Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mennan yapo2.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Mennan yapo.jpg. The copy called Image:Mennan yapo.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 17:00, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar
To Kudret abi, for a simple but very clever improvement to the Infobox actor template. Now the lists of awards, which are often quite lengthy, can be displayed easily when required, or neatly hidden away when not needed. Well done! Rossrs 13:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for the barnstar, but it's really you who deserves all the credit (and I see Rossrs beat me too it!) for doing all the work. I'm just a guy with an opinion, a keyboard, and an internet connection. :) PC78 20:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Your violation of WP:FU on Mariska Hargitay has been reverted. We are not permitted to use fair-use images to depict living people. --Yamla 14:19, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, fair-use images may not be used to depict living people. Please reread WP:FU. --Yamla 16:25, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not done with the image and its explanation yet, please be patient. Thanks -- Kudret abi 16:28, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Make sure you read WP:FU before making any further edits to the image. --Yamla 16:29, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the help Yamla, I will make a better image showing not just her, but her acting in Law and Order and put it in the body of the text instead of the infobox. But I would appreciate it you please do not cross out my text and just add your comments below. Best, -- Kudret abi 16:33, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:HargitayInLawAndOrder02.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 14:20, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:HargitayInLawAndOrder02.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:HargitayInLawAndOrder02.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Yamla 14:20, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, sorry about the vandalism on Asteroid but our internet was unsecured for a few days and people accessed it. I hope this doesn't count towards a record or something.

AIV

[edit]

Thank you for making a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. Jmlk17 06:30, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea I've seen what you've done now it keeps silver by death date and blocks out colors other than silver or gold. Great!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:24, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes its good. However I think I am the only one who prefers the silver to the yellow!!! Is there any way we could alter the yellow so it is the gold as it is intended to be? I'm certain a gold frame rather than yellow would look more appealing. What do you think? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 18:36, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For instance #CFB53B ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 18:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly. For classic actors like Clark Gable and Greta Garbo etc I think the silver looks terrific. I'm very glad you have the intelligence to fromat it so people don't come up with all different colrs -I've seen green and pink!!! Its not of prime importance to wikipedia but if you browsw through many articles you do notice color and I want them to look as good as possible. You are welcome to join WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers which I set up. We need as many good users as possible. Where should I propose the gold color? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" If there is anyody else you know who would be interested by all means let them know and invite them to join. WP Films started quite slowly and we now have over 300 members. I'm kind of bogged down with work to worry too muvh of color yet!!! I'm compiling an entire List of American films amidst all my work on Taiwan, Tibet, Cambodia etc (I'm a bit obsessed with the far east and films!!). Hopefully it will be completed with all the details and even plot summaries of 110 years of US movies!!! -Ambitious isn't it!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" I've been advised that opening a WP:RFC might be a good idea. I'm going to bed, and will look at that when I've calmed down. If I do, I hope I can get your support, or if you chose to open one you can count on mine - just let me know. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 09:49, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, looks lke he got a 24 hour block. I'm going to leave it for now, but if he exhibits such annoying behaviour even once after getting unblocked, I'm going to WP:RFC him. It's thoroughly annoying that he refuses to provide edit summaries, blanks his talk page, and doesn't seem to question why people are reverting his edits.— Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 16:00, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, having looked at the WP:RFC guidelines, it seems the right thing to do is keep an eye on him, and if he continues to make inappropriate edits, we shoudl continue to try and educate him via his talk page. Obviously if he's breaking things repeatedly (like templates!) that may need intervention, but hopefully it won't come to that. Maybe his edit block will have given him something to think about.— Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 23:22, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An error in your AWB infobox fix

[edit]

You need to fix your AWB box switch. It's leaving an improperly formatted musician infobox that's missing several key fields including the notable instruments field. Also... it's carrying over the audio sample field from the guitarist box which is, unfortunately, not a part of the musician box. Thought you'd like to know before any more botched AWB switches take place. 156.34.221.221 03:16, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, thanks a lot for letting me know, the previews looked OK, but I will check again, can you please point me to a specific example? Kudret abi 03:19, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I checked again and all seems to be fine except the audio sample field, which I will remove. I am not sure what you meant by improper formatting, but I am guessing you meant some of the parameters appearing on the same line, so I will address that. Also the notable instruments field is an optional field and it will only appear if it was specified as notable guitars in the original guitarist infobox. I hope this addresses your questions, if not please let me know. Best, Kudret abi 03:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My quick observation was that your autofix is going "field-for-field" which... technically isn't correct as the 2 boxes have their field in a different order from one another. The final result ends up still having an 'audio sample' field at the bottom. The musician infobox should have the notable instrument field at the bottom. The background field end up clunked in at the top of the box. The landscape field as well as the occupation and instrument fields don't end up in the final product. I don't see the birth name field either. Hope that helps. 156.34.221.221 03:31, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is true, the orders could be different but this does not make a difference as the parameters are assigned by their names. This is also the way I would do it if I was not using AWB. Also please note that the landscape and notable instruments fields are optional. The former, I fix by hand if the picture is landscape and omit if it is not. The latter will only appear if there is a notable guitars field in the original guitarist template, and will be omitted otherwise. I do not see a problem with this as these parameters and optional and will simply be ignored anyway if they are empty. The birth name field was also not part of the guitarist template so that information can not be found in any of these templates so there is no need to include that parameter in the new infobox. Our goal here was to get rid of all transclusions of the depreciated template without breaking the articles, so that we can delete them or redirect them to musical artist. I hope that this explanation is sufficient, but please let me know if you have any more comments or suggestions. Best, Kudret abi 03:48, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jake Gyllenhaal + {{Infobox actor}}

