- Thanks for that. I wasn't able to edit wikipedia while at school. I highly doubt that someone from my school has brought on the blocks. Lakeyboy 10:05, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

List of Melbourne Railway Stations with new 'Metlink style' Info Boxes and station photos
[edit]The map of Wikipedia Metlinked stations is now located on my userpage
Metlink Infoboxes
[edit]- Can you use a template for the infoboxes rather than putting the raw codes into each article? --ozzmosis 07:20, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- That I would not know how to do. Do you have the knowledge to create one? If so, that would be really useful and make placing these infoboxes into the articles much faster. Lakeyboy 09:37, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- It's done. See the template at Template:MelbourneRailwayStation and also the updated articles of Southern Cross Station and Frankston railway station, Melbourne for examples, although the Frankston infobox is incomplete (needs a logo, Melway ref, etc). --ozzmosis 15:58, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- I tend to think the "Station Facilities", "Connecting Transport and Timetables" and "Melway map of station" info links are going to get very tedious to do. Then what happens when the external URLs change...? --ozzmosis 16:03, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- I went ahead and changed the infobox to a template in the station list above, and went a bit nuts and did a few other Frankston line stations too. Obviously they all need logos... --ozzmosis 17:37, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, I've just noticed someone has had the same idea but with a Connex logo and some additional or different info, eg. see the infobox at Upfield railway station, Melbourne. The template is at Template:Melbourne Station Infobox. Not sure what to make of this. --ozzmosis 19:30, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Huge thanks for making the infobox template. Will make the task much easier. And with those other connex infoboxes, I'm overwriting them. My old ones I was presenting to the WikiProject Melbourne team said it was way too much information so mine just has links to the information at the metlink site. I've also fixed up Frankston. Thanks again. Lakeyboy 11:01, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Metlink station logos
[edit]Where are the Metlink station logos coming from? eg.
- Are you making those by hand? Surely you're not going to do that for all ~200 stations in Melbourne. What if I want one done for Frankston station? What happens when Metlink changes their logo? Why is the filename so generic? --ozzmosis 07:17, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes I am making these all by hand. Only takes about 10 seconds for each one but can take abit longer if it is a long station name (eg: upper ferntree gully). Yes I will eventually cover all 200 stations. I don't know how long it will take but it will get there bit by bit. If anyone wants their favourite stations put to the top of the priority list I can do that as well. If you want Frankston done, I'll get on it if you wish. If Metlink change their logo, then all the signs go down the train but I highly doubt Metlink will change their logo. It was created only about 3 years ago and they are rolling out tens of thousands of signs with the metlink logo on them right throughout Melbourne. And the filenames are generic for two reasons. Because the station pics usually aren't just the station name then .jpg at the end. They have different variations which include the station name and the second reason is that these signs are in .png format which can't be put into place for the station photos because of file sizes. Lakeyboy 08:57, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- OK, well I don't envy your task ahead but I do admit it looks good... --ozzmosis 15:59, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Can you explain the process? Primarily what software you are using. I want to make some of these myself... --ozzmosis 09:56, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Sure. I use only MS Paint for the process (don't need photoshop). I have a template I use which has the metlink bar at the bottom and the blue background with nothing on it. Here is the template for you: Station Sign Template I then use the textbox on transparent mode. I set the font to size 35 arial and the font colour white. No bold or itallic is used. If the text does not fit the template size, I extend the width. I align it to the right to make sure the end of the last letter of the station matches up with the end of the metlink logo. Then I simply save as a .PNG file. Only about 4-5kb each. Sorry if this sounds complicated. Lakeyboy 10:04, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Does that all really take only 10 seconds? *grin* OK, I'll give it a go. Thanks. --ozzmosis 10:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, maybe I was going a little overboard. More like 15 seconds! Anyway, in the logo section of the infobox, use this image tag and just replace the station name to the right station even if there is no file already made. That way, it will be quicker. Use this: File:STATION NAME.PNG Note the pixel size and the .png at the end. Also station names with two or more words do have spaces between them. Lakeyboy 10:10, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have another idea. You could use a template instead of an image, simply with a base image of the blue+black+logo, and lay the name over the top. Sure, it won't be in Helvetica Neue, but Arial's close enough, LOL! It will make updating A LOT easier, and even reduce the amount of data to transfer a little (not that it'd be much to worry about). --Evan C (Talk) 10:21, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- That sounds like a great idea but there is 2 problems. The first is I have no idea how to do that and second, what happens with the long station names: The font shrinks but the sign stays the same and it won't look good. With the pictures, I create the signs with the amount of pixels it needs to fit the arial size 35 font in paint + 50px on the left side. Also, about 40-50 of these have already been created and I don't want that work going down the drain. Lakeyboy 10:28, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Arial is what's being used anyway. :-) I don't quite know how to write a template to do that though. --ozzmosis 10:34, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe two templates are required, one for short names and one for long names. It's a bit of a compromise but should work. --ozzmosis 10:34, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- And I realise it will feel like your work going "down the drain", but if we can use a template instead it will mean we can save a lot of time in the longer term, and also anybody can do it.
