The Clips
Yes! They're wonderful. I'll ask Tvoz what she thinks of the Fair Use Rationale, but it looks OK to me. I feel that it's really difficult to put together a biographical article on any musician, without being able to give the reader a sense of their "sound". Plus, as Stevens grew 27 years older, his direction changed, both personally and spiritually, so it was inevitable that his music might change too. Here's a great version of his song "I think I see the Light", which was performed in 1970, and then again, in 2007. Here is the song, if you want to make a clip for his "return to music".[1] If not I understand, you've been a great help here!! (This song is cool, because it's got the blessing of a Sheikh, (Sheikh Hamza), and it has his spirtitual seeking theme in it, plus a cool jazz edge to it. ;) --leahtwosaints (talk) 21:12, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh no, I think you misunderstood me, I'm willing to help, but what I meant was I can't devote my full wiki-time to it. I'll try make a clip for this as well. But if I have to put it on wiki again, you have to tell me where! :) Great music, nonetheless. Suede67 (talk) 21:23, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, I got the clip done. What now? Btw, do you happen to have an account on eBay? Suede67 (talk) 22:14, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
No Ebay account. Sorry. I know I got greedy there. Just that I'd been seeking someone so long to assist with sound bites. In the Cat Stevens article, the clip would go right at the paragraph that is under the section, "Return to Music". Then, look for a big box with a quote in it. If you work down through several paragraphs below it, you'll find a paragraph like this copied block of text, (below) and right below it on the right, should be "I Think I See the Light" and the new "Father and Son":
In April 2007, BBC1 broadcast a concert given at the Porchester Hall by Yusuf as part of BBC Sessions, his first live performance in London in 28 years (the previous one being the UNICEF "Year of the Child" concert in 1979). He played several new songs along with some old ones like "Father and Son", "The Wind", "Where Do the Children Play?", "Don't Be Shy", "Wild World", and "Peace Train".
Sorry about the confusion and my being so out of it. I'm just trying to hang in here till I can fetch a ride to the hospital. My apologies. --leahtwosaints (talk) 23:29, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, dont apologize. I did the clip. See it here. But what about the new "Father and son"? You didnt give a link to that, just the See the light song. Suede67 (talk) 23:41, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh! I wasn't sure if you'd copied the old or new "Father and Son", so don't worry over it. If I was to ask for another clip, see this, though, from Foreigner: "Later", which shows his newer sound from the one that made him famous: [2] But like I said, I don't want to push you. Maybe when I get better I'll figure out how you did these things, haha. --leahtwosaints (talk) 23:52, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- No I don't think I'm being pushed or anything. So where should this clip go? Suede67 (talk) 23:56, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

- Well, ideally, I would place the other "Cat Stevens" hit songs in the text, beginning with The First Cut.. and then, after his recovery from tuberculosis, Wild World, and then Peace Train. But after the three really big seller albums, Tea for the Tillerman, Teaser and the Firecat, and Catch Bull at Four, he did an album, called Foreigner, in which he dropped his whole band for the album, including his producer, and so the sound was a bit different, and the fans were less pleased. So "Later" would go right after the heading of "Later Cat Stevens Recordings". --leahtwosaints (talk) 00:04, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- That's great, takes courage to do that. I have the clip up here. Btw, the list I was hoping to get featured just got featured! YAY! See here. Suede67 (talk) 00:32, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! About music, my only thought is this with regards to Cat Stevens: However, if you are up to it, can you edit the Cat Stevens song page clips so that the wording around them looks the same way as those you put into the text? That way, I can simply copy and paste them into the text unless you want to do that? Otherwise, I think you have been a blessing! You know, the more I think of it, once we tend to sound and the last album and song pages, the article should be ready for FA checking.--leahtwosaints (talk) 14:39, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the lovely gesture!
Felt great! Thanks for the barnstar! Was my first as well! Did you finally go to the hospital? How're you doing? Let me know if there's any more clips to be done. You deserve one as well.

