Hello
[edit]I saw your name pop up in my watchlist; I noticed you had a redlinked talk page but also saw that you've been on Wikipedia for two and a half years. As such, it doesn't seem appropriate to put {{welcome}} on your page; instead, hello. :) Acalamari 22:53, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Lisa Spenser. The intent of my message to your talk page was meant as a friendly gesture and nothing more; when I meant "welcome" I was referring to me placing Template:Welcome, a welcoming message for new users, onto your talk page. As for your questions:
- 1. In regards to watchlists, see Help:Watching pages
- 2. "Redlinked" is Wikipedia jargon for a page that does not exist yet For example, linking the words "This is jargon" produce a "redlink" because there is no page called "This is jargon". See Wikipedia:Red link
- 3. It was I who created your talk page, rather than you. I had to create it to post a message here.
- 4. To access your talk page, there should be a "talk" button in the upper-right hand corner of your screen while logged into Wikipedia. You can also type "User talk:Lisa Spenser" into the Wikipedia search engine.
- 5. When you're on a talk page, there should be a "new section" button near the top of the screen. This will create a new message screen for you.
- 6. Wikipedia:Talk pages is useful for information about talk pages. A talk page is so other users can contact you; it's so users can communicate with each other.
- 7. I was going to tell you how to disable your e-mail, but I can't e-mail you and have to conclude that you have disabled it yourself already.
- 8. I can't delete your talk page now that it has been created; user talk pages are generally not deleted and besides, since you have disabled your e-mail (which is okay!) I cannot e-mail you everything I have just said.
- I hope that covers everything and is clear and helpful to you! Again, my initial message was intended to be a friendly note...nothing more, nothing less. Please continue with the work you've been doing; good writers, editors and researchers are always welcome! Best. Acalamari 08:48, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Lisa Spenser, you can have a talk page if you edit from an account or an IP, although it's easier to communicate with an account than an IP: From what I understand, due to the dynamic nature of IPs, people editing anonymously aren't always notified of a new message. When you create a new account, the talk page is a redlink by default until you or another editor creates it. When an IP edits Wikipedia for the first time, their talk pages are also redlinks until someone creates them.
- Again, sorry for how unclear and confusing my original message was. I do agree with your suggestion on how to avoid this in this future, although the funny thing is, I have done that before and have received "This is patronizing! I already know all this!"-type messages in response! :D Ah well.
- Let me know if I can help with anything else; I'm always happy to help and in the event that I can't, I'll pass you on to someone who can. Best. Acalamari 08:46, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