- Incidentally it should probably just be added to the existing template. I'm not sure we need nested templates. --ozzmosis 10:36, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Station navigation infoboxes
[edit](diff) (hist) . . m Glenhuntly railway station, Melbourne; 21:13:30 . . Lakeyboy (Talk | contribs) (fixed station navagation box)
- Hang on .. Firstly, you've mispelled "navigation", but the other reason I changed this was because the navigation box was previously a template. Now with your edit it's back to messy HTML codes. If you want to change the look of infobox, change the Template:MelbourneStations template, not each article. Templates make it all very easy to make infoboxes uniform across similar articles. --ozzmosis 10:56, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Whoops! Didn't realise I was spelling it wrong. I will fix them as soon as I can but I can't right now. And for the navigation boxes, I will fix the template so it looks like the ones that I have been replacing. But one thing, you might know how to do this because I don't but the template is fine for regular stations but what about stations with branching lines? How can you do it in multiples for the line branching stations. Thanks for all your help with this. Really appreciated. I even gave you credit with the infoboxes above. Lakeyboy 12:01, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure, maybe more than one template is required there for branch lines. I'll look if any other cities have dealt with that before, and perhaps experiment a bit.
- I did notice the credit, although it's not really necessary! :-) Thanks though.
- OK, I've made a template for stations with two branch lines at Template:MelbourneStations2. I'm using this template for Caulfield. There are some stations (eg. North Melbourne) that have more than two branch lines, but probably no need to make a template for them, because there are so few. --ozzmosis 11:12, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. Much easier to use for the line branch stations. And for the stations with 3 or more line branches (eg: most inner city stations), I also think it's good to keep the HTML code for them. And you deserve the credit. You've done virtually the whole Frankston line! I am now making station signs for the whole line. Lakeyboy 23:16, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Whoa on the images
[edit]I noticed you placed quite a lot of images on Boronia railway station, Melbourne - I think they're going a bit overboard. When editing Wikipedia it's often useful to think about what would be put in a print encyclopedia. Large numbers of images (as well as detailed information on station facilities, etc) would probably not make it to print. Things like this are best suited to enthusiast sites (and Metlink, etc for the facilities info). As such, I've removed most of them. Thank you for your efforts though - tis great work! --Evan C (Talk) 14:43, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- My sentiments, also. Two images should be enough, ie. platform view and station front entrance. --ozzmosis 14:49, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe it was abit overboard. I saw other station articles with about 5 each so I thought I would add to it but now I remember that words, not pictures are the main ingredient in a wikipedia article. Which means the saying 'A picture is worth a thousand words' is no use here! So I am going by what Ozzmosis has said. One platform view and one whole station/station entry view. Lakeyboy 10:39, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
We need to agree here
[edit]What basis do you have for using the jumbo-sized signs? My latest version is the most accurate to the real signs, whilst still fitting in appropriately, and (most importantly) being consistent. --Evan C (Talk) 09:43, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- I just don't think that the other ones didn't look all that good. These ones are much easier to read and it's easy to change it from 1 to 2 for longer station names. Nothing else in either infobox template needs to be touched. Just change the numbers: 1 for short name and 2 for long name. I don't know how we're going to sort this mess out! Lakeyboy
- Hehe - I don't think these ones look all that good! ;) --Evan C (Talk) 09:49, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- LOL! I have uploaded a better looking version of my sign now. A less thick white line. Lakeyboy 09:51, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Explaining Boronia Station
[edit]- Dear Luke:
- Thank you for doing what I had failed to do and explaining how Boronia was divided by that dreadful crossing.
- What about Maguire Park? That was where Boronia Junction (the shopping centre) is now.
