MOS:CAPS
[edit]Hi. Your recent move of Door into Summer was incorrect. While they spell the title as "Door Into Summer", Wikipedia's rules of capitalization differ from theirs. Prepositions with fewer than five characters are not to be capitalized in titles, and it appears to me as though "into" is being used that way. For instance Amy Grant's House of Love album (and single) is (are) spelled as "House Of Love" (such as at http://www.topchristianhits.org/christian_music_albums_1990s.html) but you can see how Wikipedia has capitalized it. Smitty's album uses the same manual of style: Live the Life. I could give you further examples if you would like. I have nominated the original page that is now a redirect for deletion and requested that the page be moved back. It's easy to move an article to a new destination but more difficult if there's something at the target. I hope you don't mind. Feel free to discuss either here or on the band article's talk page or the album article's talk page. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:39, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- I understand the reason behind the reverts and will freely admit that I jumped the gun on moving the page. Sorry if it caused you much trouble in getting it moved back. That said, while I understand the MOS's position on it, I personally disagree that titles should be changed when the official version is clearly defined. In short, style shouldn't trump correctness. But I'll grant that, in some case, the official title may very well have been a victim of the original publisher's own style guide and is, therefore, a matter of taste. Thus, I will gladly defer on the edits to Door.
- It's not at all so cut and dried, however, when the stated - or simply obvious - intent of the artist goes against the MOS. For example, the Ee_cummings article certainly doesn't follow MOS:CAPS when referencing the titles of some of his works because it was Cummings' specific intent to have them rendered in lowercase. I ask this not to be argumentative but in sincerity since I just received confirmation from Trevor McNevan that I AM THE STORM should, indeed, be rendered in all caps as should the title of the EP, FIGHT MUSIK, VOL. 1. Is the WP stance that it doesn't matter? Curious. LorenLang (talk) 12:55, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
