Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Marc Snir, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.cs.uiuc.edu/homes/snir/, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), versions 1.3 or later then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Marc Snir and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or that the material is released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Marc Snir with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Marc Snir.

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Marc Snir saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Moonriddengirl (talk) 02:14, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Obtained permission from author of http://www.cs.uiuc.edu/homes/snir/ to include content from that website in the article on Marc Snir. Emailed permission to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org. Also identified the article as a biography of living person. I'm still a bit new to Wikipedia, so any tips you have on creating these types of articles will be helpful. Thanks! --Lina6329 11:43, 18 December 2009 (CT)
  • Received a reply from the permissions email with the following info: "Re: [Ticket#2008121810020738] Marc Snir Wikipedia Article". Will this clear up the concern? --User:Lina6329 (talk) 14:50, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • If it had, the person who e-mailed you should have placed an OTRS ticket on the article, but this has not yet been done. Did the individual request more information? If not, you may wish to write back and ask about further steps that may be necessary. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:56, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • They did not request additional info ... just thanked me for the email. I replied and asked them to place an OTRS ticket on the article.--User:Lina6329 (talk) 21:15, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Hmm. Maybe it was an oversight. If you don't get a response within a day or two, please let me know, and I'll see if I can check the status of that OTRS ticket. Unfortunately, I don't have direct access. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:21, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

Hi. I understand there may be some question about the terms of your release. As I mentioned above, I do not have access to that e-mail, for privacy reasons, but please review the letter you received from the Communications Committee member who responded to you. The release should indicate that the material is available for reuse and modification under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.3 and later. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:06, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please make sure you read down to the bottom of the emails. Stifle (talk) 15:10, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi there. Sorry I did not see your request earlier (as I did not scroll down to the bottom). Yes, I am an authorized representative of the copyright holder. This can be confirmed by visiting: http://www.upcrc.illinois.edu/people-faculty.html. Dr. Snir is listed under faculty (with a hyperlink to the content in question. I am listed under staff. As the Outreach Coordinator, I serve Dr. Snir. He is the one that encouraged me to post a wiki article. Also ... Dr. Snir's permission was included in the original email. Please let me know if there is other information I can provide in response to your request. Thanks! --User:Lina6329 (talk) 19:15, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to note that, if you haven't, you should also say this in reply to the e-mail. It's for the paper trail to log permission for future reference. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:23, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since we do not yet have verification of permission by the processes set out above and sufficient time has passed since the placement of the notice, the article has been deleted for copyright concerns. This deletion is not necessarily permanent. If you have already sent a letter to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed by the Wikimedia Communications committee. Likewise, if you have not yet sent a letter, you still may (or resend it, if you believe your original may have been lost), and the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed.

As Wikipedia does not require proof of identity on account creation, it is essential that we receive external proof of authorization in order to ensure that we remain compliant with US Copyright law. It is also essential that we verify that copyright holders understand the extent of the release they are authorizing, in that GFDL permits modification and reuse in any forum, even commercial publication, as long as authorship credit is maintained.

If you have questions about the verification procedure, please feel free to contact me at my talk page. Alternatively, you might address them at the talk page of the copyright policy, which is generally monitored by volunteers experienced in processing such matters. Thank you.
