March 2008

How prescient to add details of a book yet to be published (March 10) to a number of different pages on wikipedia. One might almost feel that you have a vested interest in pushing it. I have removed the reference from Oliver Cromwell, as it could only have a very peripheral interest for readers of this encyclopaedia who are more likely to be searching for factual information. Kbthompson (talk) 00:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So, what does it have to do with a list of short stories by Robert Louis Stevenson? Removed. Kbthompson (talk) 00:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, universal acclaim for a book to be published on Monday - actually, I guess that's the paperback - and with no notability, Removed from Piracy. This is the kind of section it could be added to, but without the peacock words, and when the book has achieved some notability. Kbthompson (talk) 00:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Treasure Island, no notability, wrong section - it's neither TV, or radio. Kbthompson (talk) 00:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is the only warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Long John Silver, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing their websites from appearing on Wikipedia.

External links to websites pushing your (or indeed anyone else's) book and its Amazon page are strict no-nos. Kbthompson (talk) 00:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The basic scoop: you are welcome to add details of the book in appropriate places should it achieve notability. Wikipedia is not a place to advertise products or services, or to anticipate notability. I've left a mention under 'Modern portrayals' - but there is no guarantee this will not also be removed for much the reasons I've already outlined. Kbthompson (talk) 00:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The novel that I added, "SILVER", received a full page rave review in the New York Times Book Review. Contrary to the presumptions made by the administrator, the novel had been published. I spoke with the publisher to find out more about the novel, and the publisher told me that not only is the book selling well, but that the film rights are being shopped. I am adding the information about the book, as it seems a valid entry to me. Does anyone believe that it is also appropriate to add a link to the "pirates" category? It seems appropriate.
