LF50 ON THE MAP
[edit]Lonie_From_50 has joined Wikipedia Project - AFL
Hi Lonie, welcome to Wikipedia and WikiProject AFL! There is also a cricket WikiProject. Thanks DaGizzaChat © 11:13, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- G'day Lonie, welcome aboard to the AFL project. Take a look at Ben Kinnear on how to insert images, and type: [[Category:Collingwood Magpies players|Cloke, Travis]] for example, under all player profiles. See you around mate, Rogerthat 01:54, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi mate, where'd you get that photo of Frank Raso? Nice digital camera there mate. Rogerthat Talk 09:17, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- Cheers mate, yeah I don't know about the University players, there'd be not much info on them at all (unless you know any 90 year olds ;)), let alone any useful info.
Here's a tip, after you write a message on a discussion page (but not real articles) you write four ~~~~ of those things after your message. I think it just makes it easier to know who you're talking to.
Anyway mate if you know anyone else who's interested in footy, let em know, and keep up the good work yourself. Cheers, Rogerthat Talk 09:31, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Roy Park
[edit]I spose you could move Roy Park to Roy Park (sportsman) (click "move" at the top of the screen), like with Michael Clark (sportsman). As for him being under A, that's because this was written at the bottom of the page [[Category:University Football Club players|Anderson, George]]. I changed it to Park, Roy though. Hope that helps mate.
Cheers, Rogerthat Talk 11:58, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Nice work
[edit]Working beautifully with the articles Lonie. Where's the one on your hero? ;) Never thought I'd see anything on University players but J.Rupert Balfe was again, well done. by the way, in the infobox under dead = it should say "alive" and under image = if there's no image just write "noimage". Cheers mate, Rogerthat Talk 10:33, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'd also like to say you are doing an awesome job. I'm not exactly the best at providing information on profiles but as a fellow Collingwood supporter, I have never seen anybody who has such a detailed account of players like Ryan Lonie. I'm better at general staistics that cover a broader topic. The 2004 AFL Draft was entirely my article, and probably the best example of what I'm capable of. Anyway, keep up the awesome job on all the Collingwood players because it is certainly helping. Normy132 08:36, February 3, 2006 (UTC)
Stubs
[edit]Stubs on this site means "short, incomplete articles". So I'd put the stub on shorter articles, but not the longer ones like Didak and Lonie. Rogerthat Talk 12:37, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Photos
[edit]I've just been told that photos from GettyImages and other sites can't be uploaded due to copyright issues. A bastard I know. Anyway I reckon during the footy season I'll be taking photos of the players and uploading em, you might want to do the same if you've got a camera ;). I reckon I'll take some photos at the next Bushrangers game as well. Rogerthat Talk 02:50, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- Mikey, the difference is that the Getty Images is a commercial business and newspapers and media outlets pay real money to Getty to use the photos that Getty photographers have taken. Getty owns the photos and places copyright restrictions on them to protect their commercial interest. Wikipedia does not pay anyone and therefore has no rights to use them. Getty would be within their rights to sue Wikipedia if we use their images. WP considers this a very serious risk and current policy is to delete any images which are found to be copyright.
- My advice is don't upload any image unless you are certain (ie. have been specifically told they are public domain photographs) there is no copyright. Be aware that generally photos in the media are copyrighted. It makes no difference that you edited the photo by cropping or reducing size or resolution - it's still based on a copyrighted work. Better still, take your own digital camera to the footy or cricket and take your own photos and upload to WP with a {{PD-self}} tag. I suggest you read Wikipedia:Copyrights for more information. Please ask on my talk page if you need more info.
- To avoid the risk of images being deleted, the uploader must attach the correct copyright tag to the images upload page - and you must be honest. Copyright tags are at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Images you've previously uploaded which came from Getty or Cricinfo will have to be tagged for deletion I'm afraid. The one bit of good news though is that images taken in Australia before 1955 are now in the public domain, and can be tagged with {{PD-Australia}}. Your image Image:Balfe.JPG would fit into that category and I've tagged it accordingly.
