Rajasthani a single language or many?

Hi Lakhan,

I saw your contributions regarding Rajasthani Language in wikipedia, which is pretty impressive. I have one fundamental question regarding Rajasthani Language, which I believe you are in a good position to answer. From a purely linguistic point of view, is Rajasthani a single language or a cluster of related languages?

My understanding so far is that Rajasthani is a actually a group of related languages. Marwari, Mewari, Shekhawati etc are separate enough from each other to be considered distinct languages in their own right. On the other hand your contributions term all these languages (ie Marwari, Mewari etc) as dialects of Rajasthani.

Some clarification on this question is necessary. As you can see, as of now there are two wikipedia articles namely "Rajasthani Language" and "Rajasthani Languages". Ideally there should be only one article, whatever be the status of Rajasthani. Also, Rajasthani languge related articles still require lot of work to come on par with other major language pages.

Urdu script needed
