How does this look?

I am going by the templates everyone else is making. Are we using the same names as the previous templates? - NeutralHomerTalk 04:29, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is very hard to tell the best way to approach this. Tread lightly is what I usually say in situations like this. The absence of being able to use Nielsen market names and areas seems to have turned people to using MSAs. This nice thing is that this will cover 75% (personal estimate) of the stations and keep them in the same boxes that they were before ... if an only if the location of the stations is determined by their headquarters and not their main transmitter location(s). What is nice about the MSAs is that they have region names. I look at Cleveland and see that it falls into the Greater Cleveland MSA, which is what the area is called and is nearly identical to the Nielsen DMA.

What I would call all these new boxes is simple. I would use the official MSA name, not the nickname. So for Cleveland's new box I would give it the name Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor, OH TV. Very clunky, but you avoid this Nielsen copyright BS and stick to official designated areas.

If there happen to be stations that are headquartered outside the MSA then it is best to create an MSA box for that station. Then you can have small links like you have done to all the MSA station boxes in that state. Hope that helps. Krocheck (talk) 05:53, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, do not use 'area' in the header of the box ... actually put MSA in it's place. Use the MSA page title, so if I were building Cleveland's new box, which I should at this point I guess since I've been spelling it out :), would be "Broadcast television in the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor, OH MSA". When creating the box, like I said above, replace MSA with TV in the article's title and you're done. No mention of "within XX miles", none of that. Stick solely to MSAs and those alone.
