[edit]Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ali R. Jaber, (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.
Thank you. —twotwofourtysix(My talk page and contributions) 02:38, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi, thank you so much for this information. I didn't know. I deleted the comment. Next time I plan to make an edit I will do what you said. Im glad you informed me. Other's are busy trying to have articles deleted and you on the other hand told me important information. I'm glad people like you exist. Lebtimes (talk) 02:47, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
This is your only warning; if you make personal attacks on others again, as you did at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ali R. Jaber, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. PRAXIDICAE🌈 18:47, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
She called me dishonest. That is a personal attack and I have screenshots. I will email the screenshots in my report to the board of directors and let them decide. I will aslo show your comment and how you are being unfair. She called me dishonest before hand and I responded. Tony A. Al-halab Lebtimes 18:50, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- It would really behoove you to read the relevant policies being presented instead of going on nonsensical diatribes on subjects matters you do not understand. That's the last I will say. If you write another attack against an editor again, I will request an indefinite block of your account. PRAXIDICAE🌈 18:52, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Subject matters that you don't understand. Do what you wish I have evidence on everything. All it takes is one email to the board of directors with evidence of everything and believe me you will not be happy. You are not in a position to say what I understand and what I don't. I did not start anything and there is evidence. Stop making unnecessary threats. Tony A. Al-halab Lebtimes 18:54, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- That sounds like a threat to me, though you'll be unsuccessful since there is no board of directors involvement in content or editorial decisions, but you do you. PRAXIDICAE🌈 18:55, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
In other words, I will reach out to people who have the power to decide what is fair and what is not. You threatened me before hand and again I responded. She called me dishonest and I responded. It is not hard to reach top administrators and show screenshots of what is happening here. Tony A. Al-halab Lebtimes 18:57, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Question for administrator
[edit]This request for help from administrators has been answered. If you need more help or have additional questions, please reapply the {{admin help}} template, or contact the responding user(s) directly on their own user talk page. |
Can I please have an admin help with the rules on Wikipedia. I am a new editor. I am being attacked and when I respond to the provoking I get threatened. I would like to know what exactly am I doing wrong, if that is the case. Thank you.
I have screenshots of everything that is happening and all I would like is guidance. Thanks Tony A. Al-halab Lebtimes 19:03, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- You are making personal attacks on other editors. This is not permitted per this Wikipedia policy. If the attacks continue, you will be blocked. 331dot (talk) 19:18, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- If others are making personal attacks on you, please report them. Screenshots are not necessary, you may simply provide the relevant edits from the edit history. 331dot (talk) 19:19, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Hello, I approached this admin with nothing but respect on her talk page. As a new editor, I ask for guidance on how things work here. She did not respond in a pleasant way and how I would an admin is expected to respond. I was so nice on her talk page. I ignored her response and just let it be. She then comes to the article in question and gives her opinion and I still did not respond. Today without any reason she provoked and argument and called me dishonest without any reason whatsoever. No one was commenting on the article in question. Out of no where she makes a comment referring to me as dishonest. I responded, and then someone else who was also commenting on that article yesterday comes to my personal talk page and threatened me for responding to the attack. However, this person did not tell the admin who attacked me first to also stop making personal attacks so I thought it was unfair. I'm honestly a very respectful person who loves other people and came here just because I would like to interact with others and write a book about notable Lebanese people. I am not an hostile person. I did not start anything. I felt as they are teaming up on me because I am a new user. Thank you so much for your response. Tony A. - Lebtimes, I am an administrator. Welcome to Wikipedia. I am sorry your experience so far on this project has been other than that which you expected. I can help you, but first you need to drop the threats you are attempting to use and understand that this is a collegial editing environment. The CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation is not going to involve themselves in a dispute over an article on one of the Foundation's many project. The board of directors also will not take an interest in the subject. Please, using such threats (even if empty, as in this case) does not yield a positive editing environment. You might be agitated to hear this, and feel wronged by others and thus justified in your actions. This isn't a question of who said what to you. It is important that you take Wikipedia:Civility to heart. Also, please understand there are no "top administrators" [1]. Please, let's drop the threats and move forward in a collegial manner.
- Now, I understand you are very motivated to have an article on Ali R. Jaber. We have a variety of measures on whether articles are kept on the project. The general guideline is at WP:GNG. We rely on reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject to help sustain notability. On the article, there are currently two sources used to sustain notability. This source is clearly marked as "Sponsored: Advertising Content". Such a source is not usable for purposes of supporting an article on the project. Further, per WP:PRIMARY, interviews are usually considered primary sources, and thus do not help sustain notability. The second source [2] is from Macomb Daily. This is a local news source of fairly limited distribution. It is the only secondary source on the article. That single source, by itself, is not enough to sustain notability. If this person is as famous as you say, there should be plenty of other sources on the Internet from newspapers and other news outlets that discuss this person, which would qualify an article for them under WP:GNG. Does that answer your question? --Hammersoft (talk) 19:28, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Thank you so much. You are the first person who explained things to me with detail. No one tried and instead they were just teaming up on me. I honestly don't know how things go here. I am still new. I also couldn't create my own article as I have no idea how things work. I just want to write a book in Arabic about notable Lebanese people. This is my ultimate mission and I use Wikipedia for information. On the talk page of the article for deletion, I noticed many other sources listed and some in Arabic too and after checking each one I noticed they are not sponsored. I even did some digging and found an article about him in Arabic that I linked on the talk page. This is why I thought to myself, why not someone experienced use those as links as references and fix the article instead of having it deleted. I honestly thought that there was discrimination involved at first. You just made things so much understandable and clear. If the article gets deleted oh well what can we do. However, in Lebanon many people know him. He has helped a lot of non-profits and people really like him. He would have been good for the book I am writing too. However thank you so much. Honestly. You gave me valuable information. Respect and salutation to you. Tony A. Al-halab Lebtimes 19:38, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- I looked at the sources outlined by Pagnotto in their keep recommendation on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ali R. Jaber. All of the sources listed have to do with the incident involving the professor. Such a compilation of sources points rather strongly to WP:BLP1E. A person is not usually considered notable enough for inclusion here because they make it into the news over a single event. Thus, this event by itself is not useful to establish notability for Jaber. The claim in the article that he became "immensely popular" is sustained only by a primary source. If he is in fact so immensely popular, there should be ample secondary sources to support such a statement. I did a check of The Daily Star in Lebanon [3]. None of the results mention Ali R. Jaber. Perhaps you can find other results in other media outlets? Barring presentation of such results, there's nothing to go on here to sustain notability. I hope you understand it's not an issue of discrimination. If you find such sources, the chances of the article being kept will dramatically improve. Without them, there's nothing to sustain notability and it will be deleted. --Hammersoft (talk) 19:49, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
No worries, I understand what you mean now and you are correct. I also apologize for attacking anyone. I just felt as I had to reply because I was nice and respectful to this admin and instead she referred to me as dishonest. I will ignore such things from now on. I honestly hate arguing and I see arguing as a waste of resources. Again, thank for your professionalism and expertise. I don't know you but I really respect you. You are the definition of an authentic administrator. Tony A. Al-halab Lebtimes 19:51, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the compliments. But, I'm just another editor here, the same as you. I have no more authority than you do, assuming we both continue to edit in good faith and in concert with our policies and guidelines. See my principle #1. The only difference between you and me is that I have more experience. Being new isn't a crime. Just keep cool, even if you feel you've been wronged, and edit. --Hammersoft (talk) 20:04, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
