this before? Picaroon (t) 19:21, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Admin rollback problem in Lupin tool

Hi. FYI, it appears some of the generated HTML has changed in the Last revision page so the admin rollback is broken. It looks like a <br /> was removed and replaced by spans with classes. I mostly fixed it by changing the regex as seen here but now, if someone else has already reverted, the Javascript message doesn't show their revert summary. I can look further into that later (and after I find a better Javascript regex testing tool) but at least the rollback link itself works. —Wknight94 (talk) 16:00, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Javascript/Template question

I thought you might have an answer to this. Is there a template that I can use that when placed on a page converts into the articles name? for instance if I put {{Page}}(an example) it would automatically convert into the name of the article which it's placed on? Someone Told Me You Could Help

Karmafist, when he was not banned, put something that he said came from you in my monobook entry. I wanted something that could be made to scan a set of dictionarys, references, thumbnail sketches when I dwelled over a word and provide a small window that would vanish when I went to the next word. All he put in there was a translation of the english to spanish. I don't know where to go to modify this because the monobook entry for my name appears to be empty. Can you help me a bit? Thanks. Well, er ok I blanked it, but it is still displaying a translation in spanish everytime I dwell over a word. I want it to find a brief dictionary or geographical location image of the item if I dwell over it. Can anyone guide me a bit on this. Popup persistent toggle switch

For a long time I've been looking for a way to disable the popups beyond the current page. I've searched through the options but haven't found one that does this. So I've made a small script that use a cookie to store the current status of the popup script (on/off). A link with a form checkbox is added to one of the portlets.
I haven't found a way to re-enable popups after disablePopups() has been called, so instead I've chosen to modify a variable used by popupsReady().

So far the only minor disadvantage is that "natural" tooltips aren't restored on links where a popup was shown.

Request for SVG version of image

I noticed this image has an out-of-date PD tag and the source is no longer there. Are you able to give a more specific definition of why this work is in the public domain? When I try to use it on my Windows 98, the tools appear in my toolbox as usual. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

AVT problem?

Hi Lupin, I'm a huge fan of your anti vandal tool, but something appears amiss... it appears to be only picking up punctuation related edits. I tried control shift R to no avail. I looked through the badwords list and didn't see anything that might have caused the problem. I thought at first that someone had vandalized the list to make the tool less useful, but I didn't see any entries that would obviously cause this problem. The tool appears to be functioning as normal, except that now in the feed where it says Article name matched X, instead of X ever being offensive words, it's either a single character repeated, or -, >, |, etc. It does seem as if '>' might be substituting for an offensive word that then gets displayed when you open the diff, but I'm still a bit confused at this change. ~Eliz81^(C) 00:50, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

article history popup

Whenever i visit some article in wikipedia, i wish to give a brief look at the article's history. I have to middle-click history tab for that now, which is cumbersome. I have nav-popups installed, can you change code so that a popup will come up to display history of the particular page im visiting? Like when i point the cursor on history tab button at top (of the article/talk-page im viewing), a popup showing history of that article should pop-up. Thanks in advance. I'm currently using your "filter recent changes" tool, and I noticed that clicking one of the 'test' buttons doesn't do anything except lead you to the person's talk page. I was wondering if there's any way to implement a way of just having to click a test template, with the code filling in the vandalized article's name and all? Personalizing

is there any way to personalize lupin...such as i'd like it when i hit the vand. warning button for it to use {{subst:uw-vandalism2|Article}} instead of what it uses, and the edit summary for that to say, "vandalism warning!" so i can find them easier for myself, on my contributions page, and instead of the page summary saying "(Reverted edits by (name) to last version by (name)) can i make it say "rv vandalism" Ctjf83 03:52, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Popups appear transparent in Konqueror and sometimes also in Safari

When using Konqueror 3.5.5 on KDE 3.5.5 and sometimes when using Safari 3 for Windows, the popups appear transparent; they have no background and mix up with the article text, themselves and other popus in a very messy way. Works too. And at this point it dawned upon me that I had been looking at an older version of popups.js all along :-) You apparently changed the document.write to a createElement and inserted the spaces yourself:

Great, thanks for the detective work! I've removed the spaces from the dev version, so hopefully that'll work now. The odd bug was that the stuff I was document.write'ing sometimes ended up in the edit box, so it then appeared in the article. For example, see [1]. Rollback

When I'm monitoring the the recent IP edits, I click "rollback" to effect a non-admin rollback, but instead of reverting I get a new window with the diff showing. This also occurs if I click "history" or "last" or even the name of the article itself. • I can confirm this one. Roll-back simply takes me to the diff instead of rolling back automatically. Rollback Temporal fix (NON OFFICIAL!)

Ok, for everyone here who has this problem, there is a Temporal Fix available(Non official though!). Out colleague reverter Philip Trueman uses a modified version of Lupin, which can be found here: User:Philip_Trueman/recent2.js. This versions rollback button still functions as intended, along with the other buttons. Philip notes that his version might contain bugs and might not always work, but so far i have encountered nothing that prevented me from reverting. It might not be a perfect solution, but at least it works.

One little addition: don't go bugging Philip if you find bugs. He doesnt know its posted here, and remember that usage is at your own risk, so no complaints either please! --Excirial ^{(Talk,Contribs)} 08:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that, Excirial. My version also stopped working yesterday - it looks as though the RSS feed for Special:Recentchanges now puts some extra stuff on the end of the string holding the article title, and that was feeding in to the URLs for rollback and so forth. It took me a while to sort it out.

This is not the first time this sort of thing has happened. Can anyone say where the developers document functional changes like these? I think we should have been told in advance.