[edit]

Hey, nice to hear from you! Are you on an infobox run? I still haven't had time to learn more about building infoboxes. As for Jake Gyllenhaal, I've added some things and I've guarded against vandalism, but I haven't done all that much there. Today was crazy though -- article of the day status brought all the crazies and homophobes out of the woodwork vandalizing every few minutes. I haven't been around Wiki as an editor for all that long, and I've never seen anything like it. Plus a somewhat silly argument about calling Gyllenhaal's Brokeback Mountain character a "gay cowboy." Oh dear. In happier news, I'm very proud to have brought an article to GA status for the first time today: Cillian Murphy. Very satisfying, if overly obsessive. --Melty girl 03:02, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ataturk

[edit]

please explain to me how quoting (lit.) from a historical source is vandalism. i can provide you with numerous references from the time magazine, from biographies about ataturk and even encyclopedias which detail the crimes committed by this man. it is shameful and cowardly to hide the truth; if you think i'm making all of this up then i would like to challenge you to prove that the facts quoted are wrong; i don't deny the fact that he fought along side many turkish soldiers to save turkey from enemy hands however the truth about him must be revealed so as to stop people deifying him and attributing turkey's success solely to him. wikipedia is a source of facts not half truths or fantasies.. i don't believe what i'm doing is wrong, if you disagree let's open it up for discussion amongst the wikipedia community.

p.s. it is also childish for you to threaten me; a mature response would have been for you contact me and ask me for an explanation.

