Your user page and username

Your user page currently redirects to the article The London Lifestyle Awards. Originally this redirect was created when you moved your user page into the main articlespace, but you seem to have deliberately re-added the redirect. For what purpose? Usually a user page is meant as a place to write something about ourselves as Wikipedia editors. For example, if you write about the LLAwards as part of your job, you could use the user page to make the relevant declaration required by the Terms of Use.

On an unrelated note, your username is a violation of the username policy because it appears promotional and looks like the name of an organization, implying shared use, which is not permitted. That's also why your renaming request was declined. You should make a new request for a username that represents you as an individual; otherwise this account may be blocked from editing. Hi - so how do I make a page titled 'The London Lifestyle Awards' which shows up when googled? rather than 'User;LLAwards' - do i have to set up a new account?

This is what I have been trying to do for weeks - my username request is what is getting rejected. I am happy with the page and the title, but it is my username request that is rejected - I want my username to be The London Lifestyle Awards. As currently to find our wikipedia page you have to google 'User:LLAwards' - and I want it to say 'The London Lifestyle Awards

That username would be a violation of Wikipedia's username policy, as is your current one. In fact, when you're talking about "our wikipedia page", you give the impression that this is a shared account, something explicitly not permitted. Wikipedia accounts are for individuals, not for companies or organizations, and the username must reflect that. Only one person may ever have access to an account.
Regarding the Google issue, that's not something Wikipedia can do anything about. Google will update its search index in due time. Huon (talk) 11:42, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is my account - I am just confused. I don't understand why pages like the BAFTAs and so forth are allowed a page? This Awards ceremony has been going on for 5 years, yet if you want to find this wikipedia page all that shows up is 'User:LLA' despite my requests for it to say 'The London Lifestyle Awards'. Literally all I want to happen is that, when an individual googles the awards - it shows up as 'The London Lifestyle Awards' rather than having to google 'User:LLA'. Is this possible or should I start again with a new account/username? Thanks for help

Once again, there are two different things: User accounts and encyclopedia articles. The encyclopedia article The London Lifestyle Awards exists. You can type "The London Lifestyle Awards" into Wikipedia's search box and will come up with the article. Google may be a little slow in indexing that article, but there's nothing Wikipedia can do about that. If you have an issue with Google search results, contact Google.
On the other hand, User:LLAwards is your user account. You have named yourself, as an editor, after the award, and if you ever edit any other topic, say our BAFTA article, those edits would be credited to "User:LLAwards". That username, however, is unduly promotional. Furthermore, it gives the impression that it's not an individual account, but a role account for the representative of the London Lifestyle Awards, used by whoever may occupy that role at any given moment. Thus it's in violation of Wikipedia's username policy and should be changed. If you want the username to be affiliated with the events, something like "User:John Doe at LLAwards" would be acceptable. Changing the username will have no impact on the encyclopedia article, which is entirely unrelated. If no change to an acceptable username is requested, this account may be blocked from editing (which, again, would not impact the encyclopedia article, except insofar as you would no longer be able to edit it). Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
