[edit]Hi, I reverted your edit to Upanishads as they removed the well-sourced (and "standard") interpretation and added your own, without any references. Please see Wikipedia's policies on verifiability and reliable sources and undue weight. If you have sources for your definition, feel free to add them to the article in addition to the existing one. Regards, Shreevatsa (talk) 06:50, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
The references are not in a written form. Guru Sri Bannanje Govindacharya is an exponent in etymology of Sanskrit words. His research on linguistic and etymology derived the meaning "Upa" as "to elevate" The idea of word meaning of "Upa" as "higher" rather than the most commonly used meaning "near" can be easily found by linguistic analysis. And also it gives a noble meaning to the word Upanishad. Rather than sitting near to Guru, "elevate the self towards Brahman" gives a more noble, beautiful meaning to word Upanishad.
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Upanishads. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. Abecedare (talk) 06:50, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- Could you please discuss the changes you wish to make to the Upanishads article on the article talk page ? Simply blanking sections without explanation and edit-warring is not really productive. Abecedare (talk) 06:59, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I have added a section called Etymology there. Please post your views there.
Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Abecedare (talk) 07:18, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
