Re: Deletion of Julie hrdlicka article
[edit]See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Julie hrdlicka for the results of a week-long discussion over this article. The article showed no evidence of meeting notability guidelines or of meeting biography guidelines. If this situation does change in the future, OR if reliable sources can be produced which establish her notability, then there is no problem with recreating the article. However, do not recreate the article if such independent sources do not exist. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 16:17, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- You should probably read through the relevent discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Julie hrdlicka where the decision was made. It's too bad you didn't comment on the discussion itself; it looks like your comments may have been appreciated there. In general, what is needed to establish notability with regards to reliable sources is INDEPENDENT reliable sources; ones unconnected to the candidate or her party. Basically, there needs to be information availible in sources that have no vested interest in her or in promoting her. Things like newspapers, books, trade journals, magazines, peer-reviewed works, edited websites (not blogs or forums, but online equivalents of print sources) etc. etc. can all be used to establish notability. Also, in general, you should read the Wikipedia guidelines for writing about people, called WP:BIO, which clearly states that generally ONLY politicians who have been elected to major national or provincial/state offices are notable; while candidates who have never held national or provincial/state offices and local officials are generally not notable; this is a general guide, however, as people may be notable for other reasons, or in some cases the scope of their campaign garners enough national or international attention in the press that they become notable for those reasons. The problem (if I remember correctly, as the article has been deleted, I cannot check with it) is that Ms Hrdlicka has not held any national office, and has no other claims to notability than her name appears on a ballot. Secondly, with regards to other deletable articles existing on Wikipedia, well just because no one has deleted another article on Wikipedia that deserves it does NOT mean that this article is excused of its shortcomings. Likewise, just because an article on a person that is CLEARLY notable shares some superficial commonality with this person does not make this person notable. All article's notability is judged independently by measuring it against the standards in notability guidelines like WP:N and WP:BIO. You may also want to readWP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS for more information on this. I am sorry that the article was deleted. If, in the future, independent sources become availible that establish her notability (for example, if she is elected, or if she becomes notable for some other reason), there is no problem with recreating the article at that point. Good luck and happy editing, and if there is ANYTHING I can do to help in the future, don't hesitate to drop a note at my talkpage. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 23:05, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
