Loyola Seal

[edit]

Personally, I find the logo more visually appealing. That's really the only reason I changed it. I agree the image was a bit big, but it could have been worse - the original was 1500px wide!

Anyway, I think that the seal image is too "crowded" and color-ridden -- see MIT for what I think is a good example of using a seal in a college's WP entry. The logo was obviously designed for four-color printing and instant identification, and I think it reads better on a computer screen. Plus, since Publications slaps it on anything and everything Loyola, it's a bit more recognized in that form. There's no real standard, though; Hofstra University uses the logo, MIT uses the seal AND the logo, Harvard University uses the shield, and Cooper Union uses a picture of the main building.

Interesting and somewhat related tidbit: they scraped the evergreens off the windows of the student center this semester and replaced them with Loyola logos. Seems like they're really focused on branding. --DCrazy talk/contrib 02:42, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Father mcginnisburg

[edit]

Well, an admin finally found it and deleted it (perhaps because I accidentally posted a warning on Iron's user page instead of his talk page). If a user keeps removing a deletion tag, just post related warning messages from Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace (eg. {{drmspeedy}}, {{drmafd}}). After the "final" warning, post on WP:AIV. — TheKMantalk 01:34, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, in the end I wound up just posting a notice on the administrator's noticeboard Liamdaly620 01:40, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I guess that's what did it then. Keep up the good work, and see you 'round. — TheKMantalk 01:44, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

No problem! I hope you didn't see it, it was quite disturbing :-P --Lightdarkness 23:18, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hah, that's neat. Thanks! --DCrazy talk/contrib 00:22, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great work!!

[edit]

Hi, it is great to see you fight vandalism left, right and center! May I also request you to place appropriate {{test}} messages on the talk page of the vandalising users? btw, I found your vandalism section about League of nations amusing - you may want to move it to WP:BJAODN. --Gurubrahma 06:54, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome and thanks!

[edit]

Thank you for your vandal fighting work, and selfishly especially your reversion of my user page. It's nice to know that RC patrol still works without me ;-) (tries to look important and needed). It seems you haven't been officially welcomed yet so below you will find my standard welcome note:
welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. There are also the help pages for self-help and the village pump and IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance. You should also feel free to ask me on my Talk page.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes(~~~~) produces your name and the current date. Please do not add this signature to encyclopedia articles you may edit, however, even if you have created them. Wikipedia articles are owned by the community, not by any one person. Again, welcome! —WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL07:27, 23 January 2006 (UTC) [reply]

[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism to the Gugliermo Scortella article! Please sign and date your warning notices with ~~~~ so that others looking into vandalism can easily discern the user's history of having been warned. Thanks again for being one of the good guys! --Kbh3rdtalk 06:21, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Another godmode light

[edit]

Hi, I saw your query on User_talk:Sam_Hocevar:

Please wait, reverting edits by undefined... Getting article history (/w/index.php?title=Awesome&action=history&limit=50)... Error: Last editor is 24.92.249.34, not undefined!

I am guessing that you are also running Lupin's popups.js. This is a problem I had a while back, and there seems to be a conflict between the two scripts. A popups friendly alternative is available :-) Although I am surprised you have had it working at all recently, it seems to have been broken for me for some time.

Anyway, you could try this: in your monobook.js, substitute:

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
            + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

with

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
            + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

Hope that helps, if not, let me know as I have a local version that is popups friendly and more up to date than the share.zopatista.com version. --Cactus.man 10:09, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Liam, I will begin reverting the Northern Michigan University website back, Im sorry that I and much of the student body have been using this page as an outlet for our frustration with the university. Or frustrations and actions are not without merit, but I see that this is not the place to unleash them. once again and most importantly I am sorry for using this as a way to contact u but I am not a registered user. I see some of your favorite edits Liam. Very nice......very nice and your abiltiy to appreciate humor shines through.

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

[edit]

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:51, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion warning

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Mike Daly, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

A7

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ElKevbo 00:42, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mike Daly

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Mike Daly, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Mike Daly

[edit]

I have nominated Mike Daly, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mike Daly. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Elonka 21:16, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:MorristownMunicipalAirport.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:MorristownMunicipalAirport.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. De728631 (talk) 17:04, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:MorristownMunicipalAirport.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
