Commercial content
[edit]Please stop inserting commercial content as you have done in the mousetrap article. The trap you mention might be worthy of mention but all the commercial content is not. Bob98133 (talk) 12:14, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, please help
[edit]Hi Bob, Thanks for your feedback on the "No View No Touch" mousetrap entry. I edited the copy to eliminate any commercial language. Would you mind reviewing it? Also, is it ok to include the name of the brands that sell the product or is that still too commercially? Thanks for your help, I apprecaite it as this is my first entry. (Also, I apologize for editing both your talk and mine.) Thanks, Kristamrogers (talk) 00:08, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- I don't see your new version up yet. Go ahead and post it and I'll take a look later. Generally, you don't want to put in specific companies unless it is unique to that company; the same with distributors or places you could buy the trap. It would be OK to say something like "the trap is only sold aonline" but not OK to say "sold at Home Depot". It can be a fine line, perhaps there is a Wiki rule or guideline, but in general you want to avoid language that sounds like an ad, or links that simply go to a commercial venture. A lot of companies try to put up info about themselves to boost sales or whatever, particularly from new accounts, so that kind of thing gets reverted right away. You might want to put something on your user page so that you user name does not show as a red link, since a red-link user usually indicates a new user. Hope that helps. Thank you so much for your help. I just want to name the name the product is sold under in the US and Australia (they are the only ones that sell this kind of trap, so it is unique to this specific trap.) I really appreciate your clarification and the note about the red name. I will work on that. I'll post the new text first thing in the morning.
- I've edited the disposable mousetrap section in the moustrap article to remove the commercial content. I know you've tried a couple of versions, but, for example, your version seems to indicate that only one company, inventor, manufacturer make disposable moustraps. In fact, a google search revealed many different types of disposable traps and the one you mention was no where near the top of the list. It seems to me that the important aspect of this type of trap is that it is disposable and that the dead mouse not be available for viewing, but that the traps work like any of the other traps also listed. Who makes the trap, with two links to their website, is not that interesting or encyclopediac and seems more commercial in nature, particularly when isolated from the many other types and brands of disposable traps.