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, you will be blocked from editing. Kudret abi 17:25, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:PacinoIn88Minutes01.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:PacinoIn88Minutes01.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hey, if you have time to return to the review, I'd really appreciate it. I'm experiencing the strange circumstance of a reviewer saying that the article needs extensive copyediting, and then this reviewer actually went in and made some edits. As far as I can see, the edits were actually unnecessary, and in some cases weaken the article factually or in terms of the prose. I'm kind of confused as to what to do -- not sure if you can do anything, but if you have suggestions, or would care to jump in and comment on the reviewer's edits, that would be great! Let me know if you have any advice. Thanks, Melty girl 17:57, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Weird about TW, eh? I've never checked out those scripts myself. Anyway, thanks for trying to help out... I'm running around a little bit now, but I'm going to work some on the article and the review page later. In the meantime, I'll just say that I'm not sure whether to still try and meet the needs of the early reviewer who was so adamant about citations in the lead, because it seems like he's done an oppose-and-run. I asked him a long time ago to return to the review page to see my response to his review, as per the FA recommendations, but he hasn't. Meanwhile, no one else wants citations in the lead. What do you think? Also, I'm at a loss for what to do about the new reviewer who seems to have a desire to rewrite the article despite an absence of real copyediting problems. As a Wikipedian, I appreciate the reviewer's willingness to enter into the process, and I'm happy to engage with anyone who has insightful, valid points to make -- and I have always done so. But I feel at a loss for what to do when someone, in my view, worsens the quality of the writing while telling me (incorrectly) that the writing badly needed improvement. So your honest assessment regarding these latest changes would be very, very welcome. --Melty girl 18:59, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your wise comments and kind words. Today I have to tackle the issue of the weak edits. Sigh. Seems like it could be a losing proposition in terms of FA, but ultimately, I'd rather the article be the best it could be, even if it is unable to obtain an official top rating right now, due to luck of the draw in terms of reviewers. I think your comment about the blue eyes phrase is insightful, and it is certainly interesting to me that a second reviewer has misquoted the phrase. This phenomenon is one of the things about WP that I find disappointing. Even as we live in a world that puts a huge premium on good looks for performers, Wikipedians are uncomfortable acknowledging this truly verifiable reality of what so many performers are famous for. It's almost a kind of sexual repression, and definitely a denial of how the entertainment business operates in a looks-conscious society. And hey, it's not like the lead says "Cillian Murphy is a gorgeous actor who is famous because he's the sexiest actor working today," or something idiotic like that! It just says that he often noted by the press for his eyes -- and that's amply discussed below in the article and is verifiable just from reading the titles of the articles in the references section. Anyway, sorry to vent. It's a complicated issue, more complicated than I'm managing to get across here. I have many problems with the way the world works and which performers get the jobs... but that's another story... Thanks for your help! --Melty girl 22:08, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your message! I guess we are both tired these days. I can't quite seem to kick my cold -- the fever part is exhausting. But I think it's turning around. Are you an insomniac? Since I have quit coffee, I have fewer problems on that score. Anyway, yes, we are in agreement about the looks topic. It seems ludicrous that so many Wikipedians always remove or reject language about a performer's looks, no matter how it's expressed. It's an overly simplistic way to read articles and it leaves Wikipedia inaccurate and denying reality. Aren't we supposed to report what a person is best known for as per WP:MOSBIO?
What you describe about academia is very interesting. I witnessed a similar thing when I was at art school, though luckily, not in the music department where I was -- everyone was very supportive there, and music is mostly a collaborative art form. I saw it in the art school. My friends there were often very frustrated with the critique process, because people were so often reflexively negative. That's sad about some of the "big guys in the field" that you describe. All of these different types of review processes can be so challenging, because to varying degrees, you're putting your ego out there for anyone to stomp on. I'm taking a break from music for many life reasons, but that's one of the things that does get tiring about doing original music that's not pop. Sometimes I think you have to be an egomaniac to get through it. And the FAC process... it's democratic, but it seems like a real crap shoot as to the particular small group of people who actually participate in a given review. My two objectors seem to be a person who prides himself on his participation in assessment activities but quickly dismissed the article without a thorough read because of the aforementioned looks fallacy, and a seemingly well-intentioned reviewer who's not as well-informed about grammar and effective writing as she thinks she is but wants to put her stamp on the article. But what can you do? I'd rather the article be a strong resource on the topic than an FA of reduced quality, and at this point, since I've done such an extensive "literature review," I know it is the most comprehensive resource on Cillian Murphy of short length that exists online, and that's what Wikipedia is for. Now I suppose I could have played the game with the latter reviewer, and let her do whatever she wanted to the article, then changed it back after FA was awarded, but that seemed unprincipled to me -- and also, something stubborn in me felt that she should know for future FACs that her copyediting is not infallible. I don't know if she's even going to come back to finish the discussion of those edits... Oh well -- I knew beforehand that I was taking a risk in rejecting her take on the prose. Raul will probably close the review tomorrow. I just wish the subject matter could have attracted more reviewers.
Anyway, it's very nice to vent with you! I hope you get some rest and relaxation soon. --Melty girl 16:18, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there -- haven't seen you around much lately, so I hope all is well. Just wanted to let you know that I've renominated Cillian Murphy for FA -- it got closed with 8 supports and 3 opposes, and one of the latter has encouraged me to renominate. Non-free image in infobox

[edit]

I noticed that you removed a non-free image from an infobox citing WP:FU.[3] I took at quick look at WP:FU and couldn't find anything about it there and was wondering if it's maybe listed in some other location? Or maybe you could direct me to the relevant passage in WP:FU? Thanks! –panda (talk) 22:24, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking for this recently too, but couldn't find it. Everyone always refers to this in regard to actor article infoboxes. --Melty girl (talk) 22:39, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Panda and Melty girl, I think I meant to say WP:FUC; it is the first criteria listed there. To be honest, I also learned this rule when I was warned about adding a FU image to an infobox (see User_talk:Kudret_abi#Replaceable_fair_use_Image:HargitayInLawAndOrder02.jpg). --Kudret abiTalk 04:16, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I actually don't see anything in WP:FUC either that states that they shouldn't be used in infoboxes. Would you mind quoting the relevant text? (I'm watching your talk page so you can reply here.) –panda (talk) 04:45, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"No free equivalent. Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." I think this is what people usually refer to when saying FU images are not acceptable in infoboxes. I believe the argument is that the aim of an image in Fator's infobox is to depict what he looks like, and since he is a living person, a free equivalent can be generated because someone could take a picture of Fator and release it under a free license. I hope this helps. --Kudret abiTalk 05:49, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Makes a lot of sense, thanks. I was looking for something unnecessarily specific. --Melty girl (talk) 16:30, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Hansen02.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. hbdragon88 (talk) 22:48, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sebo kucuk01.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sebo kucuk01.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:06, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:X8/doc

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:X8/doc requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:05, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Mennan k.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Mennan k.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. For the Election committee, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:30, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The file File:Freedom jam.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free image of a non-Wikipedia notable band being used in a decorative manner in Terry Fator#Band membership. This photo is not itself the subject of any sourced critical commentary in the article and the reader is not required to see an "band photo" to understand that Fator was a member of a band during the 1980s, so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking. The image would probably be OK for identification purposes in a stand-alone article about the band itself, but it's non-free use in the Fator article is not really justified.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:45, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
