Thank you for your correction. I was reading through it a little too fast, and I could not comprehend it at that speed. Therefore, now, after I looked it over i saw where I erred. Thank you for your constructive critisism. Alvinrune 10:16, June 18, 2005 (EST)
Category economics game theory
[edit]Hi, I readily acknowledge my ignorance of the subject and accept direction you wish to give me. A number of articles are categorized in both "Economics" and "Game theory", but a number of other articles are just in "Game theory." Do you know whether it would make sense for me to take those that are in both categories out of the main "Economics" category? I will undo the "Economics game theory" if that's best. Thanks. Maurreen 18:17, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Maurreen - Good you noticed that! I think probably the appropriate action would just be to remove the economics category from those pages and leave the game theory one. The reason I'm worried is that game theory is highly interdisciplinary (involving sociology, economics, biology, political science, and philosophy) and so I wouldn't want to mislead people by making a special category "economics game theory". Thanks for your quick response, and I'll try to keep my eye out for those duplicate categories! best, --Kzollman 18:21, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
Game theory wikiproject
[edit]You could certainly count me in. I have created and contributed to many game theory articles - it's probably the area to which I have contributed the most. I don't know anybody else who would be interested, except perhaps bluemoose. I don't know if you can acquire the 5-10 wikipedians recommended. Also, I have little time at the moment to spare for Wikipedia and my contributions tend to be infrequent flurries of activity rather than steady flows. Nonetheless, I'm certainly interested. Treborbassett 16:37, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
- Yes a game theory project would be nice, possibly a better idea may be to make an Economics wikiproject which encapsulates game theory (which we amazingly dont have in the economics and business section of projects! ), because a project just for game theory may be a bit specific to gain any popularity. User:Wragge will no doubt be interested. Bluemoose 11:17, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
- I could start it off etc, you could just add your bit to the subsection of gametheory, but I wouldnt really know what other issues to deal with, I havent been too busy in the economics section recently, I guess things like categorisation and expanding all those stubs need to be dealt with. How do you think Game theory would benefit, just out of interest? One thing i can think of is if we copyed the idea of my other pet; Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles, and got a good economics/game theory encyclopedia/dictionary and make sure we cover everything it does. Bluemoose 23:17, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
- OK, I'll start it off tomorrow (Wikipedia:WikiProject Economics), standardisation of notation etc. over all economics articles is a great idea. First I've got to sleep, its 1:40am here. thanks Bluemoose 00:38, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- Just noticed Wikipedia:The Business and Economics Forum and Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Business and Economics, do you think a project would duplicate these? Bluemoose 19:30, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah thats probably a good idea, count me in on what ever you decide. Bluemoose 21:42, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- Looks like a good idea. I'm tempted to volunteer (there are a few game theory pages I wish I had time to have a go at) but I expect to be pretty heavily time-invested in other areas over the next month or so. Good intentions, bad habits. I have a grad student who is starting up on a game theory thesis project next month. I was considering assigning him some pages to get him up to speed, but I'm not convinced this is the best thing to do. Pete.Hurd 18:35, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
I note that you've added winning strategy to this project. I had thought of that article as being mainly about determinacy (that is, infinite games). There are certainly some points of commonality with the more practically-oriented game theory used by economists, but I wonder if they're enough.
On the other hand there's a lot of work to do on the determinacy-style games (see Talk:Winning_strategy#Organizational_questions), and help would be welcome.
So I see several possibilities:
- Try to to deal with both sorts of games in a common framework. This has the advantage of avoiding duplication of articles. But I think there could be some awkwardness too.
- Start another Wikipedia:WikiProject Determinacy, and try to avoid getting in each other's way. But would there enough people to work on it?
- I could write a Game (set theory) article, and point everything from the determinacy stuff there. Probably there should be a dab on winning strategy.
What do you think?
I've written (partially) a new determinacy article, and the notion of winning strategy I'm interested in is reproduced there. So you might want to reclaim winning strategy for game theorists. I put a dab notice at the top. --Trovatore 06:02, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Game Theory
[edit]I'm not really an expert, I'm afraid - I've only a casual interest. Evercat 12:32, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Well, I'm mainly a functional analyst/quantum information theorist, but I do have a strong interest in mathematical economics and did have at one point an interest in getting some mathematically accurate pages on fixed point theory/convexity theory etc, although that subsided somewhat since my wiki energy was largely sapped by a controversy over an article Bell's theorem. I'm not sure I'll be much help.--CSTAR 03:59, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
- Congratulations, you just inspired me to write Shizuo Kakutani! On a more general note, I'm not an expert but I'll help where I can. I took several game theory courses, and I own some relevant textbooks including Fudenberg and Tirole. Isomorphic 02:35, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
- Well, admittedly I don't know anything about him that wasn't in the New York Times obituary. I keep intending to write an article on the fixed-point theorem, which I saw as part of the formal proof for the existance of the Nash equilibria. Every time I sit down to write it, I end up sidetracked into writing a different article. First it was his daughter Michiko, and this time the man himself. I guess third time will be the charm. Isomorphic 02:45, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

