I like the welcome message, and I know you've been trying to add the signature to it automatically. Best I can tell, you cannot do it unless you do something like {{User:Kukini/Welcome|~~~~}}, which seems acceptable. I'll look into how to do this if you'd like. You'll probably want to leave off the sig if none was passed. Ash Lux 15:17, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I got that working for you. The sig will simply not be there if you leave it off. Ash Lux 16:42, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Note: it was working with the signature this morning and then it stopped. I am not sure who broke what but I'd recommend reverting to the last edit(s).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 01:03, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm. It seems to be working just fine for me. The usage on the page was wrong, I kind of forgot the User namespace. If you copy and pasted the usage on the template page, that could have been the problem. You should use {{subst:User:Kukini/Welcome|~~~~}} instead of {{subst:Kukini/Welcome|~~~~}}. If that wasn't it, then it could have been the MediaWiki extension m:ParserFunctions was messed up briefly. What was the problem you encountered? Ash Lux 16:47, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- It would be working if Kukini would stop reverting you :p Kukini, as far as I tell Ash version is more generic and works.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 02:19, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- If you want, you can use {{User:Ashlux/Welcome}}. You will not need to pass a sig parameter with this one. -- Ash Lux (talk | contribs) 22:56, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Problem fixed
Hey Kukini, 'course I remember you! :D I just used <div> to replace the <h3> tags around "Current discussion", which were creating an extra "edit" section (so that was my fault, probably). Hope this solves it. Cheers, Sango123 (e) 04:32, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Usually when I try to block people on there, by the time I've looked at their edits and their talk page, someone else has already blocked them :) I guess this time was an exception. Thanks for reporting. Mak (talk) 05:00, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Edit help
Hi Kukini, I really need some help in composing an edit summary, since this is not the first time I fail in doing that... Any suggestions?
Why did you?
Okay why was the text from Kayte Christensen removed. I can understand you wanting to keep the article clean but come on, you never eevn stated a reason why you removed it. There was enough evidance to back this up[1].

What do I do with this?
I came across this page Downtown business magnet high school and don't know what to do with it...I figure it needs to be deleted, but I don't know how and if there's some policy I have to go through to have it done. I googled the school name, and it didn't even come up with an official site, so I doubt its worth fixing into a decent article. If you could let me know how to deal with this, or do it yourself, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks! Carl.bunderson 21:47, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Bloody AOL... ;) Seriously, there's not much you can do except hand out a 15-minute block to stop persistent vandalism from an AOL IP. The only exception is an AOL proxy, and I've hit a couple of those, blocking each for 24h. Have fun! ;) RadioKirk talk to me 04:05, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Your welcome
Trying some newpage patroling--Rayc 23:08, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
for the "Welcomer's Barnstar"! I see you do a lot of welcoming also. If you don't mind a bit of technical advice:
The {{PAGENAME}} variable, which you are using, can produce unwanted results. First, the welcomed user will see the {{PAGENAME}}
code if he clicks "edit." And second, if the welcome is archived, the {{PAGENAME}} variable won't make sense, since it will change to reflect the name of the archived page.
For these reasons, you may wish to consider subst:ing the PAGENAME, by writing {{<includeonly>SUBST:</includeonly>PAGENAME}}
instead of {{PAGENAME}}
. The template will then run the SUBST: when you substitute the template (caution: this only works for subst:ed templates), producing a static PAGENAME variable. See {{subst:User:Iamthejabberwock/Welcome}} or {{subst:User:ABCD/welcome}} for examples.
Also, a question: where do you get your edit summary request ([2])? Is it a template or copy-and-paste code? I like it better than {{Editsummary}} or {{Summary}}.
