Hi there!
I've added my opinion to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Carlin co-founder Funny Garbage, Red Hot. I think he's worth keeping, but what would really help is info that meets the requirements in WP:GNG. Have a read of that and see what else you have – perhaps an interview in a newspaper, a bigger mention in a book than the access that Google books gives me or more coverage in magazines. They don't have to be online, they just have to exist, so if an editor went to a library in New York (for example) s/he could find the relevant clipping, book, article in hard copy.
Second, you need to be careful with your association with Carlin. Have a read of WP:COI and be sure to be obviously abiding by it!
Best wishes, Bigger digger (talk) 01:09, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I found the ISBN number for one of the books Carlin published (FYI: the other editors of the book all have Wiki pages already) and added that -- I should be able to find the other ISBN number as well. Thanks LorrSG (talk) 19:28, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- No problem. The other editors have sources like these:
- Anything like that for Carlin would be a slam-dunk keep... He must know if he's been interviewed in the press...! Bigger digger (talk) 00:29, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Comment:: The article still needs more work, including clean-up and the conversion of bare URLs to prevent link rot. The incorporation of additional inline citations into the article from the sources listed in the references section would also be a great improvement. Also, the Awards and citations section is currently unsourced, and the addition of inline citations should occur to verify the claims. Northamerica1000(talk) 01:02, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, LorrSG. my response
[edit]Hi Justlettersand numbers -- Thanks for your help. I can assure you that I have no real connection to ATDF -- I've never met Tony -- but a friend of mine is a dancer at the Foundation and asked me to help. (Additionally: my friend is not mentioned at all in the article). All the information I included has been culled from independent web searches. The only exchange I have had with Tony are regarding the images/licenses.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Copyright issue
[edit]Hello LorrSG, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Draft:Tap City: the New York City Tap Festival has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. --Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:51, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for your comments, but I'm not sure what parts you think I copied / are copyrighted. I wrote the entire piece except for the parts that have quotation marks. Can you message me specifics? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
- I've fixed it.
- You had written:
"Over the ensuing eight days, more than 90 performers from all over the world performed including Jimmy Slyde, Prince Spencer of the Four Step Brothers, Brenda Bufalino, Jane Goldberg, Lynn Dally, the Silver Belles and Mr. Hines. Many of the performers also taught classes."
- And the NYT source hard written:
"The roster of more than 90 performers from all over the world includes well-known tapsters like Jimmy Slyde, Prince Spender of the Four Step Brothers, Brenda Bufalino, Jane Goldberg, Lynn Dally, the Silver Belles and Gregory Hines. Many of the performers will also teach classes."
- I do see now that there was an ending quotation mark, but there was no beginning quote mark – though with that it appears to have just been an oversight. But the quote was also changed from the original without any indication. You can't "sort of" quote. You have to be true to the original, use it's exact words, or use ellipses and brackets for any omissions and changes – this changed what a source said. It also changed the tense from the NYT article, written the day before the event, and by doing so, implied it verified what actually occurred, when it was written as what was slated to happen in the future.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:16, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
Ah! I know what happened -- I had the quote as written, but was told it was too much like an advertisement -- so I tried to soften it, but then forgot to take the end quote marks out but leave the reference. THANKS for fixing!
