sorry for late to reply this talk, it's 5 years. 尉 is my family name. In my village, we pronounce 尉 as "Yù". It's not an easy way to show which one is right. in my opinion, 尉迟 should be pronounced as "YùChí", people know where it comes from, and they read it use the pronunciation of ancient Chinese language. while 尉 is not so lucky that keeping the old pronunciation. in modern Chinese language, 尉 is often pronounced as Wèi, This is the reason of why 尉 is a polyphone. I want to keep my family name's traditional pronunciation just like the 尉迟, so I choose Yù. I dont have detailed source that can prove it, I just know it from my family history. by the way, 尉 comes from 尉迟 as one of its sources.
尉遲
[edit]I am aware that 尉 can be pronounced Yù as well as Wèi, but do you have a source that indicates that it is in fact pronounced "Yù" as used in the name 尉遲? information would be appreciated. Thanks. --Nlu (talk) 06:45, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