I award this barnstar to Leah for her tireless work of getting permission for getting more photographs on wiki. Thanks to her, wiki is a more colorful place. Suede67 (talk) 13:36, 14 June 2009 (UTC) |
Song pages
Which song pages, exactly? You mean I do a copy-edit, right? Checkinh for grammar, etc? Suede67 (talk) 14:47, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, copyedit, and I meant also the Cat Stevens album pages which are just start-ranked, really. But don't sweat it. --leahtwosaints (talk) 15:50, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, this will take time. I'll select one song page, preferably one which has a good chance for a GA nom, before I go. Suede67 (talk) 15:54, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
OK- I'm going offline now-- gotta pack for the hospital, I feel they'll probably admit me. Feel free to email when you are gone! --leahtwosaints (talk) 15:57, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, anyway, take care of yourself, and come back soon! I'll look into the song articles, as much as I can. Suede67 (talk) 16:29, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Cat's main page
I think I did what you wanted, they're on the main page. I put them in their sections where it reads about their release. If you wanted them in some other section, you can easily move the code, that would be easy, try it. And I dont really know WHAT to write about them. I'm not really familiar with Cat's work as yet, so it'd be better if you yourself write. You're good in copy editing, isnt it? ;) Ayway, are you feeling better than before? And I'm actually at my cousins place, there is a computer here, but I'd rather not spend my time here online, right?! :) Cya, tk care...! Suede67 (talk) 05:14, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, you misunderstand. You know, you did an awesome job of placing "Later", and the other ogg clips in the text. Can you just add the same sentence like you did with the others? Merely duplicate what you already put on the song page, but with the info you placed-- that square around the clips in the text, as with "The First Cut is the Deepest" in the text, the way you did, with the year, album, and author. That is all. If you can add that stuff on the song pages, I'll be happy to copy and paste it into the text (if that will work). I just would like to see the information around the clips, since I would like to place the clips you made in the song pages ALSO in the text too. Would that be OK?, That's all. The same way you did with the clips in the text, but with that square with the tiny extra information around the clip like you did on the ones in the text. --leahtwosaints (talk) 06:26, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Whoops, just read about your cousin's... missed it entirely. Do NOT wear yourself out for a project like this. It can wait, or you can just say, "No". Take care-- Leah--leahtwosaints (talk) 06:28, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I thought you were out of town! At your cousin's? It's perfect. --leahtwosaints (talk) 10:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, out of town, but at home again! Suede67 (talk) 12:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Tom Simpson
That is a marvelous pic of him!!! Great job! Suede67 (talk) 03:19, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Cropping
No problem, but it may be a few days before you get them, I'm busy with something else right now. SpinningSpark 23:24, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Derek/Cat
I'm willing to make clips, it's fun, I get to listen to new music as well. Tell me the song names/youtube links or anything. I'll do it as I get some time here. And I did notice earlier today the ext links you added on Derek's page. I have it on my watchlist as you know. Anyway, I'll look into it, when I get time to work on Derek's albums again. About the flicr bit, yep, "AkashGoyal" is definitely indian. But I don't think me asking him would make a difference, you certainly have the edge, being the holder of much experience. By the way, the only SP band members needing a proper photo would be Jonny Quinn, I suppose, as his face isnt clear enough. But its still a nice photo. If he doesnt respond, please dont spend any time on it. Its not as if the stated musician is lacking a photo. C ya! Be well Suede67 (talk) 15:36, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was looking for Quinn, and perhaps a better band photo for you. We'll see! OK, for a change, here's "Sahib Teri Bandi" from Derek Trucks-- nobody would be better able to judge a good part of this song than you! [3] Can you place this on the song page for Derek Trucks that contains it, and also in the text where it's mentioned, with the words around it and the year, like you did for Cat Stevens? I'll have more for you to do in a bit. Thanks. --leahtwosaints (talk) 15:52, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, I am unsure that performance is truly worthy. You be the judge. There's a better version from NPR- National Public Radio that has several songs. Here: [4]. I could not trust anyone else to do this one!--leahtwosaints (talk) 16:02, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, sure, The song sounds sweet! I'll hear both versions, and then upload one, okay? Suede67 (talk) 16:06, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- I uploaded it here. Couldnt find any other place where the song is mentioned. Or is it? Tell me if it is. Suede67 (talk) 16:51, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

- Well, I'd go to Derek Trucks and in the section, Influences, see where it says Trucks was interested in East Indian music? You can put it there, and also on the Songlines page that you helped with already.--leahtwosaints (talk) 17:04, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- OK don't worry about that-- I did a copy-paste to those places, but got 2 questions: 1)Will it need some defense in use, in putting the clips there? Like, will I get some nasty red exclamation points in the talk pages? 2)In your opinion, was that rendition of quaali (sp.) music good? I'd have No idea. We Americans are so smug, but know diddley.--leahtwosaints (talk) 19:52, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Haha!! I myself don't listen to wqawwali much, but do have appreciation/respect for it. But it did sound superb, and just like a qawwali (Derek's slide playing). About the clips gettting questioned, I think we should remove them from Nusrat's page (as it appears as if it's fousing on Derek, and not Nusrat) and the songlines page (in this case, atleast till I get around expanding it, and hoping it has mass, when I do). I hope you wont mind me removing them for now. The clips added to Cat Stevens' page were a nice addition, the article has mass, loads of info, and a nice audio clip to supplement it. Whereas the Songlines page currently has no real information on the album. It just wouldnt look right, having a clip right now. Suede67 (talk) 03:29, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

