Z-Class Melbourne Tram
Hi, thanks for the copy edit, but, can you stop removing cited, relevant information per WP:PRESERVE, WP:RVREASONS, WP:COMPREHENSIVE, and a host of others. Sourced, correct, on topic content should not be removed. I am adding content to try to build up the collection of knowledge about areas where not a whole lot is written; having you come through only a few hours after and cutting half of what I just put in is disheartening. And as I have said early, with an edit summary such as 'tidy up' stated it gives the impression that you think what I wrote was shit that must be thrown away; please stop.Liamdavies (talk) 13:50, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
- Just because something is cited doesn't mean it can't be consolidated, phrased in a better way, or deleted where it lacks relevancy. As stated earlier 'tidy up' is an accurate description of the changes made. Its not that what you wrote was 'shit' as you put it, but merely IMO could be enhanced. Yes we can all sit here and endlessly quote from the Wiki project pages, but for the record I will explain the rationale for the changes made.
- 1) With the resignation of Victorian Premier Henry Bolte in 1972, and Rupert Hamer becoming the Premier of Victoria... - a change in premier is not relevant in the context of the article
- 2) It was understood that ASEA would supply the electrical equipment... - best to stick with what actually did happen rather than hypothesize as to what was understood would happen, also the ASEA wikilink is incorrect, should be Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget
- 3) Tenders for 100 trams based on prototype PCC 1041's design were called in 1972, with multiple companies, including Comeng, tendering. - a bit of a given with tendering that multiple parties will bid
- 4) The M&MTB granted Comeng a $12 million contract in 1973...this necessitated much travel - contracts are awarded not granted, the need for travel by staff not really relevant. Also cleaner to combine the calling and awarding of the tender
- 5) Construction started at Comeng Dandenong in 1974, with Dandenong's workforce expanded to cope with the order - With the first delivered in December 1974 can be taken as read that construction commenced in 1974, that a company expands its workforce after winning a large contract is not unusual or noteworthy
- 6) the last of the hundred in May 1978 - hundred should read 100
- 7) As with the Z1-class, many Z2-class trams have been withdrawn - superfluous text should read: Most Z2-class trams have been withdrawn
- 8) in early 1977, Comeng, Siemens, and Ansett's bus division tendered - should be in alphabetical order, Ansett's bus division is Ansair Mo7838 (talk) 21:32, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
- I agree with most of these changes, as I said, thanks for the copyedit/draft, what I object to is removing clauses that show continuation ( like PCC 1041 ), sentences that help to show how large this was for Comeng ( Construction started at Comeng Dandenong in 1974, with Dandenong's workforce expanded to cope with the order. ) and information about why ASEA were chosen. RE: point 8, contracts can be: signed, entered into, enacted, awarded, granted, etc etc, there is no one term. Point 3, usually, although this is Victoria, it's happened before. Also, it's perfectly acceptable to link to a redirect, saying its incorrect is just anal rubbish. But, I don't think you've understood the crux of my complaint: from my perspective you follow my editing and simply send razor blades through it, never contributing much prose at all. Whether that is your intention or not is irrelevant, that is how your style comes off, you should know that, I've complained about it before. Liamdavies (talk) 05:39, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

- How? I am removing text that is clearly not in the public domain. As I said, I have left the text written by NASA, that is fine, but the text I have removed is not okay, it is copyright and protected by law. If that makes me an arsehole, so be it (nothing I haven't been called before). Do you have anything to back up your assertion that any of the text I removed was actually in the public domain? The fact was ... that East Preston tram depot opened at the same time that trams returned to Bourke Street where Melbourne's previous cable tram service closed in 1940? Oceania Systems at List of tram and light rail transit systems
Hi! I've got a question for you! The following systems were added to the Oceania section of the List of tram and light rail transit systems within the past few months: Ballarat Heritage Tramway, Bendigo Heritage Tramway, Whiteman Park Heritage Tramway, and Auckland Heritage Tramway. My question to you is this: Would you happen to know if any (or all) of these systems true "public transit" systems (i.e. operating 6am-evenings, 6-7 days a week)? Or are some (or all) of them more akin to "tourist" systems that operate only seasonally, or not 12+ hours a day, 6-7 days per week? Thanks in advance! --IJBall (talk) 19:13, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