Hello,
Since you contributed in the past to the publications’ lists, I thought that you might be interested in this new project. I’ll be glad if you will continue contributing. Thanks,APH 11:21, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Kevin,
- Thanks for joining the project. Can you verify that the subcategories in the philosophy list are suitable? I would like to make sure that no important sub field was left out and that there are no unrelated entries. I assume that it should ok after all the work done there but it worth checking. Do you think that we should allow several hierarchies – by are, country, topic, etc? Thanks, APH 05:41, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

- The dab option on popups works great! And it will attempt to repair multiple links per page--just have to double check each one in the preview. With the tool, I get to spend more time double checking the apropriateness of the re-direct than typing. Very very useful!! >: Roby Wayne Talk • Hist 17:46, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Alakon's edits
[edit]Have you ever heard of this book User:Alakon listed, or it's author? A quick look at some of this user's edits [1] makes me wonder if all his substantive edits are hoaxes. Pete.Hurd 22:19, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
- I've been looking for tools for tracking IPs used by editors (stemming from suspicions that User:Fn is a User:Alakon sockpuppet), do you know of any? Pete.Hurd 02:54, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- OK, just wondering if I couldn't find such a tool in user space. The WP:Sock puppet page is really vague about when it's appropriate to tag someone as a suspected sockpuppet, I'm not willing to do it on gut feeling alone. It's small potatoes, not worth waking up the grown-ups at WP:ANI over either... Cheers, Pete.Hurd 05:03, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Judgment-proof
[edit]Hello:
FYI, judgment-proof is a slang term used among lawyers for a defendant with no substantial financial assets (for example, a typical welfare recipient who lives in public housing and takes the bus and only owns a few bits of used furniture and clothes). Therefore, that person cannot be rationally deterred from committing torts, since the person literally has nothing to lose but his liberty, and that can be taken away only when the state proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant has committed a crime.
In case you're wondering why injunctions and contempt wouldn't work as an alternative (a classic question in Remedies classes) it's because no court will issue a general order to obey the law (since that is presumed to be required of all members of society anyway). Injunctions (and the use of contempt citations and jail time to enforce them) are usually granted only when it is explicitly clear that the defendant will commit a particular tort in the near future unless stopped (such as abusing one's spouse or children for the fourth or fifth time in a week).
I hope this helps. --Coolcaesar 04:13, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, I prefer that you not use the above text for an article, because (1) it reflects my own personal bias too much and (2) there are a lot of subtle issues that I left out. Also, in case you're unaware, the American English spelling is "judgment." The British English spelling is "judgement." --Coolcaesar 21:04, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

complaint
[edit]I have a complaint to make. I've submitted several relevant links for UCI students. One, being UCI Housing and the other Off-Campus Housing (presently removed) which points to a community website that is completely free and has been mentioned by CSUF's newspaper as a great resource for students. Furthermore, I have read your spam page on the guidelines of posting links, and I feel that due to the fact that my link points to relevant information and has non-promotional language, I should be allowed to post my link. Many people are thankful that I have created iHomeConnect as way of helping people find housing. When people like you remove quality links like mine, you are restricting the exchange of information and taking the power out of the hands of the people and giving more power to corporate entities. Please stop removing my link, or I will seek legal action against those who continue to deprive Wikipedia users of relevant information by removing my contributions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.24.130.247 (talk • contribs)

It's okay, I seem to feel patronized fairly frequently. Glad to be able to provide the citation - that one turned out to be an easy one. There's some articles I've done where it would be harder to find the citation. john k 05:18, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Bjerknes (lunar crater)
[edit]- Ages ago, you wrote Bjerknes (lunar crater). I've been doing the ol' random page browsing and I stumbled on it. You don't happen to remember your references for it, do you? If you do, it would be great if you could add them. Thanks! --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 18:22, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
The table to the upper right of the Bjerknes (lunar crater) has a row labelled "References". That link points to the page containing the references (and external links) I used. I didn't see the point of listing the same dozen or so references on all 1600+ crater pages. Is that not satisfactory? If not then I guess I'll have to build a reference template for all the lunar crater pages. Thanks. — RJH 18:46, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- I've built a template that I'll start using, which should address all these issues. It'll take me a few weeks to finish adding it to all the crater pages. — RJH 19:00, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

- Hey Kevin, I was just admiring the most recent anon edits to Game theory, and thought it might be time to take a first peek to compare the number of constructive/non-constructive anon/non-anon edits to articles, Counting from the time since they had maintained templates put on them, versus the equivalent time before the templates... It's probably too early for the data to be convincing, but my gut feeling is that there's no dissuasion effect. -Cheers, Pete.Hurd 16:56, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry, I meant that I don't think anon IPs (or anyone else) would be dissuaded from making useful contributions by the template. This would be evidence against the 'ownership' argument I hear that suggests that the template acts as some sort of territorial urine tag which will act to dissuade constructive editorial contributions.