- You be the judge about Nusrat, but perhaps I'll write a paragraph about his influence on Derek Trucks and leave the clip there. How to defend the use of the clips though? Did you figure it out? I CAN ask an Admin who I know, if needed. Later today, I'll give you some juicy Cat Stevens and really rocking Derek + Clapton music to choose from at your leisure of course. I am so happy to have found a friend in you. --leahtwosaints (talk) 09:48, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm drooling :) And yes, sonme lines about his Nusrat influence would do good! Suede67 (talk) 15:08, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I'm doing all of it. Will take some time though, i'll post it on your talk page, you can move it wherever you wish. Just tell me what went whee, I'd like to see how the article looks. Suede67 (talk) 04:16, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

- Of course. Just stuff to do when you get distracted. I think the Muslim Cat Stevens stuff isn't that hot, except A is for Allah! But the later stuff, and the last Derek stuff you may like. I still gotta get a feel for what you like. By the way, what time is it in.. what city are you near? And what date? It's 12:24 PM here, barely Weds. June 24, and you? (laughing).. we're insane. --leahtwosaints (talk) 04:26, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm in Mumbai right now, June 24, Sunny morning, 11:41 am! And the power is going off twice a day. I'll star working on the clips NOW, as powere went almost immediately after my last message. Suede67 (talk) 06:15, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- They refer to wikipedia?! Where! I'd like to see a link, please! Suede67 (talk) 07:28, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

- I'll have to look for it. There's a ton of stuff on that website, in the infobox, right? Probably under info or something. But, it's now almost 4AM and I'd have to seriously hunt for it. But I do know Derek's dad's best friend, (a photographer, no less), AND a friend of mine plays Sax in his wife's band, so I better not f**k up. Yawn. Tomorrow, my brother! Salaam.--leahtwosaints (talk) 07:52, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Very cool! See ya tomorrow! Suede67 (talk) 07:58, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- I have most clips done, the remaining are ones I don't know where to put them. Clips/pics etc (the kind) can be speedily deleted if found not being used in any articles. What should I do? The remaining ones are: Derek-Down in the flood, Yusuf-Thinking abt you, sad lisa, trouble, peace train. Suede67 (talk) 15:13, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- OK, if it's alright, I'm going out for a few minutes. Don't Peace Train, and "Trouble" have pages? ("Trouble" sucks but I'm gonna amend that, somehow, [sigh]. So leave it there for now.) have pages? Actually, Trouble would go The other two, I gotta go out, but I'll tell you later. OK? I appreciate your help!--leahtwosaints (talk) 16:28, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Re:Curiosity
I came to editing highway articles as I have a great interest in roads. Most of the articles I focus on are in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, which is where I live. In getting information for the route description, I use Google Maps as well as offical documents put out by state governments, such as New Jersey's Straight Line Diagrams and Maryland's Highway Location Reference. For the history section, the best places to look for information are historical road maps and old newspaper articles; it takes some effort to obtain this information. As for the maps in the article, I did not make them myself, they were made by other users. If you have an interest in editing articles about roads in the United States, there is a WikiProject called Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads that you can join. In addition, there are subprojects for many different states, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey State and County Routes and Wikipedia:WikiProject Roads in Maryland, you may join also. For more information about editing articles about roads, you can look into these WikiProjects and possibly become a member. We can use your help! Dough4872 (talk) 18:22, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds interesting. I also live in the suburbs of Washington D.C. which is how one of your articles in Anne Arundel County waiting for FA review came to my attention. How you upload the maps without the Commons Nazis though is beyond me.. but I'll ask at another time. Sounds neat. --leahtwosaints (talk) 22:00, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

To use copyrighted material where you do not have the permission of the artist you must make a case for "fair-use". The guidelinea are at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. Basically, you need to place a fair-use template on the page of the copyrighted media (image or sound sample). You have to do this seperately for every article the media is used in. You cannot do this at commons, fair-use is not accepted there, you must upload the material to Wikipedia.