- Sorry to ramble on, but I thought it's worth clearing all this up before you waste a lot of time uploading images that are only going to be deleted. Regards -- Ian ≡ talk 12:49, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- It doesn't affect players that played before 1955 so we've got that covered. I think I need a new battery (one of those little silver ones) for my camera, and it should be ready by the footy season. Anyway cheers Ian for the info mate. Rogerthat Talk 10:39, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:AMcGrath.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:AMcGrath.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Carnildo or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you.
Delete them, I don't care, think they already have been deleted!
- Dont worry about em mate. I read from Rogerthat that you can use photos you take at the footy though. TheRealAntonius 11:10, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Rogerthat
[edit]G'day Lonie, have recognised your stats work on user pages and think you might want to add your considerable expertise to form articles for AFL Season 2006. See 2005 English cricket season (15-31 May) for examples of how such an article could be created and tell us your thoughts. Cheers, Rogerthat Talk 05:59, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Was wondering your thoughts on creating an Excel file to speed up creating of player articles. Click here to download it and tell us your thoughts... Rogerthat Talk 04:12, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Hahaha, that's great. Send the Excel file my way (will come in handy), to cornuto1 at gmail dot com. Cheers, Rogerthat Talk 05:03, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Damn. I was wondering how you can automatically get the games/goals a player has into an infobox by having many players listed on a workings out sheet. Hard to explain, but let us know if you find a good way to do this. Rogerthat Talk 05:45, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah uni is coming up for me next week as well so I'll probably reduce my editing a fair bit on here. That's a big effort on the Pies article, beautifully done. As for other teams, haha don't worry about those - if there are some other fans out there willing to make a similar article then so be it. You've done a great job as it is :) Anyway everything's set for a big season where hopefully we'll have a lot of info on here - I've done a huge job during the off-season from setting up the entire WP:AFL, making hundreds of player articles, and hopefully as the interest in footy starts up again, we'll get more people interested in contributing. Have a good one mate, Rogerthat Talk 09:12, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

CFC Logo
[edit]Thanks for updating the logo. Not only was it a few years old it is technically against Wikipedia policy. The terms of logo use mean that they cannot use logos that misrepresent the entity. EDIT: Just noted you made a template for my user page, thanks for that mate. Jabso 06:37, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Fair enough mate, I just took a stab at where you might go to lol. cheers TheRealAntonius 10:02, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Just letting you know that User:Harro5 has been cracking down on what he calls "non-neutral point of view". He's cut down articles such as Chris Judd due to the fact that he says "it's not neutral" see the Judd discussion page as well as the talk page of WikiProject AFL for more details (as well as the Australian noticeboard. BTW, I moved Mikey Robinson to User:Lonie_From_50/Mikey_Robinson. Sorry about that but as you know it's against the "rules" (you see how people get upset over nothing on here!) of the site. :) Cheers, Rogerthat Talk 11:18, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
WikiProject NBL
[edit]Hey Lonie From 50
I am wondering if you would like to join WikiProject NBL. I believe that this is something that you might be able to help me with, by creating user boxes and player boxes for it or even adding articles about Players
Cheers
AFL season article naming convention
[edit]As a participant of WikiProject AFL I thought you might be interested in this. I have started a vote to get a consensus on the naming convention for AFL season articles. You can participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject AFL#AFL season article naming convention. Cheers. Remy B 13:17, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Nathan Buckley
[edit]Hey would you happen to know what team Buckley supported as a child if any at all? I am pretty sure it wasn't Collingwood, despite what the wiki article suggests I think it was Geelong or Kangaroos.

Speedy deletion of Scott Burns
[edit]A tag has been placed on Scott Burns requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Lonie From 50! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 9 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 157 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Speedy deletion nomination of Lil Barry
[edit]A tag has been placed on Lil Barry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