- I really appreciated your writing on this page.
- --Bronwyn Gannan 03:43, 27 April 2006 (UTC).
- Thats ok. I read the article and noticed that what is probably the biggest thing to happen to Boronia not being there and being fairly local to Boronia, I thought I would add it. Thanks for commenting. Appreciate it. Lakeyboy 08:44, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Station adjacency
[edit]Just as a heads up, I've converted the table for more than two line branches into a pure template-based system. See Wikipedia :WikiProject Melbourne/Railway stations for how to use. Cheers. --Evan C (Talk) 12:54, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, nested templates! Great :-) Thanks. --ozzmosis 14:33, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- Fantastic work Evan but they can't be used for the City Loop Stations and stations adjoining the loop because the City Loop features 'Anti-Clockwise and Clockwise' instead of 'Previous station and Next station'. Still, great for all other stations with 3 or more. Lakeyboy 12:01, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! Seeing as the loop stations are a minority, simple tables will suffice. :) --Evan C (Talk) 12:03, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

OFLC ratings images
[edit]I've nominated the OFLC ratings symbol images you uploaded for deletion here. I have uploaded SVG versions of the symbols that replace them (and can be scaled to any size). --James 11:27, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for telling me. The newer ones are much better than the other ones I uploaded. Good to see the article being improved as I did spend quite abit of time updating the page with new ratings information. Lakeyboy 07:22, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure {{NoRightsReserved}} can be used for Image:Watergardens-station-platform.jpg. I'm waiting for an e-mail reply back from the author on what free licence he believes is most applicable to his photos. I suggested {{Attribution}} as a possibility. But maybe you have something about that already. In hindsight I probably should've been more specific about the copyright in my initial email to him. --ozzmosis 12:48, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- And your changes were reverted:
- 2006-05-22 05:34:02 Sherool (revert, the license is *not* fixed. Permission to use does *not* mean the copyright holder have released all rights to the work or that is is free to use anywhere.)
- Sherool means that because you the "used with permission" text remained, which is ambiguous as to what other people can do with the image.
- Still waiting on a reply from the author. --ozzmosis 19:56, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Whats the problem? I fixed the tag so it was like all the others. It's the same as all of the other images from vicrailstations.com used on here. Whats different about this one to all the others on the site or was the wrong tag put on the image in the first place? Lakeyboy 02:49, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, the wrong tag was used for this and 50+ other images. For some odd reason the Upload page allows you to use non-free copyright tags, which at the time I naively thought were acceptable. Anyway, see Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags for the list of acceptable licences. You can also read Sherool's message on my Talk page. --ozzmosis 07:16, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hang on, does that mean all the vicrailstations pictures we have uploaded aren't allowed? Or is it only a selection. I'm just abit confused about how this problem is only over the picture of Watergardens Station. Lakeyboy 07:19, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- They aren't allowed with the current non-free licence that has been assigned to them. The licence tag can be changed to a free licence, but I am trying to confirm with the photographer that this is acceptable. I suspect he will have no problem with it but I want to get confirmation before I go ahead.