If you want to make the change to your welcome but are confused by this complicated explanation I'd be happy to do it. Thanks again! Λυδαcιτγ(TheJabberwock) 23:25, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
about Steve Scalise
Hey, thanks, but I don't know when I'll get around to it. In fact, I've never heard of him before, but maybe it's time to figure out something about him. The best part of editing WP, for me at least, is that it forces me to learn some things I'd never find out about. Also, I'm noticing from your comment that I've not updated my user page in quite a while, as Lousiana politicians were of interest to me about 10,000 edits ago! :) Although I'm sure I'll be back on them again, I tend to change interests on WP all the time. But maybe I should change my user page to reflect on some current interests? ;P Best, --Deville (Talk) 02:53, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
My reverts
On the bballer, I inquired from Agc7528, an experienced and proven good-faith user, as to all ten of his blankings in one go [3]. On Meir Kahane, user erroneously duplicated identical info about the murder of his son on articles for both the father and the son, Binyamin Ze'ev Kahane. I reverted the father, but didn't deem it necessary to notify,b/c not vandalism, and the info was retained in any event. I always warn. Thanks for paying close attention, though, and for the compliment. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 04:57, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

name change
Thank you for your message of welcome on my user page. When I registered I did so as Adambrink. I would like to change it to reflect my name properly: Adam Brink. Can this be done? --Adambrink 04:50, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. I'll leave it be: no point in being vain. On a broader point, I have printed out and yesterday read with some care the various guides to style and etiquette that I could find. 'Boldness tempered with civility' seems to be the key. I'll keep your contact details and contact you should I have any questions. Enjoy your day! Adam Brink aka --Adambrink 05:03, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Seeking Help and Guidance
Dear Kukini,
I need to know (a) if it is possible to do something; and (b) if it is, in fact, possible, how I might go about coding in oorder to allow it to happen.
I am presently engaged in completing a rather long task connected with the topic of "placebo".
At this stage, I have submitted Placebo (origins of technical term) and have discovered that -- no doubt due to the amount of coding generated by the cross-referncing, etc. (because the word count is only something like 4,000 words) -- I am being given warnings that the article is too long and that I should think about its length.
In order to reduce its length, I have taken out an entire section, and placed it in the Wiki as a new and separate section entitled Uses of the term placebo. (I had a far more complex title, but some kind helper changed it into this far better title.)
This was done essentially for 4 reasons: (a) if you knew about those usages, you would be bored reading about them, (b) once you have read them, you would not need to read them again, (c) each point needs to be made at some length in order for somebody who is not initially aware of the terminological mess to understand what is going on, and (d) it also allows room for other examples to be added.
So much for the preamble; now to my question.
(1) Towards the end of the article Placebo (origins of technical term) I decided that I wanted to refer readers to a specific section of the Nocebo article that already contains a discussion that equally involves the terms placebo and nocebo. And, on the basis that such a discussion would never exist in the absence of the term nocebo, I believe that the discussion is better located in the nocebo article.
(2) I went through all the information that I could find on the matter; and, on the basis of what I found, I coded it as follows:
- ==Ambiguity of medical usage==
And, when this was clicked on, you were immediately taken to the appropriate part of the Nocebo article.
(The same thing also applies to the next piece, referring readers to another section on the ambiguity of anthropological usage -- which, for similar reasons, I also believe must remain under nocebo).
(3) The article Placebo (origins of technical term) contains a sub-section "Diverse applications of the term Placebo".
(4) The text that was taken from the entire article Placebo (origins of technical term) and expanded into what is now Uses of the term placebo was actually taken from the sub-section "Diverse applications of the term Placebo".
(5) I want to make a similar redirection to readers -- appearing at the head of the Uses of the term placebo -- and allow them to go directly to the "Diverse applications of the term Placebo" sub-section of the Placebo (origins of technical term) article.
(6) I have entered what I believe is the correct coding (based on the fact that it seems to match the other successful coding 100%) as follows:
(7) It doesn't work. I simply sends the reader to the head of the page, rather than to the appropriate sub-section.
(8) Have I coded it wrongly -- and, therefore, was my earlier success just "by chance"? -- or is it that the presence of the bracket/parenthesis ")" at the end of the title and before the hash "#" somehow complicated things?
I hope that you can guide me once moreLindsay658 06:58, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for removing the piece without telling you that I had solved the problem. Thanks again Lindsay658 04:07, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
