How do we email thru Wikipedia? Has to do with the Revere article research

Hi, you contacted me about participating in your university research. How do i email you? Also, i wonder how helpful i can be because i really don't remember what i thought and felt during my fairly copious participation in what you are calling the edit war on the Paul Revere article (I actually read whole chapters of several already cited sources). Note that I don't agree with your premise that NOR, V help with solving conflicts. Those policies set minimum quality levels. Wikipedia has 5 pillars which are suitable for most situations. We can cut it down to 3 though. --Kim Bruning (talk) 08:20, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Incidentally, I'd sort of forgotten about the whole episode, so I asked $random_trainee to figure out what I'd actually done. (always fun). As we looked through the history, the whole thing came back to me. This was a really surreal episode:

• Newspapers were reporting an edit war on wikipedia. So I went in and investigated.
  1. There was no edit war
  2. There was some increased amount of Good faith editing by experienced Wikipedians, however.
  3. The page had been semi-protected [edit=autoconfirmed] (indefinite) since November 2010 nota bene!

This is all public information, if you research wikipedia history pages, you can figure this out yourself.

HOWEVER people had been making one error: To wit, they kept removing references to Palin from the *talk page*, stifling communication, and I hypothesize that this lead to a known community antipattern: Meatball:ExpandScope. The situation blew up and ended up in the press.

This is what I've re-uncovered/recall based on the short exercise session I did with a trainee today, so far.

Clarification, there was no edit war; there was just 2 seemingly pro-Palin incidents (which people speculated was at least somewhat an anti-Palin masquerade) of vandalism combined with an original good faith but WP:UNDUE violation edit: [1], [2][3], that caused a push back to actually alter the article to be anti-Palin [4]. Media unfamiliar with Wikipedia's revision history interface ended up reporting content being removed that it was not, because they were unfamiliar with Wikipedia's revision change view such as Slate: [5]. Just because a page is semi-protected does not mean every edit that happens on it is good faith. There are a good amount of POV pushers that remain on Wikipedia by following other Wikipedia rules like reliable sources a good amount of the time. User:K69 was responsible for one piece of vandalism and is now blocked.--Jorfer (talk) 01:55, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
