File:Threegraces lh ima 2010.jpg
[edit]Hello! Were you the photographer of "File:Threegraces lh ima 2010.jpg"? If so, I had a discussion with another editor about it at "commons:Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Statue in the US by unknown sculptor", and it seems it may be in the public domain. We can therefore transfer it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of using it at the English Wikipedia under a fair-use justification. Once this has been done, we might also be able to use the photograph in DYK on the main page. Could you change the Flickr licence to either CC-BY-2.0 or CC-BY-SA-2.0? — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 13:56, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Hello, JackLee. I am the photographer. I'm glad someone looked at that nomination! It's great that the photo qualifies for the Commons. I'll take care of the Flickr license today. Are you offering to move the photo to the Commons, or should I do it? Latinandgreekhon (talk) 15:36, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Go ahead and do it if you are familiar with the process. The editor I spoke to over at the Commons suggested stating on the file description page that the {{PD-US-no notice}} licence applies to the statue. (I normally put such tags in the
|permission=
field of the {{Artwork}} template together with a suitable descriptive note: see, for example, "File:Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia - IMG 7496.JPG".) As the photographer, you also need to select a suitable free licence. If you need help, let me know by leaving a message here. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 18:26, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information! I am unfamiliar with the process, so I would appreciate your assistance. (This was actually the first photo I've added to Wikipedia, and my first Flickr photo as well, so everything is slow for me.) If it isn't too much trouble for you, would you be willing to do the move? If not, please just let me know and I'll figure it out. I'll post here when I've changed the Flickr license. Latinandgreekhon (talk) 19:16, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, I got a chance to change the license! (I would have done it when I last posted, but I had no idea how long it would take.) I hope that's what you needed. Let me know if I should do anything else with the photo. Latinandgreekhon (talk) 02:04, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- Done. No problem. I have uploaded the file to the Commons as "File:The Three Graces, Indianapolis Museum of Art - 20101115.jpg". If an image is on the English Wikipedia or another Wikipedia project, it can be moved to the Commons using the CommonsHelper. However, I didn't use this tool because the file was tagged as non-free at the English Wikipedia, which CommonsHelper will not accept. Instead, I used Flinfo. Flinfo is not a fully automated tool as you need to manually download each file from Flickr on to your hard disk, then upload it to the Commons. However, Flinfo helps by extracting information about the photograph from Flickr. I also applied the {{Artwork}} template to the file description page and filled it in based on information at "The Three Graces (Indianapolis)". — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 04:30, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
DYK for The Three Graces (Indianapolis)
[edit]On 11 August 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Three Graces (Indianapolis), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Indianapolis Museum of Art's outdoor sculpture The Three Graces is based on a c. 1797 painting by noted Italian artist Antonio Canova, but its sculptor is unknown? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template talk:Did you know/The Three Graces (Indianapolis). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