- Presumably the Watergardens photo was just chosen at random. You would need to ask Sherool. --ozzmosis 07:31, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- Update: User_talk:Sherool#Image_copyright_problem_with_Image:Watergardens-station-platform.jpg. --ozzmosis 07:11, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- Do you think I should wait until Sherool gives the ok or do you think it would be ok if I started to upload more under the new tag? Lakeyboy 07:54, 27 May 2006 (UTC) EDIT: I saw you changed the Watergardens licence so I will go ahead and upload some more under the new licence. Lakeyboy 07:57, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm going to wait. --ozzmosis 08:35, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Closed Melbourse railway lines/stations
[edit]ive noticed the info boxes you have been putting up on current stations, i was wondering if its possible for you to make one for closed stations and lines, i would do this myself but honestly have no idea how to, cheers mate --Dan027 12:49, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, if what you mean is like what I have done to the General Motors Station article, then I just use the same infobox as all the other active stations. Feel free to add the infobox to any other closed station articles that don't already have one. Lakeyboy 03:05, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeh i did that with the staions on the Port Melbourne and the St Kilda line. In the future i was thinking of starting on some of the other closed railways in Victoria so a more "heritage" style info box would fit in better i think, with like a brown or olive green type colour(or even that burgundy on the puffing billy pages) instead of the blue/auqa on the normal stations, also perhaps including in it the "date opened" and "date closed" into the infobox. --Dan027 13:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- How is this for a start? I have created this just then:
- Yeh i did that with the staions on the Port Melbourne and the St Kilda line. In the future i was thinking of starting on some of the other closed railways in Victoria so a more "heritage" style info box would fit in better i think, with like a brown or olive green type colour(or even that burgundy on the puffing billy pages) instead of the blue/auqa on the normal stations, also perhaps including in it the "date opened" and "date closed" into the infobox. --Dan027 13:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
{{Infobox Victoria closed railway station}} What do you think and what should be changed? Lakeyboy 23:19, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah thats about right, no need to make it over complicated, just with the station signs and navigation would you be able to change them both to the same style? then ill start on changing them over. --Dan027 02:17, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Just a note to say that Channel 7 Logo.gif is going to be deleted, as a better SVG version is available, since I fixed a problem in it. ~ Trisreed my talk my contribs 06:08, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thats good. The new SVG is much better than the gif I uploaded. One problem though, you didn't put a proper image tag for the logo. It will get deleted but I'll fix it with the logo tag. Lakeyboy 12:09, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:YasminsGettingMarriedLogo.PNG
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:YasminsGettingMarriedLogo.PNG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.--Ansett 09:16, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Switch to Google Maps for station infoboxes
[edit]Why the change? Melway maps are far higher quality, and SD.com.au is a good presentation for them (though it does seem very few stations had the links anyway). --Evan C (Talk) 07:38, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- I decided that since street directory.com.au switched to google style draggable maps, I could no longer make direct links to the maps from the site like I used to. It also did not have consistant mapping of regional areas. With the use of Google Maps, you can easily drag the map around, zoom in and out, view aerial photography, mapping or both. I totally agree that Melway has the highest quality maps in the world and they look much better than google maps but when it comes to consistancy and the ability to actually copy the direct links, it seemed that the google maps was a more pratical option. P.S, I have filled in missing infobox information along the Hurstbridge line while making google map changes. It's a slow process but it's getting there. Lakeyboy 11:34, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Though so you know, you can easily link to Street-dir.com.au locations by: http://www.street-directory.com.au/sd_new/mapsearch.cgi?star=5&level=6&x=[longitude]&y=[latitude] (eg: http://www.street-directory.com.au/sd_new/mapsearch.cgi?star=5&level=6&x=145.262776&y=-37.846309) --Evan C (Talk) 08:00, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well I guess I (and hopefully others to speed things up) could just go into Google Earth and copying the latitude and longitude from pinpoints I make at stations and doing that so I'm thinking of putting both in the infobox. That way you have the quality of Melway and the flexability of Google. I'll add the melway link back so there is both of them. Lakeyboy 09:03, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Your addition of a copyrighted image solely to depict a living person (in this case, Elizabeth Mitchell) is in violation of WP:FUC and has been reverted. --Yamla 15:16, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
You asked: "Can you please clarify why the image can be used on other pages of Wikipedia but not on her page? I'm confused because I do not normally edit biography articles. Is there some restrictions which are different to regular Wikipedia articles? Thanks."
- Non-free images may not be used to depict living people. See WP:FUC. However, a screenshot of a t.v. show which depicts a character could possibly be used to illustrate that character. Similarly, a copyrighted promotional image of a fictional character may be used to depict that character. In the first place, a free image could reasonably be created. In the second, the character itself is owned by the appropriate people so no free image could reasonably be created. The rule is basically, "only free images for living people". Characters, however, are not living people. --Yamla 05:19, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hang on, so you are saying that promotional images are not allowed full stop but screenshots from TV shows may be allowed. Can you please clarify further. --Lakeyboy 05:27, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Non-free images may not be used to depict a living person. That means no non-free promotional images. No screenshots from tv shows. Full stop. However, we may use promotional images or screenshots from tv shows to depict fictional characters, with an appropriate fair-use rationale. --Yamla 14:27, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry but I've got to stand up to people that wipe good articles of good content. [edit]you are the one putting in unsourced information on the matt tilley page. If you look at the discussion page, the issue was resolved insofar as all the information had to be sourced. You are being the vandal lakeyboy. go outside and get some fresh-air.
until an admin actually tells me, i do not believe you.
