Syria article contributions
[edit]Hello Latristelagrima. Contributions to Wikipedia are certainly welcome from everybody, but you need to keep in mind that said contributions must be in line with our fundemental policy of WP:NPOV (neutral point of view), asserting a POV label like "mandate flag" or "independence flag" is a breach of that policy. Using the neutral (and factually precise) description of Flag of Syria (1924-1958) is the preferred language. Furthermore, adding a hat link to Syria TV, a very low-importance article that hardly receives any visitors is not favorable. This is what the disambiguation page is for. One last thing, you've been edit warring about these two additions with several editors now. Please be informed that you're not allowed to make more than 3 reverts in a 24h window per the 3 revert rule. If you persist with your reverts, I will take it up to the appropriate forum. Thank you. Yazan (talk) 12:40, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the barnstar, and the kind wishes. Nevertheless, I'm afraid your language is not neutral, not for Wikipedia's purposes. The origins of the flag, and it's symbolism is discussed extensively in its own article Flag of Syria. To state that it is the "mandate flag", or (to the other side) the "independence flag" is to state a biased point of view. Because information on Wikipedia is sourced to reliable sources, there are many that will mention the flag in both ways, which means that the neutral language is the one that avoids either side, and sticks with the factual information, which is that it was the flag of Syria between 1924 and 1958. Again, with the Syria TV hat link: it violates the WP:UNDUE guideline on wikipedia, because it gives undue weight to a rather unimportant article, that is already mentioned in the other disambiguation link. I've removed the 3RR report, in the hope that you would self-revert the changes after this conversation, and I really urge you to do so. Best Yazan (talk) 17:23, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- I would also avoid uncivil edit summaries like this one, using condescending language like "honey" with other editors makes for a very unpleasant environment. Yazan (talk) 17:25, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, your're welcome about the barnstar, you might think about I'm not neutral, But really I'm and the period of the flag shows It's the time of French mandate, and before this period we were under ottoman occupation, and France who designed this flag, so where is the mistake of mentioning "French mandate" ? I'm waiting for your reply :) and thanks :). Mustafa (talk) 17:33, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Labeling the flag as the "mandate flag" is not neutral, certainly within the context of the Syrian Civil War at the moment. Mentioning the dates, and a reference to the detailed article, is the neutral language. I'm the third editor who's trying to tell you that. Please self-revert, you're well beyond the 3RR and you will probably be blocked. Yazan (talk) 17:39, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, per WP:ARBPIA, the article Syria, along with articles related to Arab-Israeli conflict are under 1RR per 24 hours, as laid out in a 2008 Arbitration Case (see article talk page). Thanks Hto9950 (talk | contribs) 18:51, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
I'm afraid I will have to block your account if I see any further revert on Syria. Please discuss your proposed edits on the talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 22:57, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Aleppine People
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing inappropriate pages, such as Aleppine People, is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Yazan (talk) 06:11, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Re: Aleppine People
[edit]Hello Latristelagrima.
First of all, I didn't delete the article (only administrators on Wikipedia can delete articles, and I'm not one). I nominated it to be speedily deleted, and an administrator has evaluated that request, and found that it indeed isn't appropriate for Wikipedia. You can take it up with the admin Peridon (talk · contribs) (But before, please take some time to read the links I am providing you, they will help you understand the main rules and processes about editing in Wikipedia).
Second of all, the article doesn't provide any sources for the statements or its notability. Aleppo's population is already covered in the articles on Syrian people and Demographics of Syria. To create a separate article about Aleppo, you need to provide reliable sources that assert that Aleppines are indeed significantly different from the aforementioned topics and deserve their own article. You did not do that, indeed what you did, was to assert falsely that Aleppines are a an ethnic group (which is rubbish; look up what ethnicity means in a dictionary), and that they help each other (hardly information fit for an encyclopedia).
Here's a relevant list of important policies and guidelines on Wikipedia that you obviously don't yet grasp very well (which is fine, I'd love to help): Neutral point of view, Undue weight, General notability requirements, No original research is allowed. I hope this helps. Best. Yazan (talk) 11:57, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well Thanks man, I will read the links soon. Latristelagrima (talk) 12:02, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I've also left an invitation, to Wikipedia's tea house, where new editors can ask questions about editing on Wikipedia (for example why this or that edit is being reverted, or what is the proper course of action in a certain situation... etc.) Do feel free to drop by, there are many friendly editors there who are eager to help. Salamat. Yazan (talk) 12:10, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello! Latristelagrima,

Workshop on Wikipedia and the Middle East
[edit]Hi Latristelagrima, I noticed that you edit a lot of articles about the Middle East and I'm organising a workshop for a group of researchers from the University of Oxford and the American University of Sharjah, about representation of the Middle East and North Africa region on Wikipedia. We held a workshop in Cairo for Wikipedians in October 2012 to discuss barriers to participation on Arabic Wikipedia. Our next workshop will be taking place in Amman, Jordan on the 26th-27th January 2013. We have funds to pay for participants' travel, accommodation and food. This workshop will concentrate more specifically on the representation of parts of the MENA region on Wikipedia and the ability of local editors to contribute to those representations. We are therefore looking for participants who edit articles about the MENA region (can be places, local historical or current events, local people etc.) We wanted to invite you because we noticed you have been involved in editing about contentious topics in the region and would really value your input. If you want to know more about this workshop, please contact me on wikiproject@oii.ox.ac.uk. Many thanks, Clarence (Project Manager) 163.1.201.84 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 12:22, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
Hi Clarence, I think these articles you're talking about are important, and a good idea, I would thank you for this invitation, but I'm really busy these days as I have exams in my University. Latristelagrima (talk) 16:11, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello, Latristelagrima. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Adnan al-rifaey, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Adnan al-rifaey to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.
If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.
Thanks, Amortias (T)(C) 19:27, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:03, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:28, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
