Week 2 Guideline part 1
[edit]Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference? No, not every fact is referenced with an appropriate reliable source. There is no reference included for the section that talks about his first career hat trick being scored against Miikka Kiprisoff. There is also no reference for the section that talks about Vernon being undrafted and where he played his junior hockey. Aside from these two instances, all information is referenced appropriately with reliable sources.
Is the article neutral? Are there any claims, or frames, that appear heavily biased toward a particular position? This is a neutral article. The information stated about Vernon is simply facts about where he played and his career statistics. There is nothing in this article that suggests bias toward a particular position (eg. there is no mention of whether Vernon is a good hockey player or not).
Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you? Yes, all the information provided about Vernon in the article is relevant to the topic. The article is about his hockey career, including both past and present teams that Vernon has been part of. There is nothing distracting in this article that I would say doesn't belong or doesn't pertain to the topic of the article. Lauzo119 (talk) 15:02, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
Week 2 Guideline part 2
[edit]There is not a lot of information included in the article about Vernon Fiddler. There could be more information included about his minor and junior hockey career and his path to the NHL as he went undrafted. There is no mention of his Metis heritage or his life outside of hockey. I hope to be able to contribute to these areas. There are two sections without proper reference to the information that was listed. I hope to be able to find references to back up that information.Lauzo119 (talk) 15:18, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
Community Involvement
[edit]Vernon Fiddler and his wife, Chrissy, created a childrens foundation called "Fidd's Kids." Fiddler created the foundation while playing for the Dallas Stars. Through a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas, the foundation donates 12 tickets to each home game to local children. In 2015, Fiddler was voted by his teammates as their nominee for the National Hockey League's King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The annual award goes to the player "who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community." Throughout his NHL career, Fiddler has been involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as a way to honour his sister who passed away from leukemia.
