Hi, I have reverted your edit on the Democratic Alliance, because the DA is not a conservative party. They are a liberal organisation (as said on their website). Thank you. LefcentrerightDiscuss 23:40, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

humorous

[edit]

Hi Lonerism20,

thank you for your kind words in the edit summary when reverting my edit of Zimbabwean English. However, it is not that simple: I'm aware of the spelling difference o/ou (e.g. humor / humour) between American and British English. But humorous is a strange exception, it spelled like this both in American and in British English. I took this mainly from WP:Lists of common misspellings/H, but also by some sites found via Google, e.g., this and this. How about Zimbabwean English? I must admit I haven't checked that when I applying my edit. Therefore, I've now tried a Google search in an Zimbabwean newspaper: Entering humourous site:https://dailynews.co.zw/ or humorous site:https://dailynews.co.zw/ in the Google search box in both cases shows only hits for humorous. So, it seems that humorous is correct also in Zimbawean English. I've therefore modified the article again.

Hi Cyfal

Looks like you're right, my mistake! I spent time in both Zimbabwe and Britain before moving back to the US as a teen so I can usually spot the difference. And since you asked, Zimbabwean English almost always follows British English over American English, as do other Englishes from the southern hemisphere from New Zealand to South Africa, though American pop culture and tech companies increasingly affect spoken English everywhere. Thanks for the eagle-eyed edits!

Hi Lonerism20,
Thank you for the compliment "eagle-eyed". It's really confusing that in British and Zimbabwean English "humour" and "humorous" are spelled differently...