Fair use rationale for Image:Deirdrekenfight.jpg

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. On wikipedia in Catalan, we use translation for special namespace, and popups can not show the IP contributions in ca:Special:Recentchanges. I can remark it in Wikipedia in German, Italian, Polish (and I think there are more) too.

Wikinfo

Fred Bauder just upgraded Wikinfo to mediawiki 1.11.1. I thought it would be nice to have popups over there, so I wanted to check with you about it. I'm not a java scripter, but it seems that it would be as simple as copying popups.js over there, and importing it into a monobook file, and seeing if it works. Is that something you would want to do, or would you have a problem if I tried it? I assume the script is GFDL licensed, but I would want to give proper attribution to you. • I ran a test: Copied popups.js to User:Crockspot/popups.js on Wikinfo, created a monobook.js file with the same import code as used here (substituting Crockspot for Lupin), flushed my cache, and the test failed. This is covered in the FAQ. Please try linking directly to the unchanged wikipedia script as advised there, but be sure to customize the appropriate variables. Hello Lupin, I just realize you edited your anti-vandal tool at User:Lupin/recent2.js. I want to let you know that your updates may not work in IE7 (or previous versions) because I currently use that browser. Hi and there is another problem. When I hover over an image, it reads "image preview failed. install query.php" or something similar, but with the query.php stuff (I can still see the image though). possible bug with pop-ups (disambiguation)

There appears to be a bug with the pop-ups' disambiguation feature. At times, it will disambiguate incorrect links as well as the ones I'm trying to fix. For example, in this edit, it changed the graph coloring link, which was not supposed to happen. Please look into this.

Feature bloat

Popups have just gotten to big and slow for me, so I had to remove them. Do you have a simple compact version. Suggestion for filtering

Can I suggest that there should be a new switch for the filter to ignore a set of sexual words (bondage/lesbian etc) for biogs categorised in various sexual categories, such as those referring to porn? That'd take care of a lot of false results. And if it doesn't already, conversely, it should filter for the addition of such cats to biogs, which would help with WP:BLP monitoring. --Dweller (talk) 10:31, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Launch pop-ups on key command?

I really enjoy your popups tool -- thanks so much for making it available -- but I do encounter two problems with it: 1) it often pops up when I don't want it to, which is annoying, and 2) when I do want it to pop up it takes too long. I thought both of these could be solved with one new feature: a setting where you press a key to cause the pop up. If it was set, no pop ups would appear unless you moused over something and pressed a key (maybe ctrl?). That way, pop ups would never appear by accident and you could cause them to come up as fast as you could hit the control key.

I don't think this should be too hard to implement, just replace the current mouseover/timer set up with an onKeyDown thing. In any event, I hope you'll consider it and thanks again for the great tool! AaronSw (talk) 18:42, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

AntiVandal Tool bug

Image:Lupin problem.jpg was taken by User:Snowolf, but I'm getting the same problem; the tool still works, 'cept it highlights the suspected words as [ and < symbols. One thing I noticed though is that the links to warn vandals don't automatically add the shared IP notice to the talk pages of IPs like when you warn users using Twinkle. Just a little 'U' typo...

Hello Lupin! I seem to have found a repeated mistake on some pages, while I was logged in to my account on Wikipedia. It looks to me like it's a typo in one of the Popups software's strings, and that's why I address this message to you (correct me, please, if I was wrong).

For example, when on  "my talk"  page:, if I hover onto the link: "Post a message to Slaughtre", the popup titled: "User talk:Slaughtre" appears. In that popup's horizontal menu (to the right of the popup's title), I hover onto an item called: "user", and when a "user submenu" appears, I then hover onto an: "edit counter" item in this submenu. If the mouse cursor is left unmoved over this "edit counter" submenu link, the yellow rectangular tooltip appears after a while...

The tooltip says:  "Count the countributions made by Slaughtre", which probably should be:  "Count the contributions made by Slaughtre".

Here are the step-by-step screen dumps of my browser displaying the above mentioned typo:

  The popup titled: "User talk:Slaughtre" appeared.
• 
  Hovered a "user" link to open the submenu.
• 
  Hovered "edit counter" until the tooltip appeared.
• 
  Marked the misspelled word: "countributions"...

The above example describes the "edit counter" link's tooltip typo, on a "User talk" page only, but later I realized, that this behavior is true for all other user-related links in popups, site-wide, so the affected URIs are not limited to the list below:

AVT filters not working

The two filter pages (Filter recent changes & Live spellcheck) are not returning any changes. The framework works fine, but each update returns zilch.

Popups suggestions

As the script now stands (a fascinating tool BTW, great thanks!), when a popup is generated for a link to a section, a preview of the first paragraph of that section is shown; however, if a link leads to an anchor in a page that is not a section, the first paragraph of the article is previewed, not of the linked part. (Sections are preceded by <a name="smth" id="smth"></a> HTML construction, while in most lists entries are surround either with <span id="smth">...</span> or <div id="smth">...</div> tags.) This is also the case with redirects to sections and list entries. For example, compare popups for Art inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien and Alliterative verse by J. R. R. Tolkien (both are "redirects with possibilities", to a section and a span'ed paragraph respectively); Minor places in Middle-earth#A (section) and Minor places in Middle-earth#Aldburg (div'ed entry). Can this be tweaked? (Added 15:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC): looking closer, I see that the popup for the third link shows not the first paragraph, but the first that consists of a text without div tags, but I suppose this is intentional.)

And another proposal. I suppose it would be handy to preview the table of contents in popups for articles; this would cast the light not only on the topic itself, but also on what is encompassed by the page.
