Image copyright problem with Image:Dec 2007 cover Page.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Dec 2007 cover Page.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:57, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Oct 2007 cover Page.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Oct 2007 cover Page.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:34, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Image licenses
[edit]Hi there, I've re-licenced several images from public domain to fair use. You cannot release other people's work into the public domain; you can only do so with works you create. The images affected are:
- Image:Academic Matters APR 2008.PNG
- Image:Academic Matters Feb 2008.jpg
- Image:Feb 2007 cover Page.jpg
Moreover, could you please indicate how you obtained these images (downloaded from web, scanned from original etc.) Thank you. Mindmatrix 22:02, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Deleted image
[edit]I've deleted the October 2008 cover of Academic Matters (Image:Academic Matters OCT 2008.jpg). You attached a tag indicating that you are the copyright holder of the image, and that you release it into the public domain, but I see no evidence of this. Moreover, you've ignored previous warnings to licence images in an appropriate manner. Any other images you upload will be immediately deleted if they do not have correct copyright and source information.
If you have any questions about this, please respond here. Mindmatrix 22:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- I understand the reasoning, but that's not the correct way to do it. You can't assign to yourself a copyright held by another entity, then release it into the public domain. What you need to do is have somebody in the organisation provide confirmation for permission to use the image(s). This is done through OTRS (more info), but you can simply follow the instructions listed at Requesting copyright permission. See the When permission is confirmed section for what to do. Note that this page is a list of instructions for Wikipedians to request info from third parties, but since you're in direct contact with that party, just skip the parts not relevant to you. Read over some of the examples too.
- Note the following: if the image is released into the public domain, then upload it to commons: so that it can be used by all language versions of Wikipedia. If it has some restrictions (eg - limited to fair use or fair dealing permissions), then upload it here at the English Wikipedia. Once permissions are verified and the image uploaded, it will be tagged with {{PermissionOTRS}} or {{ConfirmationImageOTRS}}. If you wish to upload an image before the permissions ticket has cleared OTRS, tag the image with {{OTRS pending}} and/or {{OTRS ticket}}. (If you use the standard upload form, you'll need to edit the page after uploading the image to add these tags.)
- You'll need to do this for every future version of the journal's cover you upload, or provide a blanket permission for this upfront. If the latter, ensure that the organisation has fully considered the legal ramifications for doing so; there may be none, but you'd rather not have to deal with nasty surprises in the future because someone uses the image in a way that wasn't considered.
- I hope this helps, but if you encounter difficulty, try the resources at Copyright assistance. Mindmatrix 01:06, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Aside: you can avoid all the above by uploading the image and adding tags similar to Image:Academic Matters APR 2008.PNG. This will be within a fair use/fair dealing constraint, so the images should be of moderate or low resolution. Mindmatrix 01:12, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- I see you've uploaded the image again. Please note that you need to supply the fair use rationale too. Within that, you need to specify the source of the image (did you scan the journal cover and upload it, was a digital file provided to you by the journal, etc.). I've done part of it for you, but you still need to supply the source. (Note: if you don't supply that info, automated bots may come along and request deletion of the image. I'm just trying to save you from that annoyance.) Mindmatrix 16:58, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Quick note
[edit]Note that I've moved one of your images from File:Academic Matters OCG 2008.JPG to File:Academic Matters journal cover.JPG. I did this to remove the date from the filename, as the newer versions you upload are not from 2008. Mindmatrix 23:40, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
ISSN
[edit]Hi there. I've added an infobox to Academic Matters. could you review the information for accuracy, particularly the ISSN, as I had a difficult time finding it and don't know if the source is accurate? Thanks. Mindmatrix 16:40, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hmmm, it seems the ISSN was automatically linked to a WorldCat entry, which verifies the info. Nevermind, then.... Mindmatrix 16:43, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