- The fact is you are talking this too seriously. Whole articles do not need to be sourced. Wikipedia is not entirely written by researchers who dedicate their time to contribute. Wikipedia is for average people from all walks of life to contribute their own knowledge so others can learn about what someone else knows. Sure, for some statements which may sound like they are not true, it is common sense to source them out but not everything. You just have to realise that this encyclopedia is mainly filled with everyones knowledge and not just knowledge from members of the media. --Lakeyboy 08:16, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- Do we want an encyclopedia filled with the knowledge of every person in the world? I don't think so. There is a lot of crap floating around out there so we need to make sure that every man and his dog doesn't end up with a wiki page. There is a fair argument that everyone in the world has an aspect of their life which is significant in some way. Matt tilley is such an example. But beyond being a radio host, everything else in the article is rubbish. You cannot tell me that his wife, children, tertiary education, changing show name, number of tracks on his cd etc are of ANY SIGNIFICANCE AT ALL TO THE WORLD AT LARGE.
- You are acting your age, unfortunately. Wikipedia may benefit from average people from all walks of life, but 16 year old train-obsessed children are surely not of sufficient level of "human normality" to qualify.
- Oh yeah, you are right about the fact it doesn't have any significance at all to the world at large. Only a few million people know who Matt Tilley is compared to John Howard, the Queen, Steve Irwin etc etc. All the information relates TO HIM and that is what Wikipedia is all about so if you're not happy with the work i'm doing for the encyclopedia, go and find another website to visit. --Lakeyboy 10:03, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
- I love that you consider yourself the centre of the wikipedia universe. Do you really think that anyone comes here to look at the work you are doing for the encyclopedia? You have acted like a 16 year old sheltered child the entire time I have had to communicate with you. In the course of protectng your fan-page on Matt Tilley you have accused me of being a vandal, made false threats about banning me, roped in all your other trainiacs, and have vandalised my user page with bold/underline font. It is very sad that someone with so little life experience has taken it upon themselves to create shrines for their "heroes" on wikipedia. It is very childish and actually quite creepy. You might want to consider whether Matt Tilley would want his children's names and dates of birth put in the public forum. I am sure he would cherish their privacy. I dont think he would appreciate obsessive fans having access to such information (though I suppose you are proof that where there is a will...).
- Also, I have not posted under different names ever LakeyBOY, I have always called myself Mike and registered as Mike121212 in order to be able to nominate for deletion (and thus draw attention to the ridiculous fanboy wiki entry you have crafted). --Mike121212 01:37, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- You just have nothing else to say because while you are here talking to be about my lack of maturity but the truth is, Wikipedia is susposed to be for more minor personalities who are not popular enough to make it into mainstream encyclopedias such as Encarta and Brittanica. Now please stop with the personal attacks or I will report you for it. You've abused both me and Evan and don't say you haven't. We can go on and on for days, weeks or even months arguing about us and/or matt tilley and/or other members of Wikipedia who support me. In case you can't remember, your AFD attempt for Matt has resulted in 15 KEEPS, a comment, one weak delete, one person who changed from Delete to Abstain and only 1 actual delete which is yours. And please watch your wording of your sentences. You have said his children and their birth dates when it's actually Matt Tilley's date of birth (which all articles are susposed to have but unfortuantly I can only find the year as a source) and his 3 childrens names which he has mentioned on the air and also his wife. Can't you just put this to rest? Put simply, Matt Tilley is here to stay on Wikipedia. He is one of Melbourne's best known radio stars, has had a gold album which has gone into the top 4 of the national ARIA album charts and has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to womens hospitals in Melbourne. NOW TELL ME WHY THIS GUY DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED FOR THIS? Wikipedia is not for negativity. If you're into that, call up 3AW or 3LO and chat about negativity. NOT HERE. --Lakeyboy 07:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Who calls 3AW and chats about negativity? Aren't you the one chatting about negativity? By the way, using bold and underline makes you look like a nut. Oh wait... --Mike121212 08:14, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Don't change articles without checking sources!
[edit]Hi there. You recently changed many of the channel names in the Foxtel article. If you had of checked FOXTEL's channel list on their website (showing the channel's exact name and its capitalisation etc.), you would have noticed that the list was already correct. I reverted most of the channels you changed.
