UAB Spamming

[edit]
Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

I've suggested that this be allowed. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 04:44, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. This seems like a perfectly fine username change. MC10 (TCGBL) 05:10, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work on the article - I have made a few minor changes - added some categories and an ibox. I have also nominated it for a DYK slot on the main page, see Template talk:Did you know#Underwater Archaeology Branch, Naval History & Heritage Command. – ukexpat (talk) 16:56, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Just a gentle reminder to please use edit summaries. For help with naming references for multiple use please see WP:NAMEDREFS or ask for help! Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 18:15, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message, happy to help. Named refs look tricky at first but once you get the hang of it, it makes sense. The steps are set out at WP:NAMEDREFS, but basically: at the place where the full reference is used you add the ref name tag, so, for example, if I was using Google as a reference for a statement I would add the code <ref name="google">http://google.com<ref>; notice how the ref name tag replaces the usual opening <ref> tag. Then, the next time you want to use the identical reference, you just use the named ref tag but with a closing slash, like this <ref name="google" /> - the usual closing </ref> tag is not necessary in this case. Now, the first named ref tag doesn't have to be used the first time the ref is used in the article, so in this article I created the name tag where the full ref appeared, then used the shortened tag earlier on in the article - this avoids having to move the references around. Hope this helps! I'll keep an eye on the article to see how you are doing. – ukexpat (talk) 18:46, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]

Don't worry about it slipping, once it's on the list the nomination is under consideration. I may drop one of the regular reviewers there a note asking if they can review it. – ukexpat (talk) 21:01, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Underwater Archaeology Branch, Naval History & Heritage Command

[edit]
Updated DYK query On March 30, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Underwater Archaeology Branch, Naval History & Heritage Command, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Materialscientist (talk) 23:23, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats on the DYK. Let me know if you need help with anything else! – ukexpat (talk) 01:08, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the most kind words, comments like yours make it all worthwhile. There is an archive of DYKs so you can see how the entry looked at Wikipedia:Recent additions#31 March 2010 - it's in the third block for that day. Also if you check the traffic stats link in the message box above, you will see that it received 1800 page views that day, not bad at all! – ukexpat (talk) 14:10, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Files missing description details

[edit]
Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

are missing a description and/or other details on their image description pages. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the images, and they will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions, please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Theo's Little Bot (error?) 09:12, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
