Elwood notables?
[edit]Hi @LarksAndRavens thanks for editing the Elwood, Indiana entry. I noticed that you linked Ryan Keene to the entry for Legion of Doom? I don't understand. What is the connection? -- Jaireeodell (talk) 20:33, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Jaireeodell!
- I'm actually very glad you asked, because I'm struggling with how to put that into words.
- Ryan "Fry Guy" Keene was notable for being an Elwood-based hacker who hung around the peripheries of the LoD, but was (notably) not a core member.
- It was his statements, and claimed affiliation with the group, that led to several of their members getting arrested in the early 90s.
- Keene was the one who claimed the group could paralyze the phone networks if they wanted to, which increased FBI skepticism.
- I'm unsure if I should drop the link to LoD, edit the LoD to mention Fry Guy, or something in between. Keene has been featured in books and podcasts, but lacks a page of his own. LarksAndRavens (talk) 18:10, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- Apologies, I just realized that should route to Legion of Doom (hacker group), rather than Legion of Doom. Apologies for the mistake! LarksAndRavens (talk) 18:53, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @LarksAndRavens, Thanks for the explanation! I didn't know about the hacker group, but I figured that it was something like that. I think that your idea to edit the Legion of Doom (hacker group) entry to mention Keene would be good. That way the linkage between the Elwood entry and hacker group entry would make sense. I don't have access to Newspapers.com right now, but I imagine that the same source would work. If you know more about the LOD hacker group, it looks like that article could use some citations too. Great work! Have fun! -- Jaireeodell (talk) 01:31, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