FOXTEL's official channel list is available at http://www.foxtel.tv/channel/lineup.html. Please check it before changing channels again :)

stop giving out false warnings
[edit]LakeyBOY, your lame fake warnings are pointless and, considering your history, not to be taken seriously. Do you really think you should be giving out "last warnings" to people when you have absolutely no power to do so anyway?--Mike121212 02:39, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Home and Away Logo.gif
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Home and Away Logo.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. JDtalk 23:20, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hang on, exactly what else do I need to add to the image description? I've looked at WP:ICT and the correct template is in use. Thanks. --Lakeyboy 23:37, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- The tag on the image says that a fair use rationale needs to be added to the image for every article it is used in, as well as the source and any copyright information. JDtalk 23:43, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:Southern Cross.PNG)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Southern Cross.PNG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 18:45, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- Feel free to delete it. It is superseeded and no longer required on Wikipedia. --Lakeyboy 00:12, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 advert?
[edit]Are you going to add to the talk page your rationale as to why you placed the advert tag on the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 page or should we just remove the tag? Because, as it says in the template, you need to add your explanation for it. I, personally, don't see any content in the article that goes against Wikipedia's WP:NPOV policy, nor do I see any content that is described in Wikipedia's WP:NOT#SOAPBOX policy. If you feel there is, I would love to get your feedback in the article talk page. Otherwise, I will be removing the tag in a couple of hours. Thanks. Roguegeek (talk) 05:06, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:The Wedge TV Show Logo.PNG
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:The Wedge TV Show Logo.PNG.
Thank you. JDtalk 13:25, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Movie World Pictures
[edit]Response to comment at User: Jedd the Jedi's talkpage
Your'e welcome, LakeyBoy! These are a first for me, after first learning how to upload pics, so I'm not too good with technical details. Sorry about that. Is it okay if you specify which pictures, because I believe at least a few are of acceptable size. I think you mean the theme park gate picture on the main article. Anyway, thanks, and I'll see what can be done. -- Jedd the Jedi 09:39, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
AFL Team Colours
[edit]Hey, I originally added all the logos with fair use tags, but as some of them are an official design that is used solely by the club (eg. Port Adelaide, Carlton, etc.) they were about to be deleted if I didn't change them. Port Adelaide's was the first that was brought to my attention and was changed by someone else. I have bought all others into line with it, despite the fact that obviously Adelaide, Hawthorn, etc are just coloured stripes. Its just easier having them all the same, and I think its more important that they can be used on AFL related pages rather than user-pages.
Also, just incase you were wondering I had to make a dodgy representation of Carlton's CFC monogram because their new logo is basically the monogram and nothing else, so my design practically WAS the logo. Sucks, but not much I can do. I think everything is fine the way it is. Cheers, Seth Cohen 13:28, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Copyrights on emblems of teams
[edit]Re this comment: Stripes in a particular arrangement and of a particular color can and are trademarked and/or copyrighted. For example, the Google logo is simply text with colors. This doesn't make it any less trademarkable. --Durin 17:44, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Greeting! By your own statement on the image's description page, this image is a derivative work, probably of http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/content/download/127/878/version/19/file/train_printable.pdf. As such, the original author retains rights. I've retagged the image as {{fairuse}} as copyrights are held by the original author, and you for the modification. We must respect the rights of the original author. However, the tag is obsolete and must be replaced with some other fair use tag at your discretion. Unfortunately, the image is subject to deletion seven days from now due to it being orphaned, meaning it is not used in any main article namespace pages. Fair use images are not permitted to be used outside of that area, and must be used in that area in order to remain at Wikipedia. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. --Durin 17:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I guess it will have to be deleted. It is my personal map to show progress I was making in updating stations around Melbourne. I guess I thought it would be allowed due to the fact all logos from the image were removed but I guess not. --Lakeyboy 00:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Dance-song-stub
[edit]Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.
In the case of your new stub type, it is already covered by existing stub types, it is not named according to stub naming guidelines (there is no such permanent category as Category:Dance songs), it does not the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any reason why this stub type should not be proposed for deletion at WP:SFD. And please, in future, propose new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 23:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi :)
[edit]Hi, good to see you back! Just thought I'd let you know I've finally mastered this SVG-making thing (after some trial and error) about three weeks ago, so if you ever need any alphanumeric or other road route signs done up for any articles you're working on, feel free to drop me a line. (More complex is possible - have a look at Image:Five ways intersection.svg as a demonstration of how widely SVG can be used) Like your work on the Melbourne articles!
