[edit]Hello Larsonk:
About adding the category Norwegian-American to the article on Paris Hilton, it was there before but was removed because there was nothing written in the article to support the category.
According to the article on Conrad Hilton, Paris's great grandfather, he was born in San Antonio, Socorro County, New Mexico Territory (now New Mexico).
I think Conrad Hilton's father was born in Norway (the article on Conrad Hilton is a bit confusing.). Isn't this going very far back to make the connection to the category Norwegian-American?
Maybe you have more information. Best wishes, Wanderer57 (talk) 14:21, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. Just a couple of points.
- Once I went to the article on Conrad Hilton, it was clear that Paris Hilton has Norwegian ancestry. I think that if that ancestry is important enough to be worth coding a category, then it is important enough that it should be mentioned in the article about Paris. I read the whole article and found no mention.
- Is it significant enough to be worth mentioning if someone has (say) one great great grandparent of a particular nationality? Tricky question and I don't know the answer. However, if categories for nationality were added to articles whenever someone had (say) 1/16 of a particular ancestry, I think the category system would get very overloaded and the workload involved would be huge.

- Hi Larsonk:
- I put a reply to your comments in Talk:Paris Hilton#Ancestry. I also put a earlier related comment in Talk:Paris Hilton#The Category Game. I don't know if you saw it.
- But I want to add a note here more specifically to you. I wasn't the one who added back the "German-American" category, or added the "Americans of German descent" category. (I have no idea what the difference is supposed to be.) Last month (on Feb 11) I removed both the German-American AND the Norwegian-American categories from the article. I in no way favor one over the other.
- As I have said before, I think that if that someone's ancestry is important enough to be worth coding in a category, then it is important enough that it should be mentioned in the article about them. I got the impression you somewhat agreed with that.
- If you want to either remove the German-American categories or add back the Norwegian-American one, go right ahead. Personally, I think it would be much better if there was a note right in the article to support each "ancestry" category. I also think the connection (both to Germany and Norway) is very remote now (see my note in Talk:Paris Hilton#Ancestry.)
- But I could be wrong. Maybe Paris's father is a member of a Sons of Norway association, in which case the connection is much more immediate.
- PS "either biased, absurd or starstruck." It is nice to have a choice.
Hi there, and welcome to wikipedia. I deleted the article, as you say, some ten months ago, because it did not assert any notability. Being a TV anchor does not, of itself, confer this notability; there are many thousands of anchors. If you feel that the lady has a specific claim to encyclopedic notability please let me know, and I will be in that case more than happy to restore the text for you to improve. Happy wikying. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 12:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
