Hi there,
Thanks, I do have a question! How can I change the title (the bit in brackets after a title) from a page that is outdated?
I'm trying to update someone we represent who's now changed roles - I've posted it on the Requested Moves page, but not sure if I've done it correctly?
Any help much appreciated! (Laurenjbrayshaw (talk) 14:40, 9 August 2011 (UTC))
- You can change the title of an article by moving it, but unfortunately, as you haven't been around for four days, this function is unavailable to you at the moment. So your post to requested moves was 100% correct (and you did format it correctly). The requested moves process can take anywhere between a minute to a day, so don't think because no-one has moved it yet it was incorrect, it just means no-one has got around to it yet. I'd be willing to move Amanda Palmer (journalist) to Amanda Palmer (executive director) for you, except I'm not sure if that's in line with our standard practices. We (Wikipedia) generally name articles after what the subject is most notable for doing (which is not always what they are currently doing). Has Palmer now become more notable for being an executive director of DFI? Or is she still more well-known for being a journalist? If the former, I'll move the article for you, but if it's the latter, then it would probably be more appropriate for the article to stay at the present title. Hi there,
Thanks for the fast response. Yes, I was hoping to change her title from journalist as she's not predominantly known for her role as a journalist anymore (although she does retain one show for Al Jazeera - The Fabulous Picture Show) but is more widely known as the head of the Doha Film Institute and Doha Tribeca Film Festival. In case it's useful for verification of Amanda's predominant role, I've put a few links below to recent articles in the press and conferences where Amanda has spoken.
Thanks for the help!
Verification of Amanda’s role as Executive Director can be found on the following links:
1 – As you can see Amanda spoke as Executive Director of the DFI at The Guardian Changing Media summit in 2011: http://www.guardian.co.uk/changingmediasummit/changing-media-summit-speakers-2011-amanda-palmer
2- Outlined as the Executive Director in this article in film trade Variety: http://varietyarabia.com/Docs.Viewer/121057c7-ce33-4545-a6e0-3e1cd3ababc0/default.aspx
3 – In this article in film trade Screen: http://www.screendaily.com/reports/one-on-one/amanda-palmer/5020351.article

Sorry, not sure if I need to include this again

- Thanks for providing those sources. You've convinced me, so I'll move the article after saving this comment and cite this discussion as my reason for doing so. Just as an FYI, you didn't need to include the "help me" again (I've got your page on my watchlist), but it doesn't really hurt either. Cheers, Jenks24 (talk) 15:45, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks, think I'm just about getting the hang of it! Any further questions I'll let you know. (Laurenjbrayshaw (talk) 16:00, 9 August 2011 (UTC))
Over-representing someone
[edit]Hi
Please see my and Favonian's remarks addressed to you at: Talk:Amanda_Palmer_(journalist)#Move.3F_.283.29.
WP is NOT for marketing or 'representing' others. Editing here, while doing that presents real problems and issues, including maintaining WP:NPOV.
Please either keep this in mind, or stop editing here. (If you feel a need to reply, please do so here, not elsewhere.) Thanks. Lentower (talk) 21:23, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
